School out early today - about 4" fell before they sent them home. 2 hour late start tomorrow - waiting to see...if wind picks up, they will cancel.

I heard the closure announcement for my kid's school on the way to pick them up. The kids were celebrating when I got there. I'm not as excited. I was supposed to start my art class tomorrow.

I am surprised Glenda that your schools have already shut down for tomorrow.We got a recorded msg that said they would make the call tomorrow morning here in central Mississippi.The grocery stores sure were crowded this afternoon.

No travel advised here and at least 6 or more inches of light fluffy snow. The wind is supposed to come up and blow somewhere around 25mph now. Wind chills to -45, my dogs are hopping on 3 legs when they go out already! They won't even leave the step and just pee as soon as they get out the door. Can't say I blame them.
The state said they were pulling the plows off the highways in the south central part of the state.
I HATE winter the past few years!! It's never ending, we just got umteen inches of snow over Christmas (16 inches)
we sure didn't need to add to it.
I am thinking school will be an hour late tomorrow. We ALWAYS have school it seems like, its rare to cancel it.

Friday, the winds are supposed to be fierce, so most schools closed till Monday.

Don't want kids standing out in the frigid air waiting on the school bus. Which is what my GS would have to do.

It is down to 10 above right now and snow to move in tonight and all day tomorrow.

Oh my stars!! I haven't heard if the schools here are closed or not. Seems to me they'd wait and see if there's going to be problem first! Oh well..guess they're gonna try and use those built in weather days!!

I'll be really surprised if we see much more than a few flakes.

Friend emailed me about 3 and said Briarwood, her kids private school was closed. Went to NBC News. Think Cullman schools were closing until Monday, first, as they are further north than you and I are.

Well, the school closing has been updated. School is now out Thursday and FRIDAY!!! I love my children, but we are in a third floor, two room bedroom until the end of the month.

The good news is that my art class got canceled for tomorrow so I'm not missing anything. It will be rescheduled.

Moni, I think we just aren't prepared to handle the cold. There are also city financial issues. Tulsa has been trying to save money. They've already used up a lot of their allotted sand for the streets. There have been water breaks in some of the public water lines the last couple of days. It could end up being a real emergency for some.

we've had one or 2 schools closed but that's from broken pipes or no heat...don't know if we'll get much snow at all tomorrow here...(detroit)

News was saying some of the northern county schools were quite old, and with the frigid air coming it, the cost of keeping them warm was a lot of bucks!

I'm going to show my age here, but... when I was a kid, we just dressed extra warm on really cold days. And we wore our coats during class instead of hanging them in the cloak room. :-)

Schools here are open tomorrow despite the snow we got today and are supposed to get more tonight. Iowas are hardy and used to winter weather.

We got 4 inches Sunday night which means the school system has come to a complete hault all week.
We're expecting more tonight so it's a guess when we will resume normal schedule.
It isn't much indeed but where we are , the ice always comes first and with the city financial strains to keep up road maintainence + 90% of our area being hills that are more like mini mountains , I'd much rather burn our snow days and go on Saturdays in the spring or later into the first of June rather than put all the children in jeopardy.

So the schools close when its blowing and cold, Glenda?

Snow upgrade has been from 1-2 inches.

Oh, I figure they have their reasons.

We found out school is closed on Thursday, only a few mins ago. Wind has been blowing super hard, snow blowing everywhere too. Dh left with the tractor to pull my nephew out of the snow along with a friend that nephew was trying to pull out first. This is our 3rd snow storm in less than a month and not much has thawed. We have hills in the middle of our farm that didn't exist in November.
Kids have only missed 2 1/2 days of school because of snow/ice. Of course we have a pretty decent snow plow plan. The worst part for us tonight is the wind chill factor. It's about -14 and going down fast. brrrrr!!! It's hard to breath out there.

Schools around here made the decision today to close early tomorrow. The snow is predicted to start here after noon, "light accumulations." That's called flurries, folks! Not a terrorist threat! I won't whine in details, but it is really messing up my day ;o) and I really wish they'd just wait and see if it actually happens. When the kids leave school, I bet things are still dry.

Snow and blowing snow here too Toni. -16 and darn windchills -37! It is unbelievably cold out there! Bitter.
We have school ( on time too ) but there are no buses running this morning. That is dumb IMO, there are country teenage drivers out trying to get to school! Its so white everywhere its hard to see where you're driving! In town is way different than trying to drive 15-20 or more miles cross country!
Of course I am a Mom and the ones that make the decisions are men! LOL
