Circuit City to Go Out of Business

Another one closes....is Circuit City in your area? This is where we buy most of our electronics...guess we'll have to move on. Wonder what's next??

I thought they went bankrupt last year... surprised they lasted this long.

Circuit City build a brand new store, in my area, and when they went bankrupt, no opening.
What a shame!

With me and one son here and mom, sisters and two sons there, we love it!!! Actually, I don't have a camera, as it's one of the things that I always mean to get around to buying but never do, but the setup is grand, and DG uses it all the time with her son who is now in Hawaii. She's the computer tech person in the family. I remember being here for a year when there was only snail mail, and all letters were two weeks out of date, and some got lost, although the ones I have saved are dear and precious. But cyberspace has allowed me to stay in touch with my sons and family in a way I never imagined, and without it I would be fairly bereft. As one who reads endless amounts of science fiction, I am only too aware that today's sf is tomorrow's science, and for me, the communication universe is a miracle. Phone rates are way down, too, so calling and chatting is nowhere near the money it once was, and I talk to the States 2-3 times a month. Easy, cheap and wonderful! Batya

No, we're going a different route, Susan, but I'm sure the foliage would be gorgeous on that highway, since it runs through the mountains. We'll be taking a more southerly route through Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina, missing the mountains, but there may be some pretty foliage there, too. I have an Ancestry.com account, and traced one line on my mother's side back fourteen generations (with proof for every generation) to Arthur Allen, who built a brick house in Surry County, VA near the James River in 1665 that's owned by Preservation Virginia. We'll be touring this house, also known as Bacon's Castle, because Bacon's army took it over during the rebellion. I made up a booklet for my family with each generation documented and interesting information also - it was fun to do, and everybody really appreciated it. We'll also be going to Jamestowne, which is close to the Allen house. I especially want to see the artifacts from the original fort at Jamestowne at their museum. My Daddy had an ancestor who was one of the original settlers there, so it's also personal - I'll be compiling another booklet about this line. When we go through South Carolina, I'll be gathering more information and pictures about this line of my Daddy's and also information and pictures of an old house that belonged to an ancestor of my husband - I'm also researching and writing a booklet about this interesting line of his. Not exactly your question, but I'm amazed at how many people don't know this... If you are going to pay with a Visa or Mastercard (not sure if Costco accepts those), call ahead and find out what their warranty program is. Most of my cards will automatically double the manufacturer's warranty as long as I keep the charge receipt. Some cards require you to put the item on file with them when you purchase it. Just thought I'd pass it along....

Is Mythic Paint out of business?

There's a brick & mortar store here in the Twin Cities that sells "natural" home products like Mythic. They are advertising a December sort-of garage-sale; one section of the ad is mistinted paints as well as the phrase "Discontinued paint can be tinted (Mythic Pro)." While searching to see if Mythic is out of business, I found an on-line merchant for which all three Mythic lines are labeled "Very Limited Stock On This Product. Call for availability./**Most Pastel and Off White Colors are NO LONGER AVAILABLE**" And I just tried their Web site and got nothing, not even a "gone-fishing" screen. There was some serious weather in Mississippi yesterday, though (where Mythic is based in the U.S.) so that may play into that. Their twitter account has cobwebs from the last time it was used, so no info there either. Not sure if they're out of business but something certainly is up.

I can't remember....is Circuit City the company that used to be Radio Shack? Or was it always Circuit City?

Never bought that much there but always happy with my transactions. It's too bad. But I'm not surprised. Never many people there.

Our Circuit City was always so busy, they will be missed here. What a shame. They were trying to find a buyer, I thought maybe Best Buy would take them on.

I bought one laptop at Circuit City, declined their warranty package, and was pestered by phone calls for years afterward, trying to sell me the warranty.
That's where they made their money. I never bought another thing from them.

I feel sorry for the employees, but it wasn't a popular store around here.

I'm sure ours will be closing too. I'm image you can get a great buy on some things, but I'm always leary about being something from a store going out of business. I know the warranties are in full affect, but where do you take it for the repair?

The only time I did do that was when Montgomery Wards close. Got some great deals on big, fluffy towels and some much needed new cookware.

I too wonder who will be next on the chopping block.

Did I hear correctly that they had been in business for 60 years? What a shame that they had to close; I liked them a lot.

Ours closed just before Christmas. If you go to shop their "sales", know your prices on things from other stores first!!! Many, many things that were supposed to be 50-70% off were only what sale prices have been for over six months around here. We did get a couple of good deals, but most were not 50-70% off, as stated, in my opinion. We always preferred best buy. Most of the time, looking at the sale ads and prices in store, you got more product for a better price at best buy. No, I did not/do not work for either store.
