i have a garmin nuvi 205. what i do is plug in the addresses, which are stored until i delete them, and then go to my first destination. i can then hit the "recently found" (which are the addresses i've plugged in) and it takes me to my next destination.

GPS - what a great thing to have!

good luck

My GPS is a Magellan RoadMate 2000 and only does one at a time. I do the same thing - put destinations in and save them then go from one to another. Since I save most all addresses I enter, the recent list and address list are pretty much the same for me.

One thing that might work for you is a mapping software. I like Microsoft Streets & Trips though I hate to admit to "liking" anything associated with the one whose name must not be said. You can make a spreadsheet of the addresses you want to visit. Then you can import that list of addresses from the spreadsheet into Streets & Trips very easily. It will find the addresses and plan a route. You can even have it optimize the route for you. You could print out maps if you like or you could use that list to enter into the GPS to use it to assist you.

Multiple trees, single planting hole -- yeas and nays?

I got a surprise last year when picking apples from a tree my grandfather planted at least 40 years ago. I didn't bother to spray it or anything, as it needs a few years of pruning to bring it back. The few apples I got that were edible were yummy from one side of the tree, yet the apples from the other side were definitely not "eat off the tree" apples. When I took a closer look I realized that the bark on one side was completely different from the other side. Apparently my grandfather was practicing this method a generation ago. The other apple tree on the property was similar but the trunks had not inculcated and one of the two died due to neglect. I will try to send a picture, but it's really nothing spectacular. If you plant them close enough I guess they become one trunk. If I end up cutting it down I will definitely be able to see if these were once two trees(or more). There is crab apple near my house that looks like one tree, but last year I noticed that the blooms were quite different on each main branch. I doubt that this is a multi-graft crab apple. I am now assuming that the closer you plant them the better so they simply inculcate.

Multiple problems with Briggs 12.5 hp motor on lawnmower

Had to use a gear puller to get the flywheel off - it came off just fine. The (plastic) gear on the flywheel had been chewed off - there was about 3" of mostly intact teeth on it - not enough to catch enough to spin it to start though. That was problem #1. Shopped around on Saturday looking for a ring gear. No one had one in stock. Found a local guy who had spare parts from other mowers & found a used flywheel with an aluminum ring gear on it. Cleaned it up & got ready to put onto my mower & noticed something wasn't right with the crankshaft. I hadn't noticed when I pulled the flywheel off that the centering tip on the gear puller I used had wedged itself into the top of the crankshaft. It would turn freely, but would NOT come out. After several hours yesterday of trying everything else, I was able to drill through it & eventually pop it out. Miraculously, the crankshaft threads were not ruined. After that, was able to install the flywheel with the aluminum ring gear. Also on Saturday, looking at the starter more closely, there was a "burr" on the threads of the plastic clutch, I suppose where it wasn't being released & staying engaged with the flywheel earlier. I was able to take the starter & spin it by hand and was able to make the gear stick at the top every time. I bought (another) clutch kit, this time with a metal gear & replaced it. Unlike before, this time I took steel wool to the starter shaft & shined it, then used lithium grease on it the inside of it. Put everything back together & then shot WD40 on the outside of the gear. With this, the gear returns each time, not sticking like the previous one (so far). Before my original post, I had tried to crank the mower. I turned on the fuel shut off & tried to crank it & eventually gave up. I turned the fuel off when I stopped, but wasn't able to empty what was in the carb since I couldn't get it to start. (Since I had problems earlier, I put the shut off valve in. Other than this time, I never turn the mower off - I cut the fuel off & let it run out of fuel). Once I got things back together, I tried to crank the mower. As soon as I turned the shut off valve to ON & tried to crank it (would not fire), I heard the glug-glug-glug-glug of the crankcase filling with fuel. Sure enough, oil level was about 1/2" higher than what I knew it was before trying to start it last week. I haven't rebuilt the carb, but replaced the float & needle when it had this issue the first time. This was the 3rd or 4th time this has happened. It happened the first time earlier this year when I was trying to fix it up for use after it having had sat for several years. I'm not 100% sure, but the fuel tank (gravity fed to carb) looked really empty before I put gas in it before trying to start last week. I added about 1/2 tank of gas. I use Sta-Bil in it & the stored gas which is about 3-4 weeks old now (I purposely ran it low the last time I used it). I wouldn't have run the tank dry, so I'm assuming the shut off didn't do it's thing. In reading about some of these engines (mine is a Briggs & Stratton 12.5 HP I/C Quiet, model 28m707-0178-01), I see numerous reports of the same issue. Even though I see that a complete rebuild appears to address the problem, I'm not sure how that is ever more than one failed start or not allowing the carb to run dry to reoccur. I'm sure that the ethanol is the culprit, but haven't yet found a source for "real" unleaded gasoline. Is there a reliable solution for using gas with ethanol? Also, given my most recent self-induced repair, I'm not sure I want to touch the carb.... ;-)

