Thank God for my great husband, morphine, & squishy toliet seats!

LOL, according to Eric I am "high as a kite". He found me a squishy seat, and laughed when I told him it was the best anniversary present EVER! haven't tried it for "all its intended purposes" but so far so good. Eric thinks it may be more the effects of the morphine but either way, I am one happy lady! LOL

Anyone else have unusually spouse gift stories?

No stories, but I will say those padded toilet seats are great. Far warmer in cold weather too.

And I do NOT want to know how you made it "squishy"! :)

LOL cynic, I am referring to the padded seat. compared to the wood one we have, I consider it squishy. Eric just came upstairs to check on me and found my state of mind quite entertaining. I do not drink alcohol so it is not often I am in this state of mind

Our family didn't even plan it this way, but all the cousins (the oldest being 6) are named: Chad, Zack, Max, Jack, Emma and Jenna. It's real fun at family gatherings. Kinda reminds me of that Bill Cosby routine "I thought my name was D@mn it! until I was 5 years old...."

not sure I'm seeing this correctly since I don't believe anyone mentioned this(the print is small for my eyes this late at night.... he, he).... Do your guests have to access the powder room via the kitchen walkway? If so, that would bother me in my home. I'd prefer to see a hallway running down to that bathroom, with maybe a doorway in that hallway so you could still get from kitchen to dining room. I would want my kitchen a bit more seperate from people traipsing to use the restroom. I see another bathroom across the house near the future inlaw suite. Perhaps you will have that for your guests instead? Everything else looks great to me. That kitchen is going to be a beauty, and I'm a huge fan of the pillars. :o) Again, sorry if I read your plans wrong. I just can't see the first floorplan (which I do prefer, for sure!) words very well. Looks like it will be a wonderful home. And being gifted 8 acres AND a pond. How sweet is that?!!

I was born in '44, and I never had "fast food" until I dated my husband in the late 60's. My family considered McDonald's food to be trash, though none of us had ever tasted it. While in my late teens I drove to Hartford, CT for my bassoon lesson, and I used to pass a Friendly's and read the sign that said Ice Cream on one line and Sandwiches on the line below. I wondered if they were a sandwich shop or if they sold only ice cream sandwiches. I didn't find out until one was built in Stratford and I finally decided to eat there. Awful Awfuls were incredibly large and think milkshakes at Friendly's. They were awful good and awful big. Eventually, they had to change the name to the Fribble. I think it was due to a another store using the name first. Somehow, when the name changed, Fribbles just weren't as good as Awful Awfuls. Friendly's made the best cheesburgers in the world back then. They were made as a square burger added to a grilled cheese sandwich and were always cut into three pieces. Does anyone recall a canned meat called Veal Loaf? The can was ths same as a Spam (UGH, no matter how poor I may ever be, I will NEVER again eat Spam) can but the meat tasted gteat. The can was opened with a roll-up key. We had a sandwich grill and made the sandwiches on Wonder Bread. Making sandwiches for four people from that one can made for pretty thin sandwiches. I wonder if German hard rolls were what we called water rolls. I never found them outside CT and haven't had one in 40 years. Going back to my parents' distain of fast food, and when we were still very poor, our Sunday night supper was always eggs and potatoes. My father always cooked the potatoes, usually as slices fried in a ton of butter on a two burner long griddle pan. When he was in a good mood he would take the time to make real french fries. A can of Crisco was melted in a deep pot and we peeled REAL potatoes for him to deep fry. Each batch was placed into a clean paper bag and shaken to remove extra grease. Then, they were shaken with salt and we had the best fries I have ever tasted. I recall making real fries once when my kids were little. They shared them with their friends and they sure disappeared fast! Oh, yeah, how about going to the local drug store and getting a good sized Hershy bar with almonds for a nickel???? Another treat was parking near the local airport to watch the planes land and take off. There was a hot dog stand nearby and sometime we got foot long hot dogs. No Belgian Waffle has ever tasted as good ones I had first at the World Fair in New York in the 60's. My family was terribly poor and a special treat was a Sunday ride and a stop at the God Humor truck. I think they cost 15 cents back then. A quick lunch, considered healthful, was a Horlick's Choclate Malted milk with a raw egg beaten into the whole milk!!! God they were good!

