Can I switch locations for cold air return and heat vent?

My cold air return is in the center of my kitchen on the floor and the heat/air duct for forced air system is on a wall nearby (about 4-5 feet). The spot with the heat vent is where I want to move my refrigerator but it pretty much blocks the vent. I'm trying out having the frig here because it really is the best place (I've been living with it in a not so ideal spot but after the granite guy asked where it was, it made me start thinking it really should be where it is now so I decided to try it--and I like it. A lot.) In this tryout period I've got it pulled away from the wall about 6 inches, but it should be closer, but that really would block the vent. Two options as I can think of. 1. Move the vent up in the wall where it is (if that's possible), or 2. Put the heat/air vent in the floor where the cold air return is and move the cold air return up on the wall where the heat vent is now. Then I could move the frig against the wall, which would improve traffic flow around it.
