Does Anyone Have a 'Laundry Lift'?

I'm intrigued by the 'Laundry Lift', but have never actually seen one in the flesh. It seems to be very positively reviewed, but the venetian-blind-type system of raising and lowering it looks challenging.

It would be a great 'green' addition for the small 2nd floor laundry we're in the process of building. That is, unless it's more trouble than it's worth, and ends up being 3-D ceiling art!

I bought one, had my husband install it (putting multiple holes in the ceiling) and then never could get it to work satisfactorily. Like a bad venetian blind, it was hard to get the thing to "catch", and then sometimes it would just let loose on it's own - even with nothing touching it. I thought it was a great idea but I had nothing but trouble with it and took it down within a week.

Now I've got multiple holes in my ceiling that drive me crazy. I'm going to have to get the ceiling patched and repainted. Ugh.

I have a product made by Stewi of Switzerland. It has one long central arm and two "wings" come off of it. I can fold up the wings when there are no clothes on it. It was very important to me to be able to hang a lot of clothes AND get the lift out of the way for every day use (before, I used to have a gigantic clothes rack in our dining room!). Everyone who's seen it wants one.

(I am not sure if this link down here is to the same model as mine...it looks slightly different. But I'm sure I got Stewi, because I could not find anything American that did what I wanted!)

I found using homemade laundry detergent more expensive than Charlie's, and it didn't do as good a job. I eventually purchased the 5-gallon bucket, which cost me approx. 9-cents a load, about a year ago after using two of the 80-load bags. I was adding Cascade (dish washing powder - for it's enzymes) and Oxy Clean to the dry version to improve the cleaning action of the homemade detergent, and used 2-3 T. of the powder for a load of laundry. I also used either fabric softener or vinegar in the rinse because the clothing was stiff when line-dried - which equals even MORE expense. Now all I use is a tablespoon (or less) of Charlie's and I use vinegar in the rinse of the kitchen towels and the bath towels only, and probably don't even need it in them. I hang my laundry to dry either indoors or outdoors and the laundry is softer just using Charlie's than it was using homemade concoctions AND softener. So take into account ALL your laundry products that you use, not just the homemade detergent. With Charlie's, you may be able to eliminate everything else that you are using. -Grainlady

Lots of people do stupid things that don’t comply with design best practices. Like a 400 lb on top of a laundry set that needs to be pulled out and cleaned regularly. Or an incorrecyly sized standpipe subject yonivethlow because they didn’t want it to show above the washing machine. Or other very silly form over function decisions.

Does anyone have an action video of a mixer lift?

I’ve done that and it only shows the lift being moved up and down and not when the mixer is in use. There are no videos on YouTube I have found that show a real life kitchen set up (non-ad) using it with a mixer or any other appliance turned on. Several people have said there is a lot of shake if you are using the appliance on the lift and not moving it to the counter.

I bought a package of the laundry sheets for my daughter who was traveling up and down Europe last summer for a month or so. She didn't want to check baggage and only pack the minimum of clothing. I bought a different brand than the one you have pictured, but I bought it from Amazon. My daughter's review of the laundry sheets was that it was light and easy to pack and carry. They made sink hand washing easier than carrying pods, liquid or powder detergent around and didn't set off alarms at the numerous airports and customs centers she had to process through. The cleaning ability of the laundry sheets was "eh". She felt she would have of had cleaner hand washed clothes if she had packed a bar of Dr. Bronner's soap and washed her clothes with that instead. Anyhow, they certainly have their place in the world and serve that purpose, and for that, I would buy them again due to them being slim, light and not a pain to cart around. She left her remaining laundry sheets behind in London with a little note on them instructing what they were in case some other traveling student found a need for them.

@galleyette, these types of ceiling dryers are extremely popular among apartment dwellers in Europe, where tumble dryers are virtually unheard of and space is at a premium. In Poland, almost every apartment has one of those installed in the bathroom, over the bathtub. My parents have had one for years and I think it works very well. I was thinking about getting one when we lived in a condo here in the US, but then we bought a large house and now I have enough space to use a standing laundry rack.

I don't know anything about the particular brand you have linked but the general idea is definitely tested and works well.

I looked at a lot of ceiling dryers during our remodel, and there was really no contest: the good ones were from Europe, because Americans simply don't hang their laundry. (Since all of the clothes I've bought recently, from undies on up to jeans, ask for air drying, how is this possible? Is everyone else using their dryer on this stuff?)

I really wanted to get one like this traditional English drying rack, which would look really cool, but it took up too much space.
