Curious, what virus protection do you have on your computer? I know that Norton let a Trojan virus in mine, then wanted me to pay for a update and I had AVG and finally have AVAST. Also my Earthlink has a built in virus protection. Do you have Mal ware on your computer? It is free and does clear up a bunch of stuff.
I know what you mean about DH working on other computers. Mine did for awhile, but not he just says no. Too many other people can do it.

prevX and avast and 2 mal ware type programs... i am actually paranoid about this and do not ever view videos or chain emails, not even from my own dh LOL! it was actually caught but caused a crash and now it's stuck running a loop... at work i had microsoft essentials (per our computer guy) but i suspect those 'kids' turned it off to download stuff. plus we have 2 other locations signing on to our network system who don't use any protection and i've found infected files related to them. ~ liz

I don't know anything about cruisecritic, but I find it hard to believe that foodnetwork is infected. Who/what exactly is alleging this? Facebook and the like of course are likely to be infested but a site like the TV food network, no, can't believe that. It would be on the news immediately if it were true. Granted I only did a cursory search but found nothing to support this allegation.

I also highly doubt that your network was infected from it (again, Facebook,etc excepted), especially considering the problems seem to have started from the "outsiders" being allowed in the system. Kids can wreak havoc on computer systems. We made good money from one company whose owner let their kids use the company computers. Every few months we'd have to do a lockdown and sweep of the building and they didn't like that we wouldn't leave until every drawer, safe and cupboard was opened and each and every disk was cleaned. But of course the kid would come back with more infected disks, shut off the virus protection and infect the system. Those days it was primarily viruses to worry about.

Any company that doesn't put firewalls, virus and malware protection on their systems and servers deserve what they get. For that matter, anyone who won't do it at home is in the same boat AFAIC. It's sheer laziness and arrogance and affects others so others have the right to be upset with them.

It's too bad you have to suffer from their incompetence. Be sure to document everything in case they try to go after you for non-performance.

In the case of a network, one sick computer will infest the rest. You need to clean out everything, including each and every backup system, external drive, flash drive, diskettes if used, CDs, DVDs and any other recordable medium touching the network. Anyone who brings a personal notebook or something should also beware that they could easily be contaminated.

How big of an operation is this that doesn't secure their system any better than this? Or are they just that stupid?

cynic do a google search on it and palladium virus... everyone is complaining about it, you get it just from visiting the site, just like cruise critic. my dh warned me about the palladium over the weeknd, since i do go there, or did, i should say. i did not go to cruisecritic.com directly from FB and do not go on FB at work because i am a puter security snob and know the security at work is pathetic. i suspect the network because while scanning my wk puter i found infected internet temps files from our other location w/ that employees profile id. they know it's not me since there is a log & puter record of all activity. it was the same malware and viruses on all other puters these 2 kids used over the last 6 months. we all have the same passwords so everyone can jump on any puter :-/ i also completely cleaned mine up last friday but on monday some things were back...

this business is owned by 4 brothers who just learned how to txt and email, isn't that the most pathetic?! they do not understand anything about computers and believe the computer guy is too expensive and always trying to sell them something. they are plant growers not business people. our server is 5+ yrs old, often needs to be taken down, has 2 many users and too many users surfing the net w/o protection. we are also using a Great Plains (Pains) version from 2002 LOL and slowly loosing data over time, they just think someone is deleting it but no one is, our system is too old and corrupt. my puter which is from 1999 has been going bad slowly, i'm the one responsible for shipping $10 mil of plants which is about 85% of our income and i was told by the office manager (daughter of an owner) to figure out how to back up my email and contacts for when it does go bad LOL. it does not have a dvd drive and i'm not sticking a jump drive of mine on it LOL! it sooo sad all i can do is laugh about it... and thank gawd i'm only there thru the rest of the yr hopefully ~ liz

my office manager just got a root virus from yahoo.com and i got a virus from msnbc.com recently too. mine was caught by MSE and removed but the root virus was not caught and the puter tech had to come out for her puter. ~ liz

Got us on the 11th of this month. I visited foodnetwork and got the palladium crap. We were on the phone with HP from 11 am to 9 pm off and on trying different ways to clean it up. They eventually had to do a full clean up which basically took me back to out of the box new - status. I lost allot of stuff but we are finally back to normal. Won't visit that site anymore it just makes me too nervous. Yes, we had spyware, malware etc.

I just got a recipe off the food network two days ago; I had no problems. Is this something that would've shut me down immediately?

I got one from the AARP web site. I was working jigsaw puzzles there and I had to take it to a repair guy.

Thanks for the heads up Liz, we were just getting ready to look for our next cruise and used to visit Cruise Critic often. Hope they get it fixed soon.

Foodnetwork and cruisecritic are not infected. There's not a word of it on the net except here. You say you visited via a facebook link. That's one problem. When you click on ANY link, you don't really know where it's going. Someone clicked on something they shouldn't have.

we did get a trojan off my laptop using AVG boot disk overnight that was picked up at cruise critic thur pm. i clicked on cruise critic's weblink on their own FB page, not an ad i do not get ads anywhere. did toast the hard drive but luckily i back up often (double back up pics and music) and we had a few spare drives on hand and DH fixed it! i did click on your link on palladium and i think that is on my wk puter too, amoung a bunch of others LOL but i'm not wasting my time fixing that. there are several things i can not do now w/ my puter in the state it's in and when it becomes enough of a hassle for the manager to do those things i'll get a new one LOL - liz

bigfoot_liz, I did another search since you refuse to document your allegations or provide a link to your sources. Your allegation is the only one I see. I won't bother chasing after unsubstantiated rumors any more. This is why I asked where YOU heard that the foodnetwork.com was infected with it. That's a pretty big allegation to make without any substantiation. To say go look it up doesn't say much. Apparently you heard a rumor and are panicking and spreading what appears at this point to be a hoax. If you have any documentation that there is any credibility to you charges, please post them. But in the meantime I'd suggest that people not run scared from a likely hoax. As I said, Facebook wouldn't surprise me and the other site I have no knowledge as to their setup but I stand by my original skepticism.

Palladium is real, no doubt. But people have a responsibility to verify some facts before running off screaming the sky is falling. With this type of reaction you'll likely have a lot more trouble with malware in the future.

People need to educate themselves on the safe operation of computers and not be guided by emails and rogue rumors. Verify things or you risk being taken in by the "Nigerian General" or the "$250 cookie recipe"!

I contacted Food Network and asked them about this to see if they would confirm or deny having embedded trojan viruses. And FWIW, I've never heard of a "trojan virus" There's trojans and theres viruses and they're different. Perhaps you've discovered a hybrid or something, IDK but I'll let you know what response if any I receive from them.

I got the Palladium virus a few days ago using the Foodnetwork site too!

I'm in the midst of having it worked on and it's been HECK trying to get rid the mess it's made.
My son also had to uninstall and do a recovery for me, my computer was back to " out of the box"...but had challenges there too. Cripes.
Along with that virus, I now am the proud owner of a virus call Google redirect. Fun.

So, in saying it ain't true that visiting Foodnetwork won't infect your computer...go ahead and visit. But only if you'd like to tear your hair out.