Garmin GPS......which one to buy?

I just sprung for the top-line (Prestige) 3597 LMT/HD, my third Garmin. It's not exorbitantly expensive, about $275 from NewEgg. It's a substantial improvement over my old one, which was a higher-end unit from 2 years ago. The new one is the same size, 5" widescreen, though is much thinner and has a much higher resolution screen with a more responsive touch surface, as well as voice recognition I haven't tried out yet. It takes much less time to sniff out the needed satellites when starting a new drive. Like my old one, you get lifetime map updates and traffic service. Unlike the old one, the traffic service is HD digital and provides warnings much faster and more aquarately than the old system, which didn't caclulate slowdows on sidestreets caused by satnav receivers sending drivers onto those small roads, and often didn't pick up on traffic on side roads in the first place. The lane-assistance is excellent - it will open a second window showing which lanes you can be in at tricky interchanges, with spoken instructions like "stay in the 2nd or 3rd lane from the right". Turns are tied to obvious landmarks and traffic lights, not just street names (or worse) just distances. So it will say "turn right at the traffic light after the McDonalds" about ten seconds before your turn, not "turn right on McLadden Ave." which may or may not have an easy-to-find sign, or "turn right in 500 feet" which leaves you wondering which of two nearby entrances is 500 and not 400 or 600 feet away. If there's a particular neighborhood or area you never want to be routed through, you can set it to always avoid that area. It has a Bluetooth link that will tell your Apple or Android device where you were when the car was shut down, so if you forget where you park, you can find it on your phone or tablet; even an iPod Touch will work since you'll need only to dip into someplace with wi-fi to get a map back to where you parked, even though there was no wi-fi signal at the parking space. The Bluetooth can also be used for hands-free calling over the speaker. It's able to warn you of school zones and such, though I haven't figured out how to enable it yet, or maybe that's one of the extra-cost apps. It's not perfect - it still doesn't know the existence of a nearby road half a block from home and tries to route me way around it. It couldn't find the Costco I just went to or the street it's on (it's been there for two years). It also couldn't find the gym/pool I go to, perhaps because it recently changed its name, but neither the old or new name could be found. At least it knew the address. The internal voice isn't as human-sounding as it was on my previous satnav. The included, reusable mount sticks to windows but not the top of my dashboard, and any windshield attachment in my car blocks the forward view a bit. Despite these flaws, its strong points overwhelm them, and it's the best GPS navigator i've ever used, including those built into cars or phones. Finally, here's why I'm not using a smartphone for navigation: First off, most of our carriers charge for data usage. The GPS receiver doesn't use data itself, but tying it to where you are using Google Maps or Foursquare or whatever does, unless you run a usually 3rd-party app like Co-Pilot that downloads the entire area's maps onto your phone (which cuts into your phone's storage and adds complexity). The interface isn't as straightforward as on a good dedicated GPS. But mainly, I want to be able to use a smartphone as a *phone* when needed, sometimes passing it to a passenger for private conversation during a call. I don't want incoming and outgoing phone calls, or changing a musical selection, interfering with navigation. I want my maps and directions always to be there. I have a Nuvi 650 and it will do multiple stops. I love to be able to put in the addresses of places I want to go while on vacation. It is also easy to put addresses in while on a trip.
