Broke a bone in my foot :(

Yep, was working out Thursday morning doing some difficult Wii latin dance workout and felt great, I have bunions on both big toes that don't bother me, but after my big toe on my left foot was bothering me, so I thought that it was just overworked. Thurs, it was aching and swelling. I rested it and soaked it. Fri I woke up, whole foot on bottom was swollen and hard and the pain was so bad I was crying. I couldn't walk much Fri at all, didn't want to go to the DR. So kept resting it.. Finally Fri night I had been crying so much and couldn't walk my husband carried me to the car and made me go to the ER. Felt stupid and Dr did xrays and seems I broke the bone called the sesmoid bone on the ball of my foot. So now I am on a Bootcast and crutches...... and pain meds, this sucks.. and I hurt, but man I feel stupid lol next time I will do the workout in shoes I was barefooted and I know better...

So sorry you got hurt. Hope you feel better soon.
My foot Doc, said NEVER go wtihout shoes, now you can see why.
Now you can catch up on some tv or reading.

Oh ouch, Melanie, that has to be very painful! Did he give ou any idea of how long it will take to feel better?

Oh Jay, Sorry to here about your mishap. I broke a bone in my foot a couple of summers ago and I couldn't garden at all. I had everything planted, so I did harvest some tomatoes and peppers, but just had to let the weeds come. I was in a boot and since you only get one, you can't get it dirty. You can't crawl around because your foot can't bend. I have Harrington rods in my back from an earlier accident, so my back doesn't bend. I was a little 'robot-like' for the summer, but my foot healed fine. Take care of yourself and don't try to do too much....and don't expect your family to do their job and yours too. Let them help where they can, but let the rest go. There will likely be another summer to garden, if you take care of yourself.

If you're looking for solid green liriope, don't buy any, come get some at my house in Bowie!! Have you been to Collins' greenhouse on Old Rt. 450 (just over the bridge from 197)?? They have more annuals than perennials, but they have a nice selection and the prices aren't bad. Also, there is a farmstand/plantstand at the corner of Routes 450 and 424 in Davidsonville that has great veggies and lots of plants to choose from. And I haven't been there YET but there is a greenhouse/barn/farmstand just west of I-97's exit 12/New Cut Road in Millersville/GlenBurnie, I'm not sure exactly which town it's in.

Thanks all....I'm actually doing well and go back to the Dr. on Friday to make sure nothing has "shifted". I did have an eye opener today. I went grocery shopping with my husband and I rode the motorized cart while he pushed a normal cart. I have NO CLUE how people can shop with these motorized carts. You can't get close enough to the shelves with all the crap they have in the isles and you are only able to get foods that are on the next to bottom shelf...unless you actually stand up. I have a very new respect for people who have to shop alone and use an electric cart!! Have any of you used one? What did you think of the experience? Eileen

I have electric candles burning in every window of my house which greatly helps in the night time when I don't need to turn on lights to see. Maybe some of you might think of night lights or candles. I used to walk around my yard at night to check the ponds, but stopped doing it because I thought I could trip and fall in the pond or fall and break a leg and no one would know till morning. That happened to one of my friends walking her dog at 1AM in her yard. Her huge Mastiff knocked her over and she had a severe head injury lying in her yard till morning.

Ouch, ouch! i have a bunion on my left foot and i'm cautious about jumping up & down in exercise w/ it. what Wii game has latin dancing??? i have the Ea Active games which are wonderful! i hurt my elbow badly last summer and had to take a rest from exercise for a month then fell off the wagon, i need to get back on! hope you recover quick! ~ liz

Liz, it was a Golds Gym dance workout thing... I have used it before, but I have no rythm(sp) so I was trying my best lol, but I was in bare feet cause there are some workouts on there where I can use my balance board ... Yup I feel stupid lol.. trying to get myself into shape and I ended up breaking a bone lol...

Dr said it could take a few weeks but to definatly stay off of it for the next few days, so I am using crutches which are killing me and just sitting around is killing me cause I am so very very anal about my house and like it cleaned a specfic way, so even though I am appreciative to my dh for cleaning, its killing me not to get up and do something..I am just worried about work. I am only part time so I get 36 hrs a week, and I was out last week because of the weather, I live an hour away and the ice storms were really bad and I couldnt get to work.. then I am out now this week and next week I am off cause my DH is having Knee surgery.......sigh.. and to top it all off. I have no health insurance, because my ex took me off his and my dh's insurance would cost us 100.00 a week of his check. Being part time I don't get any. I don't qualify for medicaid or anything. I was in sooo much pain, they kind of looked at me weird like I was full of crap in the ER until they saw my BP which was 199/104. I said I told you I am in pain,thats why I am here and the tears are running down my face lol.. I have no bp problems... so I know its all pain.. I don't feel to bad today, but lucky me. on top of all this I know have PMS... so I need to put myself in a bubble so I am safe lol

Hey Melanie..same thing happened to me! I was doing the 'Electric Slide' at a beachfront place & as I stepped back-I felt this pain flash on the outer edge of my right foot. Same routine as you-xrays, boot cast, etal..for 5 weeks. Hated that darn boot!(Hasn't stopped me from dancing though but I am a little more careful-justa' little..tee hee By the way? I have the WORST feet on this earth (bunions, overlapping toes)-have been to 2 specialists and Tricare won't even refer me to anymore as I'm "inoperable". My big toe on each foot lies where one's middle toe is supposed to be. I am sure my leg aches & cramps & backaches are from the way I have to walk..favoring certain parts of my feet when I walk. Grrrr!
