We have one about 6 miles from my house, so I go fairly often. My favorite Wegman's item is a vegetarian sub with everything on it but no mustard. The dressing they use on their subs is very good and they sell it at the deli counter. Worth buying as it is also great on a tuna pasta salad. My sil loves their frozen fancy desserts.
Overall, great produce and meat. We also love their bagels.
Have fun!

There is no possible way that I could say what to look for because there is soooo much to offer. That store is amazing and I love it!

I will say that their Olive Bar is to die for along with the meat, cheese, seafood, etc., etc. Ask for a taste of anything that you want. You can have a field day in there.

Your going to have a blast I guarantee.

Our Wegman's has boneless, skinless chicken breast family pack on sale for $1.79 with your shoppers club card. $1.99 without.

I agree on the subs. Wegman's are among the best, whichever flavor you want.

Other than that, I don't know what to say. Their store brand sauces are very good. Their bakery products are great. Meats, cheeses, olives, etc. all are first rate.

Definitely bagels. Take and bake pizza. Cannoli shells and filling. It's sold separately.

I love to just walk around and browse. The things above are what I usually go for plus fresh herbs but I'll walk out of there spending a fortune.
If my daughter is with me she can usually talk me into a birthday cake for our pretend birthdays.

Check out the ethnic section. There is a lot of good stuff there.

Enjoy your trip.

Wegmans's is my regular grocery store, although I cannot afford all the special stuff they are well known for. Their bread is fantastic!! Buy lots and freeze. That's what they do best, IMHO. Also good selection of cheeses, although I can get better at the local farm market. Their deli is good, so plan on eating there. I first tried sushi at Wegman's. Good international selection. Good selection of organic products, especially organic cottage cheese and yogurt. Good selection of pasta. Fun kitchen things. But the one thing I like best at Wegman's is the bread. And the muffins. Oh, and they have a bulk foods section where I get the best prices on roasted whole almonds sans salt, which I like. Also organic, free trade coffee which is nice. Lots of different kinds of teas in the health food section if you're into that kind of thing. I really enjoy a lot of the convenience foods in the health food section. Great organic salsas and bean dips and chips.

I never buy these things anymore at Wegman's even though I am there practically every week! But I would if it was a special trip. Have fun! I really like the service at Wegman's too. That actually is why they are my regular grocery, the service.

I'm lucky enough to have Wegmans as my regular grocery too, and their international food aisles are incredible. If you don't have access to a lot of asian markets near you, I highly recommend stocking up at Wegmans, as their selection is just unreal!

I'm envious. Wegman's is my all time favourite grocery store. I use to shop at Wegman's when I lived in Dunkirk, NY.

I'm going to save this thread - as it's a special treat for me too. There are lots of great suggestions here. Haven't tried subs or take and make pizza or bagels or free trade coffee. hmmmm. I better go back soon!

Ann, I am going to soon check out the Wegman's in Jamestown. It's an hour which is a little shorter than the drive to the McKinley one, which is the next closest.

We always check out the meat and fish - and cheeses, and I always check out the international foods - got some chile oil - and I always get some Terra chips. Spiced Sweet potato are the BEST!

I spent years 'lusting' for a Wegman's--had a friend who had one nearby, and used to tell me how wonderful the place is. Then, finally, one opened 3 miles from my front door. I'm generally there several times a week. I just like going and wandering around. Often, you will be offered free samples of this or that. It's hard to recommend any few items--they have so many great offerings. But I will say this, I'm generally a brand snob about a lot of things, but Wegman's brands are excellant. Can't think of anything of theirs that I've tried that I've been disappointed with. Their fresh pasta is very good, for example, and very reasonable.

I'm in Jo's neck of the woods. We go to the same Wegman's. I definitely agree with Lpink about the bread. Fantastic! I agree with Azzalea too. I love their brand canned goods and dry good food items (canned corn, tomatoes, boxed pastas, etc.) They are dirt cheap and better quality than most national brands.

I was just thinking about heading to Wegman's this afternoon as we have company coming for the weekend (surprise visit) YEA:(

Anyway, mine has some out-of-this-world grilled scallops in six different flavors. These scallops are HUGE and wonderful. My store also makes an awesome Rye bread.

aw well, dixiedog - at least you have Wegman's to help for those surprise visits - lol!

azalea - that is so funny. I kept losing Scott the other day, as he "ate" his way through the store...they even had root beer float samples!

Stacy, the Jamestown Wegmans was part of my "Wegmans Triangle". It was actually the one that was closest to me when I lived in Dunkirk. Buffalo and Erie, PA were an hour or so away and Jamestown was about 45 minutes so it was actually the one that I probably went to more often. I hit them all though on a regular basis. I never minded driving an hour to grocery shop. Although gas at the time was around $1.00 a gallon in that area. It has been 7 years since I shopped there and it was good then and my guess is that it only got better.

OP here.
Thanks for the tips. I'm going next Sun. and I'll let you know what I find.

Our Wegmans is about five minutes from my house. My regular grocery stores are farmers' markets, a fish store, and ethnic markets in our area so I rarely buy meat, poultry or fish there.

I buy items at Wegmans that I can't find in other stores - their Marco Polo bread, French rolls, olive bar, containers of in-store grated parmesan cheese, bags of cleaned and halved leeks, chopped pancetta, and Chocolove candy bars. My favorite splurge item is frozen lobster claw and knuckle meat. I also like their house brand BBQ sauces.

Our store has particularly good bagels and I stop in on the way to work a couple of times a week for them but I don't care for their house brand cream cheese.

Have fun exploring all that Wegmans has to offer.
