Cabinetry cost with built-in/ custom panel fridge?

We have the considering a built in Liebherr with custom panels. Our original cabinet estimate called for a normal, slide in fridge. I know we will spend more to get the front panels (and the fridge!), but does anyone know if I need to get a different cabinet to hold a built-in fridge?

Looks like they can be completely built in or partially. I'd choose the exact fridge you want, get those specs & take them to your cabinet guy to see what's available to completely surround that fridge. Not every cabinet company is going to have all of the right pieces to build it in. What kind of cabinets are you getting ? Custom, semi-custom or stock?

when I was cabinet shopping Diamond didn't offer a proper cabinet for the built-in Liebherr. The 30" Liebherr requires a 29 1/2" wide cutout. That little detail really messed things up. I can't remember exactly what the issue was, but would have caused me to have a lesser cabinet for significantly more money.

That was the primary reason I went with custom. And I'm SO glad I did! Custom didn't cost much more and there were no design compromises, I got exactly what I wanted.

Custom inset cabinets installed cost about 5% more than Diamond full overlay installed.

Hi Folks I know it was literally years ago but I just wanted to chime in and say what a great discussion thread this is/was. So many claims are made by sellers and "makers" - for what it's worth, I am going the opposite direction with my project for our own home. I am building new doors that will look like 1930's commercial chiller units, with big hinges and handles as well as adding several personal touches to the whole lot, like refashioned Chrysler wings emblems etc . The two fridges I am using are a liebherr wine/freezer unit and a Jenn Air Alaska model - see attached link and click on AA kitchen project .... might cause some heart palpitations for some, but perhaps a smile for others. BTW In one of my designs I overcame the issues around the toe kick by replacing the floor under the fridge with an insect proof perforated metal grill ... still strong enough to take the fridge and enabled cool air to vent up from the underfloor. As rococogurl pointed out, design is not something anyone can just pick up and get right the first time. There are so many details, and a lot of math, haha! And, as she said, that is the beauty of these gw home forums! Laypeople like myself can garner a lot of knowledge and advice, both from professionals and from regular people who have learned from their mistakes. At the least, we can see what we don't know and can learn what questions to ask. I'm rebuilding a house, subfloor to roof. It's going to take ten years, unless I win the lottery or have a long lost relative leave me the family fortune, lol! Can I afford a KD (kitchen designer)? Are you kidding me?!?? It has nothing to do with not respecting the profession: I have immense respect for designers and the work they do. It has to do with what I can afford. This forum, and the others here on GW, have been invaluable! I've learned so much from all of you! Today I learned about refrigerator depths, stuff I wouldn't have thought of by myself. Thanks! And I'm glad Brittbelquist got the look she wanted without a huge expense!! YAY! :-)

Paneled or stainless built in fridge?

Agree with goluscombe......either choice is OK. I would say, if you can group all stainless on one wall, then have other walls all panel, that can be more coherent. I'd recommend taking your straight-on wall views 1 by 1, and coloring all the stainless appliances with a blue-gray pencil so you can more easily visualize the effect of that contrast. Net net, slight preference for panel.

Sometimes you have to do something that appears to be outside what's commercially available only at the high end to get what you want or to get the equivalent at a reasonable price point. You don't get 'inspected' for a permit on your cabinet setup. You're free to have what works for you constructed. Or to construct what works yourself. Some walk on the grass through a park. Some stay on the paths. Both can be happy. Neither has to denigrate the other. I'll ride my bike on the path and look for morels where there aren't any paths.

We sent the specs over to the cabinet place (using 2 types from mid-continent, I think). She said it's no problem to make the cabinet- and for the custom panel, it depends on if we want it framed ($180) or overlay ($800). Oh, framed sounds just fine to me ;)
