We have Lexington BR furniture. I bought these pieces 10 years ago, and this line is discontinued, but I bought them with the intention I would basically have them forever. I wanted white furniture since I was little. So, maybe look into Lexington. For me at the time, it was between the Lexington and Ethan Allen Swedish Home.

There might be something better than dressers for clothing storage. If you posted photos of the room, maybe someone can come up with other options.

I agree it's over priced as is, but sale priced it's similarly priced to other similar brands. I'd do it if it were on sale. I checked the warehouse sale but it's not for the pieces I want. Pottery Barn Kids is having a furniture sale now, but their stuff is too small.

My husband will not want to buy from GW or CL for bedroom furniture. I can't say I blame him. I will check Lexington. I've checked American Drew as well as Stanley...all simmilarly priced, but the pieces don't work or aren't my style. Just wondering when the sales are. Kinda like January is usually white sales, when are the furniture sales? And I want this to be my forever stuff as well, but still, $2k+ for one dresser, that won't hold more than the Ikea junk I presently have? Really?

A large dresser for my husband, one for myself, then 2 smaller ones (3-drawer type) for nightstands (see pic below with actual nightstands on left, a small dresser on right, partially seen in photo). Our bed is very high so we find that the smaller dressers work better than nightstands.

Here's an old picture...there are other areas where we would put the 2 larger dressers. Armoire's (unless very small) won't work because of the ceiling height restrictions.

Have you considered custom type shelving in your closet to hold folded clothing in the "wasted" space? The Container Store usually runs an ELFA sale around this time of the year and I love their ventilated shelving systems. You can add drawers for stuff like underwear and the shelves for sweaters, tees and other items you'd normally have in the dresser.

Just a thought. Also Craigslist and tag sales, if you don't mind potentially mis-matched items (since you need 4).

Fivefootzero, your BR sounds like ours. We have a very large dresser with mirror, one tall nightstand and one small dresser (and a chair)that are the Lexington, then I have JCP hamper that kind of matches. We have a white iron headboard, just upgraded from full to queen about 2 years ago.

gsciencechick: Our bed was upgraded after the birth of my daughter...we had a full antique iron bed previously. Its crazy going to the stores...they look at you like you have 7 heads when you tell them you're not interested in a "suite"...I don't like matchy matchy to begin with...and I wouldn't have "matching" dressers, just the ones I use for nightstands.

Clubcracker: We have shelving in the closet, the Closetmaid stuff. It's as good as it's going to get. So I'm not even considering that space when buying furniture.

I need at least the same storage capacity I have now (which is Ikea: one long 6-drawer dresser 18" deep, 60" in length; one tall 6-drawer dresser, 18" deep, approximately 36" wide; and 2 small dressers with 3-drawers, 18" deep and approximately 36" wide) , but would definitely like more if I'm going to upgrade for this cost. I have found that if I get a large double dresser (at least 7-8 drawers) for my husband, a chifforobe or mule chest for myself, and then the 2 small dressers (minimum of 3 drawers) for nightstands, it would be a slight upgrade.

And for all these pieces 10 years ago I paid around $2K from a furntiture store. At least you already have the closet shelving. I hear you. That's about all we can do, too, unless we do an addition, and that's not in the short-term plans at all.

Considering we just finished our kitchen (and that was a budget re-do at $22k), no addition in my future either.

Another vote to check CL for anywhere in range.

Are there any consignment shops in your area? The good ones around here have a waitlist for the sellers, and they can often come up with what you want. Very high end pieces at low end prices - and way below PB retail.

Since you don't want matchy matchy, finding two 3 drawer dressers and 2 larger ones in good quality/condition that work well together should be doable.

Do you have a time line?

Celtic, my husband does not want used bedroom furniture...so CL and consignment shops are not an option. Not that there are any good ones around here anyway. They are all picked through and really gross.

We did more measuring last night. Everything I've seen might work, except the nightstands which I definitely need small dressers for nothing else but the height. The pic above shows a small dresser on the right...that is 30" high. Most nightstands I've seen are 27"-28" high and will be dwarfed by my bed which is pretty high.

I'm liking some American Drew Sterling Pointe items, but then nightstands are too short. The armoire would even fit with our wonky ceilings. So it's back to square one again.

I saw some beautiful cherry furniture from Brown Street Furniture at a local store...yowza...Ethan Allen pricing again though.

Well, if your husband won't consider used furniture it looks like you will have to pay the furniture store prices. The finest antiques in the world are all used. I don't really get his objection, but that's beside the point. If you want quality new furniture that will last for decades you are going to have to pay for it.

Have you considered Ikea? We did our whole bedroom - 2 smaller dressers for nightstands, one long dresser and one armoir for around $1,000.

Macy's is having a one-day sale today, Jan. 7. Looks like they have some close-out dressers. Don't know if the prices and styles meet your criteria, but you might take a quick look.

I was married to a man who was completely against buying "somebody else's" furniture for any reason. I never understood it with him but I had to accept it. So, I won't bother suggesting it, but having bought only brand new sofas for my home and knowing how hard it is to find what you need at a price you can pay, I just say.......keep looking.

Are you in a small town or urban area? There have to be places with dressers that would work for you. A dresser is not that hard to find with good storage. I just bought a french provencial style (vintage) that I'm repainting. It has nice drawers and lots of storage. Maybe ask the salesmen when their good sales will be? Or tell them that you really want to buy right now, how good can they make the price for you?