I've always hated AI...until I was flipping through the channels about three weeks ago and Elliott was getting ready to sing. Oh, My Goodness! HE has RAW talent. If there were ever a diamond in the rough to clasp onto, then this is the man. He has little to no showmanship, but he can be taught. And I suspect WILL be taught. Already, someone's counseling him. He can grow that hair and find a good dentist...and he'll have women drooling. He needs an objective ear to help him chose the right songs to sing in this contest to win it. Overall, he is just phenomenal. I was shocked with all of the other talent on the show. Chris...has honed his pipes and stones to a smooth delivery of his persona when he performs. I'm a bit concerned that he isn't multifaceted. Time will tell. Katherine has my vote for the most marketable of the women. She has talent, looks, and presence. She is still immature acting at times, but towers over Kelli's frivolous attempt at playing the Barbara Mandrell's sister Erline's type of a roll; or like June Carter played. There is money in funny, but not stupid cutesy like Kelli is trying to pan out. It seemed that Seacrest was trying to give her some sympathy time, too, to try to keep her around longer...when he had her up there seated next to him for his fireside chat. I kid you not, she's probably a better actress than singer. Listening to her say something like, "Lookeehear! I got toenail polish on and fake eye lashes!" Makes me want to say, "Darlin', cut the crap. Women are listening and they're not as stupid as you think." We all know how men can be when it comes to a hot tamale. They drool. Even Simon drools. Thank the Lord he didn't the other night. As for Mandissa, Paris, Ace, Jay...or Taylor...they're marketable to a degree. They'll certainly make the tour fun and diverse. THAT is what I believe the judges were going for when they chose this group of singers: a diverse group that would appeal to all age groups when the show is done and over and the American Idol 2006 group goes on tour.

I don't recommend DANCING, in the moonlight, with your DH, on your anniversary. Might get a little bit dizzy!

Some anniversary presents are given out of necessity....seems like yours was. (I hope you feel better soon but don't give up the morphine just yet.)
I got a new toilet seat, a cheapie from Walmart one year.....but DH really is a keeper.

Hope you are using ice on your back to help with the swelling, which in turn will help with the pain. Sending air hugs and prayers.

if the upstairs bath is done by our 40th, (feb 6) that will be the best present ever, lol...i refuse walking up and down the stairs to use the facilities in the middle of the night so have been using the office bed...

how about my tires i got for christmas?

my dh is another keeper..did everything after my hyst, for a good 6 weeks...and for the week after the lumpectomy...

oh can i add he went out and bought and installed a "taller" toilet for us? boy did that help getting up and down...we now have one in both bathrooms...

Not many of us are in the habit of going to the bathroom to get "high" - plus being available in both locations.

Much cheaper than using the usual method, as well: not followed by being hung over, either!

My DH is the greatest-when I had a stroke in 2001 due to high blood pressure, I spent a month in the hospitsl. I was released and put on a very strict diet, including no sodium. No salt. My favorite condiment. My sweetie went out and bought me a shaker of Mrs. Dash herbal salt substitiute. What a doll! I have a squishy seat in my downstairs bathroom but the plastic cracked so it's a little rough.

This is the first house we did NOT have handicapped bars and tall toilets, lol.

I will install the squishy seat once I am better. Right now we perch it on top of the old one and are very careful. He is better at handing me tools than using them for such household repairs.

While we were in Morgantown, we had about 4 hours between appointments so we went to Barnes & Noble. He got to spend out gift cards and I zoned out at one of the cafe tables. We are both exhausted and will go to bed early but right now I do NOT want to be back in that bedroom!

janie,one time I fell my hubby had to undress me and help me get in bath tub,he thoroughly enjoyed it... lol You know how I know that?I only had to ask him 1 time!!!!!!!!

Oh good grief, he can handle a pair of pliers can't he? A screwdriver maybe. Sometimes neither is needed. Changing a toilet seat is one of the easiest DIY jobs around the house. Below is a video on how to do it if he needs it. When you're in paid you shouldn't risk slipping on a seat you have to balance on to use.

Cynic, I am more concerned with him getting frustrated getting the old on off and cracking the porcelain... it is our only toilet in the house!!!!!

Bull, I WISH he could do that! But he has a herniated disc also. He would need the body hoist from work and I REFUSE to be moved in a funeral home body hoist, for many years to come,lol.
