Even with all the advancements made, it's such a frightening thing. Good thoughts and prayers coming your way. Prayers are such a powerful thingâ¦â¦..good thoughts and positive attitude are powerful, too.

I went through breast cancer 20 years ago. I still remember the day they told me. It was a heart breaking day. You are right it is hard to hear your child has to go through it. I know they have come a long way in prevention and I am so thankful for this. I know it is no longer a death sentence. What is scarey for us is that every woman in my family that has had cancer has died except for me and a niece. That sure gives you a lot to think about. I have a strong faith as well as my daughter does. I know this helps so much. Thank you so much for your prayers.

Sending good thoughts and lots of prayers. Hopefully it is in early treatable stage and she will come through with flying colors. Regardless of the stage though, Breast cancer is not the death sentence it used to be..There are so many treatments available that the Breast cancer survival rate is way way up there....

.Our Daughter had a double mastectomy this past year and has undergone a reconstruction and is doing well. They found a rapidly growing cancer in both breasts but her treatment is going really well and for now there is no sign of cancer....

My prayers are with you. My DD went thru this about 2 years ago and with my husband having cancer, and other problems, I put it in God's hand. Truthfully, I could not get real upset, because I knew the Dr's involved and they are great. We have a tremendous and positive cancer center in Minot, Yes I was a bit upset, but I knew she would be OK. She is cancer free, but on a special 5 year program. Yes it can happen to anyone, but two other close friends went thru the same ordeal. both cancer free at this time. Just put the problem in God's hands and it will help.
We have alot of cancer in the area and our clinic works with the Mayo Clinic and we see alot of good results.

I know how you are feeling, as my DD#5 was diagnosed with it about nine years ago. She had the mastectomy, of course, then chemo and radiation. She is doing very well now. My mother also lived for fifty years after her breast cancer and treatment. So good wishes going out to her, and to you.

I'm sorry you have to go through this, Susie. No mother wants to hear that news. But so many survive, and survive well--and clearly you are one of them. I hope it will help to keep that in mind. Please let us know how you both are doing.

Such a blow , try to stay positive there are so many wonderful treatments for cancer, I am a 14 year survivor of breast cancer and 10 year survivor of bowel cancer. I have done so well , but know the shock of hearing that I had it not once but twice. I had good care and am living a cancer free life at the moment, it certainly makes one appreciate one day at a time. I pray for your peace of mind and may she be healed quickly. Support from friends and family is everything.

Let's hope it's caught in time, my Mom had a mastectomy when she was early 50s and lived to the ripe old age of 89! She did not die from any form a cancer either!

I'm so glad she has you! my mother had just passed and I went thru a total hyst,(cervical cancer) then a lumpectomy..starting on year #5...few aches and pains but doing ok...

Your daughter and your family will be in my prayers until she gets her 5 year cancer-free check up. I KNOW how scary this is! My DDIL, then son's fiancee, got the breast cancer diagnosis 2 years ago this month. (They were married 8 months into treatment. She wore a gorgeous wig that looked just like the hair she lost in chemo. And her dress was perfection.) She was 31. She's been through a LOT! She later developed bone metastases, which advanced her from a stage 1 to a stage 4. But, she's a trooper and a fighter and she's at the best cancer treatment center in the world. Two weeks ago, she got her first 6 month cancer-free check up! WOOO-HOOO! First hurdle down! I may not be her Mom, so maybe I don't know quite how you feel. But I love her every much as my own daughter, because you can't not help falling in love with her. Have hope. Even when your head is spinning. Especially when your head is spinning. Drewsmaga, I am thrilled for your DIL. She sounds like a real trooper. No one knows what a person goes through until they themselves face it. I know they do great things as far as cancer treatments go now a days. It is no longer a death sentence like it used to be. We are praying it has been caught early. I remember when they told me. I cried for days. They moved me along very quickly which really helped. It seems they are doing the same for my daughter. I know she is in wonderful hands.she is just so scared right now. She has a 7 year old daughter and a wonderful husband that will be right by her side all the way.

I had wonderful doctors and nurses. They work so hard for cancer patients. I remember my radiation treatments. I remember the first day. I layed on the table as the door went shut with tears streaming down my face. The door looks like a big thick vault door. I can still remember that sound of the door shutting. The treatments were easy to do. I went every morning at 7. I went for 7 weeks. The same group of people were there, too. Sadly at the end of the 7 weeks some were gone. That was hard. I remember a young man with 2 young daughters.. He had brain cancer. When I did my chemo there was a beautiful tall redhead. Her brother came with her every time. She had twin daughters that had just started college. She passed away a few months later. That' the hard part. You get to know each other so well.

Stacey, my daughter, is a school teacher. She loves her job. She is so great with her class. She teaches in a tough school. She often tutors students after school free. She knows some of them have a hard life. She cares so much for them. She goes the extra mile to do the extra things for them. I supply her with things from time to time because she has to pay for them out of her own pocket. She has formed a group of teachers that work together on this. They are always on the lookout for ideas and deals for each other. Money to buy for 30 plus kids in a class only goes so far when you have a family, too. I go in from time to time to help on some projects. The kids are so funny. I see why Stacey loves to teach.

I want to thank everyone for their loving words and wonderful prayers. I know we will get through this but right now it is difficult. She is our youngest of 3 children. Just so hard for mom.

Thanks for telling us about your DD. Our DIL taught 8th Grade Math in a tough Chicago neighborhood for years until a transfer to a 'less-tough' one two years ago. I think your girl must be a strong person -- one who can meet this challenge and come out of it even stronger -- with your support.

I don't remember where I heard this -- probably right here at the KT: A mother is only as happy as her least happy child. But that doesn't mean that Mom can fall apart! I'm glad to see from your posts that the immediate shock is passing, and you are girding for the battle ahead.

Your DD is going to be *fine*. This bad news is life *threatening*, not a death sentence. The battle will be won. Look to the light. (And come here to unload fear and uncertainty.)
