The first Beatles album!

Tennessee Ernie Ford Hyms in an album. I was in 7th grade when I got my record player. I still have the album.

My first record album was a gift to me from my friend for my 13th birthday. "Leader of the Pack" by The Shangri-Las. I still have it.

I don't remember the first one I ever bought. Probably The Beachboys or The Hondells. California surf scene was big at the time.

Later that year I got my first Phil Ochs album. It was wrapped in a plain brown wrapper. Very controversial at the time.

I think it was a 45 by Ritchie Valens, Oh Donna. The 1st album was Elvis's 1st album. Don't remember the name of it.

My mom still reminds me that I once told her, quite indignantly, that, "New Kids will NEVER go out of style, Mom!" I think I was 10.

A big ol' lp by Donny Osmond. I bet I wore that thing out listening to Puppy Love. I went to an Osmond Brothers concert too when I was in 7th grade. I was going to marry Donny - he just never met me.

I had 5 older teenaged siblings so I didn't need to buy my own records for a long time but I think the first one I bought was Mad Dogs and Englishmen by Elton John. None of my friends had ever heard of him at the time but I heard the song Spaceman and loved it.

The first 45 I remember buying besides Alvin and the Chipmunks was Going to the Coal Mine and Cool Jerk which I bought in Aurora while visiting my Aunt and Cousin. I thought I was so cool in my white Go Go boots. LOLOL I probably wasn't more than 8 or 9 years old.

As a child I grew up listening to Motown.

The first 45 I ever bought was My True Love by Jack Scott.

Living across from Detroit, I grew up on Motown music also. So when Simon and Garfunkel became popular, it was a completely different sound, but I loved them. Their album 'Sounds of Silence' was the first album I ever owned.

Ooops, I made a mistake. I went and looked at my albums and Elton John's record wasn't Mad Dog's and Englishmen - that was Joe Cocker, it was Madman Across the Water which was the second album of his I bought. The first album I bought was Elton John's Honky Chateau and the song was Rocket Man not Spaceman. LOL I hate that my memory fails me sometimes. LOL

I think the next record I bought was Let it Be by the Rolling Stones and then T-Rex. I loved T-Rex. LOL

My early teenaged favourite records besides Motown was David Bowie, Cream, early Elton John, Alice Cooper, Rolling Stones, Slade, Bob Seger, Harry Neillson, T-Rex (too bad he died), Deep Purple, the Kinks, The Doors, The Who, Chicago. I had such an ecclectic taste in music. LOL

OK! I had a little red "metal" 45/33 playler (probably from Sears). I was in the second grade when my Mom bought "All Shook Up" by Elvis. I played it over and over. other than that it was "Alvin and the Chipmonks" and "Purple People Eater". OK, I was a nerd.

Then the first Album I ever "bought" was "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Heartclub Band" by of course "The Beatles".

When transistor radios came in...I didn't feel a need to "buy" anything.

Also, I just took over my Brother's Inventory of what he was bored with.

I had 2 older brothers, I listened to whatever they bought. Beatles, Monkees, Rolling Stones, etc. I don't think I bought anything until they were out of the house and on their own. It was probably an album by Traffic, When the Eagle Flies.

Just like Gayle, the first album that I bought with my own money was Sargeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (The Beatles). We lived in England then, and I bought it in 1967 with some of my Christmas money.

I have it in a credenza, along with all of my other LPs and some of my mom's & grandmother's old records, and I still have a turntable to play them on. Fun!

Don't get me wrong, I also have a CD player, iPod and modern music formats. I just like having the old vinyl too.

The first record I ever bought was a 45. It was "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" by the Beatles. The flip side was "This Boy". My best friend, Collette, and I listened to that record a million times! Thanks for the memories.

I'm glad others mentioned 45 speed records! Cannot rememeber which one was first, but for you youngsters, they had one song on each side. I think they cost $1. That was a fine price because that's about the most money I had at one time!

Mine was R. Dean Taylor's album with Indiana Wants Me on it.

ahhhh...what a trip down memory lane...I have ALL my vinyl's, have uploaded bunches of them to the computer...scratchy noises and all...some never made it to CD and I couldn't part with them...

My first album was Monkee's Headquarters..the first 45 I got was 98.6 by Keith...they had these cheap 45's you could buy at grocery stores that weren't by the REAL artists...i wasn't about to have any of those...YUK...but my brother thought it would be cool for me to have some and some turned out to be not sooo bad!...My first record player was a 78RPM...you couldn't get records for it for my generations music (an you shoulda seen the size of the needles!)...but my Dad sure like playin his records on it...If I heard the Mills Brothers one more time...LOL...then I got one that had all four speeds...it folded up...you opened it up and the turntable came down and the speakers came off the ends...I was stylin then!! (I was probably as excited about that machine as when my kids got their IPODS!) I was probably 9 or 10 when I got my first record and have been JAMMIN ever since!

I just remembered, my first record was Rag Doll by The Four Seasons in 1964 when I was 13. I saved up babysitting money. My friend was going to the record store (remember those) and I wanted to buy something too. I didn't know what to get so asked my older brother. He liked that one so told me to get it. I stopped playing it after a couple of times, because I didn't like it. The Monkees were the first ones that I really liked.

The first single I ever bought was "Nights in White Satin" by the Moody Blues. It was 1967 release -- I was 9 or 10, a bit precocious! I had a crush on Justin Hayward for many years. lol

As youngest in the family I listened to alot of my older sister's records, and especially loved the whole Beatles collection that a friend lent us. Eventually they wanted 'em back, of course. So the first album I bought with my own babysitting money was "Sgt Pepper." It was in 1971, and I distinctly remember telling my mom "But Mom, I gotta have it now, the Beatles broke up a year ago -- they won't be selling these much longer!" Don't know how she kept from laughing, but she did let me buy it.

We were planning a High School dance, about 1943, and they needed some records, so I got one ... I don't know the artist, but I think that it was , "I'm beginning to see the light".

They say that the memory of music and of odours are close to the nostalgia segment of our brains.

Various smells, e.g. new-mown hay, for me, take us back to our childhood, as well.
