Any Rooms Papered with Gertrude's Plaid by Scalamandre, in Red?

Trying to decide on a wallpaper for newly remodeled laundry room, top three choices are:

1. Gertrude's Plaid (white, pink and red big chunky plaid)

2. Oriental toile (red, white and black, Thibaut)

3. Gallery Gardens (bamboo pattern on yellow background, mfg Carleton Varney)

Does anyone have any of the above papers in their homes who would be willing to post a photo? I really like them all---

Our laundry room is adjacent to the dining room (what, you say? I said the same when we first looked at the house---whose idea was THAT?) so I have smartened it up in order to leave the door open. It is directly across the hall from the kitchen, so we made it into a sort of laundry cum butler's pantry. I had built ins put in that are the only thing visible when you walk by the door, the shelves hold all manner of vases---glass, ceramic, silver, etc., so it looks pretty. (Also makes vases accessible) Cabinetry white to match kitchen, black granite countertops, beadboard backsplash, undercounter w/d, etc., etc., like every other one but I was out of new ideas and it does look fresh. We had heart pine on floor and good molding and fenestration already. Put in deep stainless sink with commercial sprayer that has proved incredibly handy---for everything from washing a dog to washing extra dishes with that sprayer during a party when we needed more buffet plates in a hurry!

If anyone has any of the above papers, please weigh in--hopefully with photos. Thanks in advance-

ps no idea why these photos are so big! Pictures taken shortly after construction, since then have painted room with Laura Ashley apple green, but it is just boring and needs a wow factor... especially since it is right next to a really nice room :)

No experience with options 1 or 3, but I have had Thibaut papers, absolutely gorgeous and pure class. The Oriental Toile is beautiful.

Well your laundry room is lovely! I only know the first two of your wallpaper choices and I love them both. When I feel I can afford it our master bedroom will be wallpapered with a red on cream oriental pastoral toile -- our window panels, bedskirt and headboard are already in a large scale red / cream check, similar to your Gertrude's Plaid. So you can see why I'm esp. excited by your choices!

So no images of the papers in use, but just for impact I'm leaning toward your Thibaut Oriental Toile for your laundry -- it's an incredible graphic! Although you can't go wrong with any of them. Wow. (and I know you didn't ask for an opinion -- I just couldn't resist)

My goal for 2013 is to finish our laundry room. Ever since we purchased this house (3.5+ years ago) my vision for it has been to paint the walls a huge scale coral gingham. The new floor goes in next week (!!!) and then I've given myself a few years to smoothcoat the walls, paint them and the oak cabinets.

And I want to tell you you really have been such an inspiration to me. In our spare room in the basement we have rows and rows of those metal racks (what are they called?), inspired by your incredible organization of your xmas decorations. Alas, ours are not neat and tidy like yours, but at least they're on racks, visible and accessible and organized. I owe it all to you! I really do.

I hope you had a wonderful dinner party, and I am excited to watch the progress of your laundry room. Those papers are terrific!

The black and whites are pictures from our travels and I like them. I'd actually prefer to add another two where the red painting is and shift the red painting to another wall, but DH has put his foot down - he likes that wall as is. mtnrdredux - you remember right! It actually looks really good in the listing picture and looked much less good in person. The wall paper was relatively inoffensive, but textured and impossible to either remove or paint, the carpet was red (and filthy) and the ceiling was red plaid. By the time the house had sat vacant for a while it really was starting to look sorry for itself. Absurdly flattering listing pic: When we were looking at the house.

Thanks for all these kind comments! Tina, those parsons chairs came right out of my home office. I have been using that fabric for years---- it's a diagonally running band along the bottom edge of the Laura. Ashley toile dust ruffle on our bed . . . My chair at the bedroom secretary is upholstered in it, and I have a parsons chair upholstered with it in my closet! It's my neutral :). Am going to get another parsons chair in this so I will have four matching ones in case we someday end up in a house with a round breakfast table that needs them. I have used the material since it was first introduced in a Ballard catalog in the late 90's, I think. The cushions on the kitchen chairs will be a small design box cushion piped in the plaid with thin plaid ties.

