Help identifying this kale plant?
Comments (31)Red Russian does have pinkish veins, so yours is something else, clintster7. I just found one called White Russian, so that is maybe what you have elisa_z, thanks for sharing your experience with overwintering Kale. I've not succeeded with it (the voles like kale) but will plan to leave a few plants of my red Russian this year to see how it fares. Next year I'll look into one of your hardier varieties since I love plants that I can harvest until deep snow and then again in early spring....See MoreAny Recipes for Kale Chips ?
Comments (5)I love to make kale chips at work in the microwave. Well, I like to make them at home in the microwave, too, but there I have the option of using the oven, the toaster oven, or the microwave. Tear the main rib out of the kale leaves and tear the kale into nice chip-sized pieces. Spread in one layer on a smooth, microwave-safe plate (mine is Corelle), and spray lightly with olive oil. Sprinkle lightly with sea salt or with a spicy seasoning salt (I use one called Slap Ya Mama). Microwave on high for 2 min. If the leaves are not crispy, microwave for 20 sec more, continuing as needed until crispy. While others around me are eating their imitation-butter-flavored microwave popcorn, I am munching away on my real-kale-flavored green chips and feeling good. Catherine...See MoreKale Chip Recipe
Comments (9)Hi Writersblock, Derek is a very good cook! he also made fresh bread, Florida cranberry jelly and orange jam, all were delicious. I made the lentil salad and put on top of lightly sauteed kale, the recipe is very good. Thank you Veronica, it is getting very hot for greens, I had to harvest all my red cabbage and put it in the fridge, the good thing is that I grew a small variety so 1 head at a time is very easy to eat, like in fish tacos or a side dish with pork. Comments (1)Never done it but I would think they would be very fragile. Crumble into dust? Kale has a more extensive rib development. JMO Dave...See MoreAcadiafun
