Disappointed with my Crock Pot brand slow cooker

I bought a large oval Crock Pot brand slow cooker a couple years ago and I've gone through two lids already. It's the plastic handle part that's breaking even though I've always hand washed it. I think it just can't handle the heat. I've used my Crock Pot less than a dozen times in the last two years and I can't believe I need a new lid again already. I had to pay about $15 to order a new lid the first time and I DON'T want to do that a second time. They didn't have just the plastice handle to order separately.

Now what REALLY ticks me off is that I wonder if the thing is even safe. I think they must've used an inferior type of plastic when it was manufactured. The controls on the front of the Crock Pot also have plastic and I'm worried that it could short out. I'd like to be able to leave it on if I have to leave the house for a little while.

Has anyone else had trouble with the lids?

Thanks for letting me vent.
