They do not read early 20th century because nothing like that existed in the early 20th century! If you like them, then I say go for it! :)

It doesn't read craftsman at all to me. It reads deco inspired. I have never seen a spout with that particular shape in old faucets so it doesn't read like it's an antique or anything. Also the shape of the cross handles are not what you would have found back in the day too. Not sure if that helps or hurts :). I wouldn't put it in my period style bathroom though.

oceanna, the room doesn't exist yet, but it's a kids' bath and it's going to be basically in birch -- the sinkbase from Ikea with a large square drop-in sink and silestone Ivory coast replacing the wood top, floor probably Tarkett fiberfloor (second floor and don't know if we could tile up there, since there's vinyl there now--also pretty *remodeled out*, since we've been doing it for 4 years now...) in the Organza retro gold pattern:

Thanks, jerseygirl :). It is odd--the ad copy and Sottini website have it as "Mission" but I think it's a bit fancied-up for that (with the facets and all). Sorry about the 4" spread -- it's a closeout, I think, since I couldn't find the line mentioned on the American Standard website.

I forgot to mention that the blue on the wall is a continuation of the what will be the color in her bedroom.

I like the faceting on it--it's a little frivolous :) (I'm usually a very clean-lined kinda girl--we have Jado glance knockoffs in our master bath) and works with the light fixture, I hope...

more in the budget find dept: The lighting fixture we actually found at the local ReBuilding Center for $10, and it was brand-new :)

Looking at just the faucet I thought it looked Deco-inspired. Seeing it on a craftsman vanity, I think it looks Craftsman. So, I guess it is either. Or both. I think it could work in a lot of different bathrooms.

Flyleft, thanks for the link to your sink base because it's my favorite, and I didn't even know that IKEA still carried that one. Very sturdy and good-looking, and you can't beat the price.

We used it in our upstairs family bath several years ago, with a different top and a vintage sink and an old American Standard faucet very similar to yours but smaller. The facets sort of matched the shape of the sink.

Something we did to keep the end grain of the wooden legs from touching the floor, to prevent water damage from mopping and slopping: Our contractor cut a piece of floor tile the size and shape of the end of the legs and attached it to the bottom of the legs and to the floor, maybe with caulk? You didn't notice the tile because the stainless shield things dropped down to it.

The faucet and sink base (Ikea one labeled "bench," correct?) seem to work well together, but not with the light. The light fixture seems to be the odd man out. I'm okay with birch and chrome and stainless, but the addition of crystal starts taking it in a different, more elegant direction.

When doing our guest bath I found it exceedingly difficult to design around a style-specific light fixture. I focused on making the sink and faucet jive together, especially since they are attached. When I made the lighting secondary and more design-neutral, it was much easier.

Both your light and faucet are style-specific, even as difficult as it is to define the faucet's style :). They seem to clash more than harmonize with one another.

wooderlander--what a coincidence! (got the sinkbase in AsIs --there was literally no problem with it--it was when the Ikea in our area had just opened and they were putting *all* the returns in AsIs) We're using a vintage sink too :) Did your faucet by any chance go *straight* down? I'm drawn usually to faucets that aim out a bit, not straight down...that's my last little issue with this guy before I buy him...(and why do I always think of faucets as "he"? hmmm :))

The idea about the floor--I'm still trying to think it through and visualize it. I bet it will be great when I figure it out--thanks :)

If you have a spec sheet for the faucet and for the sink: You want to make sure the spout reach is such that she won't be banging her fingertips against the back of the sink. (DH and I made a wooden mock up of the Grohe faucet before purchase, lol. I wanted to be sure.)

I like a spout that releases water on the porcelain part of the sink, not on the sink pop up.

Wonder why the faucet description says "metal" handles--maybe to distinguish from plastic? Hopefully, they are still chrome.

Yes, I didn't get that either. I wish I'd heard of how the Sottini line is positioned wrt American Standard...

Even seeing it on a craftsman vanity, it doesn't look craftsman to me. IMO something that has a "machine aged" ie deco look to it is the antithesis of craftsman. Now when the craftsman movement was happening, there were many fewer choices in faucet for the mainstream so I'm sure regular off the shelf type faucets that look similar to that would have been chosen to go in homes, but in general I think of something being craftsman that has a warm, hand wrought type finish to it when you're talking about decorating in that style today. There is something of a classic read to that faucet that can work well in a lot of places though.

I agree about the light fixture. It's cool and funky and looks like it has giant ice cubes for shades but it doesn't seem to go with the rest of what you've picked out.

I think it would look perfect with the shape of the sink. If the faucet measurements fit the sink, I'd say go for it!

fly -- stylewise it looks like the faucet on the sink my neighbors took out when they reno'd, which was from the 40s.

But that doesn't mean it won't look good with another style or that whatever the mfgr is calling it is accurate.

Only thing with faucet straight down is that I'd be sure it lines up perfectly with the sink drain, as someone else suggested.

mqmoi and rococo and organic, after a lot of searching I finally found a spec drawing of it not on the company's site but on a liquidation auction site! (it's definitely a discontinued item) It's a fine length--5-1/8"--comes out the same length as the faucet that is in the sink already (it's a salvage vintage sink, but the faucet has the wrong color wood on the handles so we can't keep it). I ordered it last night. :)

kgwlisa, I agree about the machine-age-deco look but drat...I really like them together...the flooring and the light really go well, IMO, and the flooring and the faucet and furniture go well too, but is it the clean faceting of the faucet vs. the giant-ice-cube effect of the light that is the problem? It really doesn't read "crystal" as in formal chandelier, it's just three big ice cubes (and there are clean angles on the support area)...I'm not ready to bid it adieu yet...When everything is assembled here I'll see it and if I *have* to, I'll sell it. *sigh* It's so great--I don't know why I love it so much but I do. It's really heavy. But things do have to go together...

rococo, things are coming along, but *very* slowly. Even I have hit my remodel-limit. DD's bath is still completely in the future--it won't be anywhere near as hard as the downstairs, but it's still Another Project...

We had very similar faucets in the early 1950s.

So that settles it: it ain' only craftsman :)
