So,e granites do no require sealing. Sealing these granites could damage them. Post this question on the Kitchen forum and someone will provide the link to the list of granites that should not be sealed. Good luck!

Sealing is a very confusing topic-the sealer companies and human nature makes it that way. The question of sealing if it hasn't been addressed by your stone pro get informed about what you are buying and what role sealing will play. Simply stated every stone will have its own characteristics regarding porosity and mineral composition. There are several simple tests that you can do so that you are informed. A water test will tell you just how porous or not your stone is. A lemon test will tell you about porosity and also acid sensitivity. The glass test will tell you if you are dealing with a true quartzite or not. Taking a sample home to work with and test is key. When dealing with the confusing nature of stone or any natural product you must be an "educated consumer" . You can be mislead by the most sincerest experts that have been misinformed regarding stone. Regarding sealers most main stream sealers are fine to use-Its all about the application. How many applications will you need for a porous stone? How often should I be sealing or not? Why am I sealing a stone that exhibits no porosity when tested? All the answers can be found online or on the forum. Getting back to the original questions-sealing every year is overkill. A sealer should last anywhere from 3 years and on. You must use neutral ph cleaners that wont degrade the sealer. Doing this will extend the life of the sealer. As far as the Macubus do the porosity test and see what you get. Your leathered antique brown isn't very porous but the fabricator may use a color enhancing sealer on the surface to bring out the depth of color. This product on that stone will sit on the surface and will have to be maintained over the course of its life.

Glad: There's many different types of sealers that are out there on the market - the best advice I can give you is to - first - find out EXACTLY which brand and type your stone has been sealed with, then look up the reccomended maintainence methods that YOUR sealer company suggests... If YOU applied the sealer, check the label on the container it came in - many companies have websites that can give you what you are looking for... IF your Fabricator applied the sealer - get with him and get the name and the type that was used - maybe he'll have a partial container that he can give you with the info on it.... maybe / maybe not, but it's worth a try.... It's been MY experience over the last 30 years, that many silicone based sealers (which are pretty much the majority of sealers these days - that I run into anyways) can be affected by acetone, alchohol or MEK solution exposure (all snotty solvents) - Again, I am NOT a Chemist dude.. I am a Fabricator, and I like happy customers, so I prefer products that do not let me down, and perform well for MY customers - after all: "Call backs - AIN'T always GREEN BACKS" Anyways......... As for cleaning, many salers work well with a simple solution of warm water and a drop of dish soap if needed... But AGAIN - consult the company info that was provided by the sealer that YOU have on YOUR counters to play it safe. hope that helps ya kevin Kevin M. @kel_kat5 - It is a mistake to think that Dayana’s situation is representative of granite counters. Most importantly, the Bahamas White granite she pictured looks like it’s in the family of the Imperial White or Kashmir granites, which is notorious for behaving more like marble and staining easily because it is more absorptive than other granites, I.e. porous. If one is looking for a granite with a white background, check out the granites in the family of Alaska White, White Springs, Bianco Delicatus, and Lennon, which are pretty bullet-proof. I’ve had different granites in different homes, and none even needed sealing, and were carefree, and we didn’t baby them. There are a thousand granites out there, and they should not all be lumped under the same umbrella. Quartz is a great choice if you want a more uniform appearance to your counters. There are stories on this forum of Quartz staining, scorching and chipping, and having resin pools. I actually think Quartz is a wonderful choice for counters. But get it for its appearance and beauty, not because you think it is more durable than granite.
