Update on crate training Brandy the pup

Well, I got home late afternoon yesterday from my trip and unpacked the crate from my car. The nice kid at the feed store had assembled it for me so we were ready to go.

I put it in our main living room where we all hang out and watch tv etc. with the door open and a comfy blanket inside.

A couple of times yesterday eve, I put a treat in for each of the dogs, and they were happy to go in and get them, but came right back out.

They have been here today in the house, while we worked, and tonite I put a treat in for each, and repeated yesterdays work.

After they had gone outside post alpo supper, I had Brandy go in and closed the door for about 5 minutes. I went about my business and she just hung out. I let her out and praised her. No treat though.

Then after we had supper, I put her in it and shut the door and went into the kitchen to do dishes. Next thing I know I have piddled around for almost 45 minutes, and nary a peep out of Brandy. I forgot that I had put her in there, and when I went back into the room, I let her out, gave them both a treat and put them outside, which is where they are now.

I think it has been a success so far, and I am feeling much better about the whole thing.

Thanks to everyone for putting me at ease and giving me such great pointers.

I will put her in it for longer this everning, and if she crashes out, leave her until the next outside trip.

I do notice that he older dog lays in front of the kennel with her when she is in there.
