I set the width/height to 0.25, with two squares equalling one inch, and away I went. It meant dinner last night was about three hours later than usual, as I couldn't tear myself away from it, but all in the name of the cause. It's sooo much easier than my ruler-and-rubber method, and I don't have to worry about being "green" in my kitchen materials, as this step alone has saved about 600 trees. Thank you!! Of course, this works only for 2-D renderings, but I can deal with that for now. Intrigued by your trajectory, igloochic ... sounds like something I would (and still might) do, starting with the BH&G package. It's like a self-given dare, isn't it? Yes, that's a pullout faucet, the Kohler Fairfax pullout in brushed nickel. The sink is the Kohler sink Owls4Me linked (but I paid about $150 less for it at EXPO last year). I wanted a pullout faucet b/c I wanted a lower profile than a pulldown because: (1) there's a cabinet above part of the sink, (2) there's seating & I wanted to reduce splashing, and (3) I didn't want it to be a "focal point" on the peninsula. It turns out it's much better for filling pots & fish buckets. I just put the pot or bucket on the counter, hook the faucet head on the edge of the pot/bucket, and let it fill. The fish bucket in particular gets too heavy (5 gallons) to lift up out of the sink and then down. I'd rather just slide it off the counter and down. The sink base is a 36" corner sink base...even stock cabinet lines have them. It wasn't a special order cabinet. If he's charging you more for the angle, then I assume he would do the same for any corner cabinet w/the angle instead of the 90o cut (like a lazy susan cabinet)? I can't imagine it would cost that much more....unless he doesn't want to do it and this is his way of discouraging you... As a matter of fact, I'd think the sink base would cost less than a lazy susan cabinet since it doesn't need the curved wall to surround the shelves and it doesn't need the hardware for inside. ++++++++++ Space to open a refrigerator b/w the end of the peninsula and the refrigerator...what a luxury! LOL! I have 33" b/w mine. It was supposed to be 42", which I think is probably plenty, but due to the infamous measuring errors + outside venting issues, I ended up w/33". Yes, it's enough room to open & stand in front of (and nice & close for staging groceries for putting in the refrigerator!), but no one can easily pass by while the refrigerator is open. Luckily, the refrigerator is one appliance that's not open for very long. Getting to the point...5' is more than enough...if you want more peninsula length, you could decrease the aisle to 48" and still allow someone to pass by.

The lowers are drawn at 24" but I think we can get an inch or two more, as we don't need such a big gap by the old O'Keefe & Merritt. I'd like pan pullouts like JoyGreenwald's. I'm hoping to fit in two if we move one over for small pans. I've fretted about butt-space at the fridge too. It's a 36" aisle and french doors will help, but I hadn't considered the freezer. Back to the appliance store go I, which'll give me a chance to ask about the new (and cheaper!) Fisher & Paykel integrated unit too. Matt--I'm thinking prep will be to the right of the sink and around the peninsula too. Trash and compost are planned for under the sink, recycling under the second sink, and the cabinet in the corner hadn't even registered in my head. I guess that could be a corner pullout or mixer lift there. It's a skinnier cabinet, so less real estate for the mixer. I'll have to consider your appliance garage point. I like the current look, and the drawers for junk and chargers, as well as cubby for on old rotary phone, are good. Maybe brackets (corbels?) would open the counter better with a similar feel. As for the microwave, the cost of the drawers galls me, but they sure look better ergonomically. Funky--Stools were a previous, and now discarded, thought. The peninsula will be standard depth and all storage/microwave. Also, the shelves by the range need to be raised, and I'm debating whether the 36" pantry/broom closet should be 50-50 or 24" pantry and 12" broom. First world problems.

Frankly I'm no fan of a U shaped kitchen because two corners are one extra useless corner. Working off of Mama's excellent plan, I turned it into an L shape. 1. I moved the fridge to the opposite side. The reason I did so is your mudroom and your pantry are on that side. Coming in with groceries would mean lots of steps back and forth to put foodstuff away if your fridge is so far from the pantry. The same holds true when grabbing food to make a meal. Great exercise but really do you want to walk across your kitchen to get stuff from the pantry and then back again across the kitchen to get stuff from your fridge? 2. I moved the microwave shelf to that side too. I did it since it's closer to the fridge and it's out of the cooking zone. 3. I widened your island. 4. I added a 42" dish drawer facing your dishwasher so it's easy unloading to your dish drawer. 5. I moved the trash drawers to next to the prep sink. You didn't mention if you plan on having a disposal unit in your sink? I have a prep sink and a cleanup sink and put a disposal unit in both. They're not too expensive and I felt it was well worth it. I'm also planning on putting a small trash can UNDER my clean up sink. Most trash is generated by the prep area, so the trash under the clean up sink is only for the occasional food stuff that can't go down the disposal. 6. Next to your air return, I added narrow shelving. This can be open or closed and is good for storing stuff one can deep, so would be good for stuff you use more frequently like cereals, etc. One other thing I noticed not related to your kitchen but your pantry/powder room. You don't want the door to your powder room opening into the powder room because think of how you will need to be a contortionist to try and get around the door to use the toilet. Get a pocket door or have the door swing out. Additionally I would not angle the corner where the sink is in there as it will feel quite congested as it's a small room already. The space out of the pantry is minimal but will make the powder room feel larger.
