Is a TXV valve on new Carrier AH supposed to make a loud squeal at start up and then continue to whistle while running? Normal? Thanks for any help with this.
Could there be another cause for the whistling sound? It echos throughout the house but is coming from the airhandler not the vents in the rooms. Do blowers whistle?
Your original post says there is a loud squeal at start up and then the continuous whistling. Is that still the case?
While the whistling is likely some obstruction that is entering the airflow, the loud squeal may be caused by the blower. The blower motor may have a bad bearing or there is some offset in the mounting of the motor that may be causing pressure or something like that. When a motor with a bad bearing is running, it can make a high pitched sound that can be perceived as whistling.
I had the ducts tested for leakage, size and the static pressure tested fine. The duct guy thought it was something mechanical.
The noise is gets worse the longer the heat pump is running in cooling. I don't hear the squeal at start up when the heat is coming on but it hasn't been on very often. I'm in Florida so neither is running much right now.
Is there a reason the airhandler might be making this noise in the cooling mode verus the heat mode or if it is the blower does it make sense that the longer and harder it is working the squeal gets louder and more consistent?
The txv was replaced at the recomendation of the manufacturer and that didn't help.
The noise is very irritating. This is a new unit and I'm hoping for a fix before it gets hot again!
The airhandler doesn't make this squeal at startup when the heat is calling, just when the airhandler is cooling.
I tried unpluging the breaker at the outside heat pump to see if the Air handler blower would still make this noise and it didn't. So can I rule out the blower motor as the cause?
What else causes a squeal at start up when just the unit is cooling and not heating?
Did anyone check the charge? It would seem that an overcharged system might cause vibration somewhere which could be conducted through the line set to the air handler. Do you have very long lines?
