What can I put in my septic tank?
Comments (37)I wrote to Damn asking them if their product dissolves grease when I add it to hot water and flush it down my drain to the septic tank (basically) and here was their response: I wish we could help, but Dawn has not been tested for the purpose of rinsing grease down the drain. Because it hasn't been tested for this use, we have no data to claim whether using Dawn and hot water to flush grease down the drain will be safe for a septic system or not. Thanks for writing. Karen Dawn Team I thought that was interesting given the fact that they say: Dawn gets grease out of the way, breaks up and dissolves grease fast. from their website: Since Dawn was invented in 1973, Dawn dish liquid has been known for superior grease-fighting power. It's so effective on dishes, pots and pans, that over the years, consumers have found many uses for Dawn around their homes. Animal rescuers have even discovered that it's a great way to remove grease from animals in oil spill cleanups. As a result, Dawn has helped conservation organizations save thousands of animals for over 35 years. Today, Dawn has grown into an international family of dishwashing liquids dedicated to innovation and answering consumers' ever-changing needs. SO I guess they back it up in all ways except the septic tank. LOL...See MoreLiquid vs dry detergent
Comments (31)Hi All, I used to use powder until an appliance repairman had to come to my house to fix a maytag neptune. That's another sad story. Believe me they are never lonely now. Anyhow, the repairman told me that it's better to use liquid because it mixes with the water faster and works on your clothes longer. I have hard water so I can't say that I noticed any difference in cleaning ability. To prevent the build up problem, I just put the soap right in the washer while I'm loading. I must say that I love the more concentrated detergents. They are really much easier on the back and shoulder which is important to me. When I was in high school I had a Chemistry teacher that had retired from Proctor and Gambel in the 1960s. He told our class that at that time customers equated cleanliness with suds, lots of suds. Unfortunately, phosphates were used to make the suds. I'm looking forward to the day I only have to use a tablespoon of soap to do the clothes. Does anyone know if there is an additive that you can add to the wash water that really softens the wash water?...See MoreJust made a batch of powder detergent
Comments (7)Well I have no clue if he is right or not, but it sure sounds right to me. #1. Liquid contains water, mostly water. #2. He said powder contains "grains" which will scrub your clothes better than a liquid. #3. Liquids have more chemicals in them than powder, to help them stay "liquid". #4. Liquid soaps don't have the softeners necessary for a good soap. Softeners are powder form according to him. Now IMO I don't like liquids for whites, they always looking dingy or still dirty to me. Usually, NOT always, any undissolved powdered soap left behind is from either, too much soap, a load of clothes that is too full with no room to circulate and get the soap dissolved, low water pressure so that the soap doesn't get much water to dissolve, or some powders dont' always dissolve in cold water. My DD's love liquid soap, I think its a pain and not worth it. Of course it could be from living with my DH and listening to him for years and years! LOL...See Moremulti-flo septic tank
Comments (2)i am not familiar with that tank, but if your septic tank back up at any point, your have a problem. it should flow right out into the field, not back up the lid. not sure how big that cut out should be, did you ask them when they pumped the tank? prior to my replacing a section of my line to my septic, as well as pumping the tank and installing a Tee on the output, if we did more than 2 loads in a day it would back up in the yard. i still have a few problems with a couple of clogged discharge lines, but those are fine to wait until this spring when i have the time/money to fix them....See Morecuriousshopper
