any 24-inch fridge owners happy with summit, blomberg, or LG?
Comments (37)Yeah their stuff was amazing - here's their coffee table that opens up to become a hi-fi and a TV projector: But anyway, there's an estalished "grey market" in selling items intended for sale in foreign contries in the US by companies other than the company's authorized US distributor. It's completely legal, and it's how many of us bought our cameras in the '70s through '90s, but you can expect the manufacturer's warranty won't be honored in the US, so you'd have to haul the thing back to Canada to get LG to pay for repairs the first year. After that, since it uses virtully the same parts as a fridge that was sold for many years in the US, finding someone who can repair it, even authorized LG service agents, should be easy. Companies never like grey-market imports taking business away from their chosen importers, so don't expect LG to give you the green light. Instead, call an appliance store near the border, ask them to look at the placard inside the door (or in the use & care or installation manual) and see if there's any reference to American service addresses, phone numbers, or at least UL certification. Some will have US yellow "EnergyGuide" stickers on them, often reversible to Canadian energy guides. you can probably find a dealer along the southern border willing to send one across state lines - especially smaller mom & pop independent shops that need every sale they can get and are less tied down with corporate-HQ policies to follow. If all else falls, plan a trip to Montreal or Toronto - plenty of interesting things to do there besides scoping out exotic appliances.... just bring a truck, van, SUV, or some wagons large enough to hold a boxed fridge, probably on its side....See MoreBosch Nexxt 500 or LG WM 0462 or 2227?
Comments (12)FROM DROSS: "rdw07, The Bosch is not a step down from either the LG or Duet - arguably the opposite is the case - but if you already have an LG on order, and are *also* getting a good deal on the LG, why the sudden change of heart? Is the Bosch much less than the LG? (In which case you should certainly consider a change to the Bosch, unless you are stacking or machine appearance is important - the Bosch NeXXt fails on both counts.) - DR" Thanks for the input dross and all. I had a "good deal" on the LG 2688 but it was just too much $$ for us despite being a good price for the machine. We decided to go with the WM0462 instead. Unfortunately, Best Buy did not have the lower (7") pedestals needed for thr 0462. In calling around to find the pedestals, I found a local place that also sells LG's - the owner recommended I consider Bosch as well. (so not really a change of heart as much as an opportunity to reconsider - his concern was part availabilty for the LG) Since I knew my LG order (from Best Buy) was going to change no matter what (they had ordered us 15" pedestals which wouldn't allow me to reach the controls on the 0462) - I needed to decide whether to stick with the LG or consider the Bosch. At the end of the day, I need a washing machine ASAP - had already agreed with Dh on the LG - and wasn't really ready to throw something else into the mix. The Bosch might have come out less $$ after rebates (never got a chance to fully flesh it out) - but we stuck it out with the machine we knew we liked (including the looks) At the end of the day - I got a GREAT deal on the WM 0462 - including properly sized pedestals - from a local place that will handle installation and service in house - all in all, a good situation (I hope :)) Thanks for the advice all!...See MoreLG wm1335w & dlec855w compact FL
Comments (14)Hi Guys! Great conversation! I too, am limited to a depth of about 26.5" (unless I do some renovation) so I'm looking at the GE DCVH480EKWW [which is vented] and the LG DLEC855W [condenser]. I will also be purchasing the matching washers. Both stacked-units get pretty similar reviews at BestBuy, HomeDepot, and AJ Madison- so I should go for the VENTED (GE) set, right? Because vented is simpler and more effective than Condenser-dryer, right? Last question: I was surprised to find that this thread was from 2010. It's 2015 and we're still talking about the same models. I'm concerned that I'm going to purchase these and there will be that big leap in technology that happens every 5 years or so and I'll regret buying them now. Please share your thoughts and ideas. Thanks!...See MoreNeed help choosing FL Washer/Dryer, Bosch 800, Samsung, LG ?
Comments (14)mysteryclock I just had my Axxis dryer fixed once and for all. What an ordeal. Really would have been easy if I got the right repairman right off the bat. I've been all over this forum trying to figure out what has been up with my machine. I knew it wasn't right. It just took forever to dry and then eventually i kept getting this huge puddle of water under the machine after a while. It was drying sometimes and acting funny at others. Ultimately after 4 service calls and replacing all the parts on the entire dryer, it turned out to be the heater. For anyone with a condensation dryer, i cannot stress this enough- get your machine checked once in a while. I had 4 blissful years with it and it was telling me gently that something was wrong by slowly wigging out. If i would have had it looked at when it was just acting weird, I would have had to replace far less! I got a GREAT Bosch tech, who i would highly recommend to anyone in the LA/Pasadena area. It took me a while to find him but he fixed the problem in less than an hour once he diagnosed it. If anyone wants to have their Bosch or other German appliance fixed, call Ricky at Appliance Masters. I've heard some of their techs are not so hot. This guy was a senior tech and he was the best. After all the drama with this machine and service call after service call, i'd say this guy has a halo and angel wings! He fixed it in less than a hour once the parts were ordered. These high end German appliances are great unless something is off. I have had probably 5 repairmen with my various German appliances in the last 6 months. All of the good ones said the same thing- great appliances unless you are having a problem with them. I guess the moral of the story is- it's better to pay a bit to maintain and get check ups once in a while rather than wait until the machine goes up in flames or in my case out in a puddle of vaguely warm water. All it needed was a new heater, not a complete overhaul, which i wound up with anyway. In my house full of Gaggenau, Liebherr and Bosch, call me converted. I'm going to get these insanely expensive appliances looked at frequently so they stay calibrated. It seems to make all the difference in the world. I'm humbled and feel kind of bad that this was such a colossal headache. I still love my washer and dryer. It's the best purchase I've made, with a close second being the Gaggenau dishwasher. I love me some German appliances!!...See Moretightspace
