Rowenta Pressure Iron and Steamer - another water question

I have the Rowenta Pressure Iron and Steamer (see photo below from JCPenney). I've been using tap water, as suggested in the manual. I only recently realized that you have to empty out the water after each use... When I empty it out, the water is VERY white. It almost looks like the color of skim milk but a little more watery. To others who have this unit or something similar: is this normal? I'm worried that my water might cause problems for the iron. I've been using cold water from the tap and just assuming that the cold water is not softened. I also have access to RO water but I see that RO is not recommended.

Iron & Steamer (sorry for the long link - what happened to the link maker?)
