Integrated Fisher & Paykel Dish drawer: ? for owners

Can I use my own handle if I'm having a panel made for this or do I have to use the one I see on the website?

I am installing 2 tall singles, one on each side of the sink.

I am having the front look like a stack of 3 drawers rather than one giant drawer with a drawer below it.

I really want to be able to use the hardware that matches the other drawers' hardware.

You HAVE to provide your own handle I'm pretty sure! Mine was a few years ago but it most definitely didn't come with a handle.

aha! I was looking at a photo on AJMadison's website. They show a handle.

D.J Healy, Obviously you're having some extreme problems. My DishDrawer is now past 12 years of age and has not had any such continual/recurring problems are you've experienced. I surely don't have to prewash or postwash anything. I would love to get a hands-on look at your machine and your usage habits to see what may factors may be contributing to your dissatisfaction. I'm in TX but about 5.5 hrs from DFW area. A couple months ago I noticed water leaking on the floor to varying degrees after running loads at various times in both the upper and lower drawers. Upon investigating I found that both drain hoses had developed cracks -- both were cracked behind the DishDrawer where they made a sharp bend toward the opening in the cabinetry partition to the sink plumbing, the lower hose was also cracked a few inches from where it attached to the pump. The drain hoses flex every time the drawers are open/closed so it's not unusual that a crack may occur after years of use. I have experience working on appliances so can DIY pretty much any repair (except refrigeration!). F&P parts are available from a couple online sources. The backlight on the upper drawer's LCD panel had gone out a year or so earlier (which didn't prevent the unit from working, the operational icons and cycle time were displayed, just not lit from behind) so I took the parts-order opportunity to replace it. There have been updates on the lid motors (mine were still working at 12 years) and hose/wiring supports (upper had broken a couple years ago, I patched it with a zip-tie) so I also got a kit package to update my older unit on those points. No other repairs for the 12-years duration to that point. Regards to cleaning performance, below are some examples of what I load-in and how it comes out. I didn't take these pictures just now, I have them on-hand from previous discussion posts. Baked chicken (sat for several days before washing). Boiled-over oatmeal with raspberry jam. Microwaved pasta & sauce.

Oh dadoes, I just saw your comment. I did get the specs and the DD requires 23 5/8" for the inner cavity. I've talked with a contractor who will be bidding on my kitchen facelift. He thinks I'll need to use a 27" cabinet. The walls of a 24" only leave 22.5" internal cavity and the cutout for the doors is only 21" wide. So, it looks like we'll be going with a 27" cabinet. I looked at the installation manual for the double DD, which does not require a cabinet. It just slides in between two cabinets, so there are no side walls or door/drawer cutouts to contend with. I still have to figure out what is the maximum sink depth, w/drain, that we can use to fit into the space above the DD. Any thoughts on that?

Does not require an air gap regards to machine function. Each drawer (on a double-drawer unit) has a drain hose and a Y-adapter is (should be) included to connect them to the plumbing port. VERY important that the drain hoses are routed under the sink on a high loop, and down from the loop to the Y, *without* sagging lower before connecting to it. If local codes require an air gap, F&P has a special (optional) dual air gap for connecting both hoses to avoid backflow from one to the other.

dadoes, Thank you for the response. One clarification. So if your cabinet doors and drawers are the style that overlap the cabinets then I guess the top drawer doesn't match the rest of your drawers if you leave the space. I just have seen a lot of pictures and have not noticed a space at the top. I think there is likely a little room for adjustment when attaching the panels, but I am trying to be as exact as I can be. With regard to the toe kick, I think it is made of plastic and could be trimmed more on my existing dishwasher in order to avoid the hitting of the floor. You are probably right that it is not quite level as well. I notice on the new models when I was calculating the size of the drawer fronts, there is a measurement for a toe kick that you can order when you order your panels. Or maybe the panel ready models don't come with the plastic toe kick and it is something they assume you will order along with your drawer panels. Seems that the point of getting a panel-ready model is to match the cabinets and so I am trying to determine with the information available how best to do that. Seems like there are a lot of unknowns and things could be better explained in the manuals. Again I do appreciate your reply.

They can't display it the way it's shipped--it's ugly. Bare metal, lumpy and unfinished. I used mine like that for a while before I remodeled. Had to use a really good magnet to open it.

Did you buy the units already? The model was just updated. The dimensions changed somewhat and more importantly, integrated models are now "fully integrated" but need remote controls to operate. I am not sure if your cabinet done but I would suggest rechecking the dimensions and make sure you can live with the remotes. I am not sure about the remote but have not been able to find any of the older models near me.

What do u mean by remotes? Like remote TV controllers? How odd would that be? Curious as I am doing these on my prep island.

oh geez, they changed the dimensions? No, I don't have either the DDs or the Cabinets yet. Actually the cabinetmaker only knows they are 24" DDs, single Tall. Not sure he looked up the exact specs yet.

I guess I gotta bite the bullet on the DDs ahd stop delaying.

We close on the house/lot tomorrow. I have been waiting for that final step in the planning to start purchasing things. Last thing I wanted was a bunch of appliances and other things hanging around without an actual house to use them in.

They'll probably still go in the same hole. Panel sizes may be different of course.

I think the remote control will be good for integrated. NO controls visible, so total dishwasher concealment. My integrated one required me to pull out the secret passcode book to program some settings. A remote should allow easy function selection. I HOPE it would come with mounting screws so you could just stick it on the inside of a cabinet door (Sink tip out?). Don't think of it as something your kids will lose.

Of course I don't know what it actually does. But the idea which sounds ridiculous at first makes sense if you think about it.

Hi Bee,

Yes..remote controls like TV remote controller. I haven't seen any of the newer models but looks like many people are grabbing the older models if they can.

fori - I understand your point about the remote being a good idea if you want the integrated look. I am just concerned that we will lose it.. We are not good as a family about putting things where they belong. Our phones make it's way into the freezer, passports are left behind at home and we forget to serve the bruschetta that was crisping in the oven. As it is I am fretting about the gaggenau induction knob:)
