Sorry, can I bug you guys one more time on my granite choices?

I was convinced yesterday the "Colonial Cream" was the one.

I just looked a person's kitchen that had it and well, it was just too much gold. I do have the oak hardwood floors, and I think it will just be too matchy.

So-thinking about the Typhoon Bordeaux?

I agree that the Typhoon Bordeaux gives a better contrast, but it also has *way* more movement than your first choice. Are you good with that?

Hmmm....would prefer a little less movement, read it can be a PITA trying to do the template for an island. (to get the right colors/pattern etc).

Maybe I need to go out *again* & hit the granite yards again huh?
My problem is I tend to like the "more" whitish granites-like Crystal , or Kashmir White, which don't go at all with the cabinets I bought.

Hi, Again - First, I do like my KitchenAid dishwasher - especially the cool blue lights. It works well, even though I'm afraid to put in truly dirty dishes! I can't recall which model it is, but I can look it up if you want the info. Second, Etc. - Here are the photos I promised: More photos of White Fantasy Quartzite than you probably wanted (Is it wrong to be obsessed with this countertop?): Photos of Lutron Switchplates and Dimmers (I forget the color, but the line is Diva and Maestro - and I got samples and placed them against my backsplash to see if they matched. They did, perfectly - yay!) OK, I also included more photos of candy, because I'm also obsessed with that. Note that the kids are not allowed to touch the apothecary jars, but the penny candy jars are all theirs. Yes, I do laugh at myself:: I think the photo with the apothecary jars shows a good sample of the jet mist granite, too: Here are photos of the pendant lights and the Hickory Hardware American Diner pulls, knobs and cup pulls. They aren't great pics, unfortunately. The thing that ties the cabinet hardware, pendant lights and kitchen faucet/hot&cold water dispenser together are that they are all satin nickel and they all have "beading" - a row or two rows of banding - at the edges. I hope you can see that in the pics. I do occasionally catch my sweaters on the knobs and pulls, but as I haven't ruined anything yet, I don't mind: I just realized you can click on the photos to go to my album, where you can see larger version of them, which may be helpful for details. A few additional thoughts. I debated putting in the outlets on the horizontal, so they would blend in with the subway tile backsplash. Of course, as soon as I made up my mind, I went to tell my contractor, who was in the kitchen, installing the outlets upright. Oh, well. I can definitely live with it (although I had to work very hard to convince him to install the Lutron outlets/switchplates -he thought white was just fine. Silly man!) Also, although I thought I had thought everything through, using the great advice from everyone here, I'm not happy with my silverware drawers. There aren't enough - really because they are very shallow. I think I should have figured out how to put in at least one or two deeper drawers so I could have put in two layers of silverware, knives, etc. Also, I thought I was going to have three drawers underneath my cooktop, with the top drawer to be used for untensils. It turned out that I can't use the top drawer at all because of the depth of the cooktop. I'm not sure what I would have done differently, but I wish I could use that drawer! Anyway, I think that's it for now, until I show you the "before" and the bathroom. Thanks again!

I decided to paint some old boards over old colors that are light and neutral with the Aura Satin paint I have here in the quart and the BM Regal Pearl Finish paint in the SW Antique White color (not for the color but for the finish/shine). I really like painting with the Pearl Finish paint and the VOC count and drying time is so much less than the old formula. I know I will not be doing the painting but it is such a nice paint and really covers well. The Aura Paint I can not paint well with and I know a painter would have to be very skilled to paint with it. I will see how I feel when both boards dry but so far my feeling is that despite wanting to go lower VOC, I may just stay with the BM Regal Paint in the Pearl Finish since it is so nice and rich on the walls without too much of a shine. The Satin is definitely shinier than the Pearl. I do not like Eggshell or flat paint so I have decided to not try out the Aura Eggshell finish. I am going to have to air out the room due to my preference for finish over VOC count. If I would like an eggshell finish, I would go with the Natura.

Gol darn it! Got a whole post written and it's lost now. UHHh! Anyway, Thanks for the nice comments and suggestion eclectic: I love your vintage fridge! That kind of tile backsplash isn't for me, though. I'm WAY too much of a mess and really don't want big grout lines. Your kitchen is very charming, though. This thin brick is a big possibility, though! Mayflowers: I haven't heard back from the tile dude in a couple days so who knows. I do love that kind of tile... artistic with just enough whimsy to make me smile when I look at it. I think I could love it forever (however long THAT is, lol) I did mock it up without the tile... I'll have to look at it awhile to see which I like better. Maybe I don't need the tile after all. DH would be happier if he didn't have to set tile in the middle of a copper sheet, that's for sure... local: you're invited! Come in summer and we'll float or come in winter and show me how to cross country ski :) YA... I can't wait to see the floor installed, either. Piles of boxes just sitting there waiting....September or October for the flooring. November for the kitchen cabinets. Looking to move after Christmas and get our current house on the market and sold by early summer. Ok, getting ahead of myself a bit here... Seems the pale green behind the stove works the best to me, too. I hope the fireclay sample is a good color... EAM44: it is a great fit IF the color works. Gotta get a sample on the way tomorrow. I did an internet search for prices and couldn't even find it that way! 25.00 sq/ft isn't a deal breaker.. If I did a 6" BS around the whole L I'd need maybe 21 sq. feet. I can just hear DH now ... "what happened to the 3.00 a sq. ft white tile from Lowes?". Poor guy, he has a hard time keeping up with the changes :). Anyway, here is the tile or no-tile copper backsplash:

What about Bianco Romano? Kodiak? Giallo Ornamental?
I am not an expert on granite by any means but those seem to have white with the gold/warmer tones that I think would go well with your cabinets, depending on the slab of course.

Contrast is somewhat overrated, there is nothing wrong with reiterating a color or tone throughout different materials; in fact its harder to do that higher contrast.

I have both TB and colonial cream in my house. TB on my kitchen island and colonial cream in my bathroom.. My bathroom cab. are slightly darker than yours- they are more of a cinnamon stain so more reddish, but I love the combo together. Granted I don't have the oak floors in the bathroom so not exactly the same.
My TB is ONLY on my island and I didn't find it to be so hard to template for the island I think your TB slab is pretty consistent in terms of movement so i don't think it would be that difficult to template, unless that is not the slab you picked out... Sorry if i am not more help, but I guess I am a little impartial-

The TB is a lot more interesting in the examples you show. You would endlessly be noticing different parts of it and it would really be special. With what granite costs, I get one that is a thrill and not one that is so safe. You will see it every day, so you should really love whichever one you choose.
BTW - the fabricator will be doing the layout with your approval. No one will force you to come up with a game plan, but you do have veto power. Pretty cool...

Have you looked at Colonial Gold? That's what I have and I love all the different shades/colors in it. I wanted something that had "some" gold with a little black (for my black appliances). A lot of granites were just TOO gold for me but the CG was just right! Love it!!

limom, i would LOVE to see a picture of your granite..any pics? i'm off to a different granite yard today, wish me luck!

I love the TB but I'm impartial - I have TB, cherry cabinets and natural oak floor. I think it will look great. In a huge slab on it's side it's more dramatic but on the counters and island in a horizontal position it's calmer. Here's mine.

I prefer the colors and pattern of the TB, but I love bold granites with lots of movement. I don't think it would be difficult to template an island from that slab.

Here are a few very bad shots of my colonial gold granite. It certainly has some gold in it but does not look to be gold overall. My slab has nice movement and like I said, some black, gold, brown, grey/blue, white and sparkles!
I don't think you'll get a real feel for how nice it is from these photos...hopefully you'll be able to see CG in person!
