Maytag Bravos with heater question.

Wondering if the heater works on most cycles? I'm contemplating buying a new washer and am leaning towards the new GE Profile with heater. I have the old version Harmony and like it very much.

That being said, the Maytag Bravos is my second choice due to it also having a heater. What cycles use it?

Hopefully more than just the sanitary cycle.

I don't have 220v otherwise I'd probably try to get a used Miele or Asko. No concrete sub floor though, not sure if that would cause problems. Had an LG FL a number of years back and it shook pretty bad!

I think the Harmony and the LG WaveForce only use the heater on two cycles: Bright Whites and Sanitary. The GE manual says Sanitary goes up to 140F.

Maytag's manual says:

Sanitary with Oxi - Yes
Heavy Duty - Yes
Whites - Yes
Bulky - Yes
Sheets - Yes
Normal - Yes
Power Wash - Yes
Colors/Towels - yes
Rapid Wash - Yes
Hand Wash - Yes
Clean Washer - No
Soak - No
Rinse & Spin - No
Drain & Spin - No

This may be my answer even though I gave my year old Oasis to my mom ( she loves it, I wasn't giddy over it) and bought a Harmony. Love it!
Hoping the Bravos washes differently than the Oasis...

If I may ask....
What thoughts do you have comparing the stainless steel interior basket to the porcelain? My mind tells me the stainless keeps more germs at bay. Am I looped??

Thanks for the info dadoes! Well, at least the particlar Bosch HE front loader I have won't properly wash my queen quilt or the cotton/polyester mattress pad I have. The issue is that neither gets completely wet on the inside- when I've taken out both, there are areas that are wet, others that are bone dry (the machine spins at 1,200 and gets clothing almost dry, but in this case, when I mean bone dry, there is no hint of wetness). I've tried a couple of times with both items, but have given up and now go to the laundry mat. In neither case is the drum completely full, loosely packed there is still space a the top of the drum. It also won't completely wash the pillows I've tried. that is a tricky one because when trying to wash one pillow, the machine does not spin all the water out properly because it isn't balanced, although the pillow does get wet, two pillows do not get thouroughly wet, but do spin okay. I should mention that the Bosch manual on this model is a joke and has virtually no information about properly loading the clothing, detergent levels, etc. I err on the side of caution and lightly layer in the clothing and leave space at the top of the drum. There are other reasons I don't like the machine- I find it particularly hard on my clothing- for example, several times after I've washed a brand new dark cotton shirt, the shirt comes out looking faded and worn around the collar and lower hem, something I would see in my old top loader only after several, several washes. I use Tide which does not contain an optical brightener and turn my clothing inside out. My husband's dress shirts only last about a year now, the collar takes a beating and the fabric pills. Stains are hard to remove. The top hem of my sheets have permanent creases which won't iron out- I had a sheet that was 12 years old that had this happen to it and I'm upset about that one because I rarely find sheets of that quality anymore. I won't go on, but I do want a new washer. Right now I'm leaning towards the Cabrio, especially if the mechanics are virtuatlly the same in both the Whirlpool and Maytag. Thanks! Barbara

Having had a Bravos washer without an internal heating element for two years, I can tell you that your statement does not reflect my experience -- and I only did the "clean washer" cycle with Affresh one time. A number of friends and relatives who own(ed) frontloaders were envious of my experience. Several of them have bought Bravos washers because of this, and they are all very happy with theirs. I always did these things: 1) I left the lid open whenever I wasn't doing laundry, and 2) I washed at least one load (white clothes such as T-shirts and socks, or white towels) each week in hot water, with some bleach, and 3) I used baking soda in the wash and white vinegar in the rinse when washing those loads, which may or many not have made a difference. The only reason I bought a Bravos washer with an internal water heater is because our old water heater died, and the new one -- an energy saver -- did not provide hot water to the washer, only warm and cold. I absolutely loved my first Bravos washer and would still have it today if it weren't for that. I love my new one, too. :)

* Also, doesnt the Bravos have a soak cycle on it? Yes, it does. You can choose how long you want it to last, according to soil level. And you can let it continue until it's through, or you can Pause the washer and let laundry soak longer. * I thought in the owners manual it said it does, but it will drain and stop after the soak cycle runs. Yes, it does, when the Soak cycle finishes. * I actually wash my work jeans and T shirts on sanitary cycle in my HE3T with soak cycle. The Bravos 850 also has a sanitary cycle. * How hot does the sanitary cycle her in yours, anyone know? I've never taken its temp, but it gets REALLY hot. I think the manual tells how hot it gets. * Its nice of you to remember me Mara, Im not on here much anymore, been working a pile of mandatory overtime all summer long :( but now I can pay cash for the new set when decide on what to get. Me too, gates -- working longer hours. Glad to know you're getting overtime! The increased pay sure does help. It is SO NICE to be able to pay cash for appliances and other big purchases. * One more question..what exactly is the "deep rinse"? DOes it fill more than the wash cycle or just not the spray rinse that is on the bravos. I rarely use the spray rinse, simply because I must use the deep rinse in order to use fabric softener or vinegar (or both). I'm assuming it does use more water than the spray rinse. My dd has used the spray rinse when she's washed her clothes (usually on the Quick Wash, when she's in a hurry for a particular outfit). Her clothes came out fine. I hope this helps! And I hope you get a break from so many hours soon -- after you've paid cash for the new set, of course. ;)

as Alex said, the LG uses the heater in the bright whites and sanitary cycle, which heats the water to 160 degree's. I dont think there is a defference in keeping germs at bay between stainless and porcelain. If one were a plastic tub, that would be different. I have the LG, very happy with it

I am a very grateful owner of a Maytag Bravos 850 (which has an internal heater). I can vouch for the list of cycles posted above. The water gets VERY hot -- feels like at least 160 F to me.

The internal water heater can also be used to warm wash water. This is a great feature in the wintertime when my water is naturally colder and I want a true warm wash.

I really like the stainless tub because rust will never be a problem. I also haven't had a problem with the wall of the tub 'grabbing' my laundry and causing pulls like porcelain tubs did.

Mara's comment is spot on. I would not consider a Bravos unless it has the heater. I've been very very pleased with my 850, especially the selectable"clean boost with heater" button. It adds quite a bit of time to the cycle, but the performance is worth it.

Another seldom-mentioned feature is the way the Bravos handles unbalanced loads. My previous Kenmore Elite required a lot of attention to keep some loads from malfunctioning. Not so with the Bravos. When it hits "unbalanced," it goes into a routine that somehow fixes the problem. It adds a few minutes to the cycle, but in a year I've never had a load that the machine couldn't resolve. The Bravos won't "walk" the way my previous washers did when unbalanced.

Ok, just so I'm clear, according to the list whirlpool trainee provided, the heater is implemented in all of the "yes" cycles??
Is this model still available?
Where?
What was your approx. cost?

At Lowe's today, saw a Bravos with the glass lid. Not sure what selector button indicates whether it had a heater. No salesman in sight!
Mara can you chime in? Would this be the same model that you currently have or did Maytag come out with a newer version still??

The easiest way to see current models is to look on the manufacturer's website. The heater button on my 850 Bravos is marked "clean boost with heater."
