It would be helpful if you posted the model # of the furnace and associated thermostat, due to different modes (single stage, 2 stage, modulating) of operation, and degree of efficiency (80%, 90+%).

Being a single stage furnace, it should work properly with any good thermostat.

Installation is key. Assuming it was installed properly (some question based on pictures), there really isn't much you can do to gauge 'how it's doing'.

As long as a proper temperature rise was set, and the unit continues to function, that's about it.

Your 'open return' has (among other potential problems) resulted in an artificially low static pressure. If/when it is repaired, you may find that the noise level is higher and airflow may be affected.

Curious: What size/efficiency was the furnace (model #?) that was replaced? Also, what is your location and approx size (square feet) of your home?

V, the old furnace is York (don't remember the model) and it is 70kbup. The house is 2600sf including 900sf finished basement. I am in northeast (Mass).

Depending on how old the furnace was, it could be as low as 60 - 70% efficient, meaning an output of about 46,000 BTU. If it ran constantly and kept the house warm on the coldest day, then your new unit is vastly oversized. Your new furnace would output about 84,000 BTU.

Was a heat calc done? Whose idea was it to install this size of furnace?

If you're thoroughly disgusted with your contractor, and seek another contractor, you will be on the hook for the repairs. Also, you would lose any labor warranty offered by your present contractr. If your furnace is registered with the manufacturer, you MIGHT be able to have your mfg's warranty honored by another contractor, i.e., parts would be covered. Labor, would be on you.

Not being a PRO, I would suggest you check the manufacturer's customer service dept for particulars.

That was the current contractor's idea to install this size of unit to be more efficient warm up the house. I wish the 'oversize' does not bring any negative. I understand the warranty part of consequence and if it is only 6 month I will not be concern. I need a peace mind and find a trust one to do the work is so important to me. Thanks for the suggestion.

I found some times when flame is off, the fan is still on for a while to blow the hot air out, is this normal or fan and flame should be on and off simultaneously?

Oversized does NOT equal efficient; it equals 'fast'.

When your thermostat is satisfied, the furnace (heat exchanger) still contains heat. The blower runs until the 'useful' heat is captured.

If you are satisfied with your furnace and the temp of your house then why are you so worried. If you have questions about the install call another company to quote you on fixing it. otherwise use it and enjoy the heat, whats the point of your buyers remorse? You choose a contractor to replace your unit he gave you a six month warranty and there is a five year warranty on the furnace move ahead and use it.

The parts warrany is 10 years if the installing contractor properly registered the furnace with Rudd. Here is a link to some information.

Thanks all and I got your points. The contractor will come back to fix anything I raise up to him. I also will request town's inspection since this is required by law.