Thanks for the responses! I'm sorry the example pic is so terrible. It's just a pic I found on the web and not my mom's Christmas table, I swear. Sue and Yayagal, those are the two colors I thought of right away! Glad to know I'm thinking in the right direction. Fun, love your suggestions about scrapbook paper. I know that will definitely help my mom with visualizing a color. And I really like the fabric idea too. I'm hoping I can convince my mom that the old red and cream buffalo check cafe curtains have had their day and fabric behind the dishware would bring nice texture back in the room. I will try to get a picture this weekend when I go visit her. She lives two hours away and is not computer savvy. I wanted to get some direction before I went so that we could get started. My youngest brother is moving out this month (he bought the house next door....we joke that one day he will leave the block!), so it will be just she and my dad for the first time in 35 years. She is going to downsize the big table in the middle of the room (she still has a large table in the DR for family gatherings) for a smaller breakfast nook in the corner by the windows and put a moveable island in its place.

My mother used a smaller, two-layer Whitman's box as a sewing box. It had a lot of little cardboard compartments. As decor, I could see this as the start of a collection. Keep on the lookout for other pretty boxes that you like and when you have enough, display them on a shelf in the kitchen. I like luckygals' idea of spraying it to preserve it. I have a huge tin box that once held Walker's shortbread. It is mostly red plaid, with a bit of Christmas decoration on it. During the year, it holds some Christmas stuff and acts as storage. This time of year, it gets dusted off and filled with old ornaments and acts as a big decoration. It's also used to transport large numbers of Christmas cookies to parties. But it was far too good-looking to throw out.

rmkitchen, what a nice thing to say! I am still so proud of that basement organization, it does make Christmas so much easier. This year I am having my son and his friend put everything away from Christmas .... they have helped in years past and are now ready (and able, because of how clearly it is all marked) to take it on themselves. The dinner party was a great success, thank heavens. Champagne cocktails for about 45 minutes with the hors d'oeuvres is a no-fail, good start for a party. We had a few non-drinkers and I made the same drinks with Martinelli's sparkling apple juice and these drew rave reviews as well. Centerpiece was lovely, I used a white cloth and a green velvet runner bordered in red sort of scrunshed up artistically, with three white and gold deer arranged on it and two very large (18" and 24") crystal candlesticks with big fat Root candles. And three dimensional "confetti" consisting of small red resin berries and green holly leaves scattered about on the table. It was lovely and very quiet, a classic look that I loved and people were able to talk over the deer and see through the candlesticks, so it was All Good :) Some of the nutcrackers went up on top of the library shelves, it was a brilliant idea (not mine!)

Like you I am a toile-lover from way back. "Use it often and everywhere" is my motto :) We have toile in my daughter's room (blue and white), a toile bedskirt in our bedroom (bordered with a medium check on the diagonal), toile pillows in the living room and toile chair pads in the kitchen, and a chinoiserie toile in one bathroom, so what's one more paper in the laundry?

I have decided on the Thibaut oriental toile for the laundry but have a great place for the plaid---in the kitchen. Our french country chairs have been so abused the stretchers at bottom keep popping out (must not have been very well made to begin with) but it seems I am always having a chair out being repaired, so I have decided to get new chairs. I am leaning towards the Chinese chippendale style with upholstered seats, and think the plaid would be fabulous in there, esp. if the chairs are painted red or cream. So I will manage to use at least two of the three patterns.

Patty, I am glad you have had good experiences with Thibaut also, I think they have very nice quality and our paperhanger likes it because it is not prepasted. I wanted to use the Thibaut paper "Chinese Laundry," which I thought would be a clever joke for the laundry room (it is not really for laundry rooms, and the one I wanted was foil) but designer put his feet down on that immediately. I trust his judgment and submitted meekly :)

If anyone sees this post and has either paper to display, please do! Just because I have decided which one to use doesn't mean I don't need to see more...