I don't know where you live, but I am in Northern Ohio, and we just had a piece of furniture made. I took in a pottery barn picture and they duplicated it for me, in real solid wood, and I got to pick the hardware and the stain, and the wood type. It ended up being cheaper than the pottery barn one would have, and I believe better quality. The lady working with me said they get pottery barn pictures all the time, that people want to duplicate.

I haven't read all the responses, but I did see that your DH refuses to buy anything but new. So he must be okay with the pricing, then? Paying $4000 for essentially horizontal closet space for your room seems way too much to me, too.

Is there a problem with your IKEA stuff, or are you just tired of it? Are you looking for a new look? Honestly, I think some of the IKEA stuff is better than the 'regular furniture' that we looked at when we were considering new bedroom furniture. We ended up buying Sauder RTA, in a Mission style, that I love. The drawers glide smoothly and close nicely, better than much of the 'real' furniture we looked at, they fit our room well, and in the end, no one sees them but us. We have had the furniture for about 10 years, and it still looks good and functions well.

But my other suggestion to you is have you considered having closets built into the room instead of buying dressers? You have just done a kitchen remodel, so I am thinking you have access to someone who could do the work - and it would be much cheaper than $4000 to frame out some closet space. You could do some kind of built-in storage if you wanted to spend more, or get the wire closet stuff and install some drawers or shelving. The closets don't need to be the height of the full ceiling, so they could fit under your slanted ceilings with no issue.

It took me about 5 years to add to our original 25 year old bedroom furniture to furnish our new master suite. I don't like matchy stuff either, although our longtime bed with attached nightstands, 2 dressers and a floor mirror are all Scandinavian Design. I didn't want to match with anymore teak but needed additional storage and ended up with a large dark 5 drawer chest, a tall black lingerie chest, a bamboo-rattan tropical Lane cedar chest which I put at the end of our bed, and a large natural cherry hutch. Wicker thrown in, and a few black painted pieces (etagere, one door cabinet, bamboo table). It all worked out in the end.

I bought some of the pieces on line (Ballard's, JCPenney), some at local furniture stores (in their basement clearance areas) and some at HomeGoods/TJ Maxx. And a wicker desk from Pier One. It all works. But it took a loooong time!!

I got a West Elm catalog, and these pieces may work for you. However, they're imported and I'm not sure if they are better than the Ikea you already have.

Maybe custom built-ins may be more cost-effective. Buying American made/NC made is going to be best quality, but the most expensive.

Just wanted to give an update on what has transpired over the weekend. We found a set of dressers + nightstands that would work in our room. Broyhill Bryson. While probably not everybody's classification of "forever" furniture, if our Ikea stuff lasted 15+ years of hard use, I'm sure these will last us at least double that. We found them at Value City during their 1/2 off sale, but I was leary about getting anything from there after hearing and reading some horror stories. I went to a local furniture store who sells Broyhill (among other brands) and he gladly matched the price and was very appreciative for the opportunity to do so. I will also be looking for furniture for my den in the next year or so, so it was nice to know a local place where I could go and get this kind of deal, while helping the local guy out. Delivery will be 2-4 weeks and hopefully this will go as well. I fell in love with a Flexsteel sectional...so that's on my list for the den if all goes well with this purchase.

And while I'm sure some of you have no problems buying used furniture, I am one that can go either way...depending on the use and the age of the piece. I have many antique oak pieces (I'm talking over 100 years old, some of which are dressers) in my home, but they are not used to store clothing. I couldn't see myself putting clothing in them, just with the textures of the drawers, etc. I use them for my living room for storage. I have had the experience of buying a used dresser for my son's room and having everything inside the dresser smell like the previous owners items. I tried everything, and in the end wound up using it in the basement because I couldn't stand it. I know you can sand (we did), clean (we did), paint (didn't go that far).

Anyway, than you so much for all the suggestions. I've posted a link of the items we got. We were able to find 2 nightstands that were tall enough (30 x 30 x 18), a large door dresser, a chest, and even a bench that has drawers to go under my window, all for $2115 plus free delivery. I like that this set is a light wood, and it has some distressing (so I don't have to cry when I put the first ding in it). I most likely will be recovering the bench though, not crazy about the neutral burlap looking upholstry. And even though I do not like matchy matchy stuff, I would have splurged for the bed in a heartbeat if it would have fit in my room without covering a portion of my window. Those drawers underneath make me drool at the extra storage...LOL

Now, on to window treatments. No clue but I definitely like white (my room is now yellow as opposed to the pic above). I have to post more recent pics to see if any of you have ideas.

Fivefootzero, I know exactly what you went through because we have virtually given up for now. We went from store to store, looked at second hand, nothing. We came close twice but both sets just weren't quite right. One of them was actually similiar to your Bryson.

Unlike you though we don't need any storage, just a fabulous bed with 2 nightstands (clothes are in the closet). It seemed like if we found a bed we liked, the nightstand wasn't right. If the night stand was great, the bed was lack luster. We tried pieces two different sets, nothing.

It's hard to look online IMO as the sets we found IRL seemed not as nice online. For us it seems like we had to trudge through store after store (and I HATE shopping).

I want our master bedroom to be like a luxurious hotel, oasis from everything else. The search continues for us, I'm glad you were able to find something that fits for you!

Congrats on finding the pieces you need! DH's old set in our guest BR is a similar-looking Broyhill. It is very solid.
