Well, I guess I did it to myself!! I deleted Firefox, I was having so many problems with downloads because of it.
Is there any way to get rid of the ads without my downloading Firefox again?

Use Opera with content blocking or Chrome with Adblock. K-meleon will work too.

ok wait lets find out why you were having problems with downloads, firefox should not give you any type of problem with that. What was happening? what downloads? you can not do windows updates with firefox but pretty much everything else should work exactly the same and work well.
It is a good idea to figure out what was happening it may not be due to firefox.

I deleted Firefox, I was having so many problems........
I had been experiencing some problems with FF for about a month. It would just crash and close. After trying numerous things, I just deleted it off, and then downloaded it again. All is fine now. I'd suggest you downloading it again, as it doesn't take very long, even on my 'slower' connection.

I download a lot of graphics from a Yahoo site. Each time I wanted to save it or open it a window would pop up giving a diagram of the speed it was downloading. When it finished I would have to click on it to get the file I wanted. If it were an PSPx2 file that would open if it were an old 7 file that would open or an PSPX which is what I use. I would then have to copy to X or save to X. It just took up to much time to do it. Without Firefox I click to save and tell it where I want to save it and I'm done. I still have Firefox but not as my primary browser.

To me, that doesn't sound like a FF problem, but I don't know what is causing that problem.

Opera has issues with GW in that when threads have new (unread) posts, the color won't change to show it.

that is not a normal behavior of firefox, when I download a file it opens the regular dialog box that ask if I want to save it or run it, if I select save it then I can browse to select where to save it to, or you can go into firefox and tell it where to always save your download files to and you don't have to answer any of those questions it just downloads them to that location. I wonder if you have some add on that is causing that?

In firefox to set the default download location go to tools options on the main tab in the center there you can select that location.

I am not a fan of Chrome, had it, deleted it.

I don't have the problem after I deleted Firefox. The pop up I got had the fox and globe emblem on it.

I personally want to see the download progress so I know if something has a problem or is failing to download.

It's really a personal preference. I like the speed and ability to personalize Opera the best of any I've used. Been using Opera for over 10 years.
