kats_meow, I see two solutions for you. Option one: Do any of the walls butt up against the garage? If so, you could cut a pet door in the wall and put the cat box in an enclosure in the garage. We're facing the same issue as you - small laundry room with much demanded of it, plus we need room for a litter box for our big cat (14#). He really needs a larger box than he's currently using but we can't fit a larger size inside the sink cabinet. So I had this brain storm the other night. We're going to cut a hole in the laundry room/garage wall, through the side of the sink cabinet, to lead to an insulated enclosure in the garage with a door on the side so we can clean the cat litter. The hole will be about the size of a pet door (sans flap since it's leading to an insulated enclosure) and will be placed between the studs so we won't need to install a header. We talked about doing this with a standard pet door that would lead into a wired enclosure for him (he's an indoor cat) but he's getting old and I'm just not sure he's up to learning how to use a cat door at his age plus it will only get harder for him to open the flap as he ages. Anyhoo, this was our solution and maybe it will work for you. Option 2: If I'm calculating the size of your space correctly, you should have enough room next to a stacked W/D for the freezer and perhaps enough space left over to add a narrow broom cabinet. Then you can extend the sink cabinet counter to the wall, which would give you counter to fold clothes and a space underneath for the kitty box. Move the cabinet on the W/D side over to the sink side, up against the wall, so that its (I'm assuming) unfinished side is against the wall. Depending on the size of the cabinets, you may have a small gap between them to put a clothes rod to hang a few items up. Or maybe you can add shelving between the two cabinets.

Yes, that sounds good! Is there a wall 36" back and if so, what type of wall? If there's a wall, the plumber can put the washer outlet box recessed which includes drain and water valves in one. This is mine...See Link below... Depending on which w/d compact set and where the dryer vent comes out, you can tell the plumber exactly where to put the vent duct so it lines up. And an electrician can run the 240v for the dryer or if you have gas, run a gas line. And of course a 120v(regular) box. Best Compact? I spent about 2 years researching(mainly on this site!!) the best compact set(stacked ) and for me, I picked the Bosch Axxis set. I also looked at Asko and Meile. I also looked at the Compact LG set but they only offer a ventless dryer. Also looked at the Whirlpool Sport Duet. You can also get a one piece stacked unit. YOu may be able to get the larger size one piece... see how high they are. One thing you can do if you don't like the Axxis dryer: You can buy the Axxis washer and build a shelf and place any compact dryer on top. We are trying to think like the installer. We realized that our machines will have to be connected, leveled, and then pushed into a very tight space. So, we decided to: 1) max on insulation in floor and adjacent walls to try reduce vibration noise. 2) plumb the back and side walls according to where the machine outlets are (water, electricity, dryer vent). (Got a diagram of the back of the machines from the owner's manual) 3) install a Watts IntelliFlow (about $200) for leak detection 4) stub out the waste pipe already there for a pan because a delivery guy we consulted told us that they may not be willing to lift heavy machines over a lip, so we abandoned a built in, tiled pan. We would have liked to have a real floor drain but code requirements made this another $2000 worth of plumbing. 5) bought braided, steel hoses for extra measure. To each his own. = ) I much prefer having my machines stacked, which is good because in my tiny laundry room, floor space is at a premium. If I didn't stack my machines, I wouldn't have room to move the freezer from the garage into the house. That's a must for me because I'm so tired of hiking out to the garage to get things out of the freezer. The water hook up will stay where it currently is, which will put it behind the freezer, or more precisely freezers. We bought 2 counter height freezers that we'll stack (using a thick sheet of plywood above the bottom freezer to support the top freezer). This was the most cost effective way to get 10 cu ft of freezer space in 24" of width. $900 vs $5K. Yeah, that was a no brainer. If we need to pull the washer or dryer out, we can do that since we have enough aisle room between the 2 sides of our walk-through laundry room. We haven't needed to do that yet, even when the machines were serviced. The serviceman went through the front access panel at the base of each machine. Thanks for sharing your experience and advice.
