Erikanh...I will be watching this post. I am interested in a sink no deeper than 8-9 inches for my main sink. I have tried deeper sinks and I really found them uncomfortable to use even with the sink grate...They were just too deep. That being said, I would also like a tall gooseneck faucet, so I am wondering the same thing as you. I hate walking away from the sink with a wet shirt!

Hi merimom! Which faucet are you considering? My Hansgrohe arrived from Home and Stone today and I admit I was taken aback to see how huge it is!! Sure is pretty though. =)

I found another thread where someone suggested that you can minimize splashing by making sure your faucet sprays directly down into the drain and not onto the sink surface. In the case of a rear drain, I guess I'd have to position the faucet further back from the sink ...?

We are leaning towards the Hansgrohe Swing C faucet...I will have to check Home and Stone's prices.

Having the water flow straight into the drain sounds like a good idea, but with a rear drain I would also be worried about having to reach too far back to reach the faucet handle. Not to mention there are going to be times that you swing the faucet and it will not be directly over the drain. I wonder if you will still get a bath then?

I agree that it is helps to position the installation of the faucet so the water flows directly into the drain though that may not always be possible. Also, at first, I found that I was always washing the dishes directly up under the spout which causes a lot of splashing. It's best to wash down low in the sink to minimize the splashing. It took awhile to get used to that but it really helps.

As far as the rear drain, I'm going to ask my plumber if he'd recommend angling the faucet toward the corner so that it doesn't have to sit too far back.

Deeper is better for splashing in the sink, but the wet shirt comes from things you try to wash.

I just checked mine for empty sink splash. I have a Hansgrohe Allegro Gourmet on my old sink. Distance from faucet (where water comes out) to the bottom of the deep bowl is 17.5". No splashing, either on regular or spray mode. The distance on the shallow bowl is 15.5" and there's no splashing on regular mode but some splashing on spray.

People must be trained to not turn on the water full blast or hold things low when washing up, like Coolmom says. My faucet comes further forwards than most, also, which is why I got it (I have short arms and got tired of reaching!) so more splash hits the user than in other setups. But it's the stuff that splashes water out, not the bottom of the sink itself.

well it also depend on the faucet and if the faucet has a good aerator on the end puts some air into the stream so it is not just a solid stream then it doesnt splash as much also !

I have an 8-1/2" deep Blanco SS sink and a Blanco Aires faucet. Though I love the look of really tall arcing faucets, I have cabinets over my sink so I didn't think there would be room. The Blanco is more of a "standard" style faucet.

Anyway, when the plumber installed my faucet, he didn't attach the aerator - he just left it on the side of the sink (no idea why). So the first time I tried out the faucet, the water came out with a great deal of pressure and splashed all over and was very noisy. I set the faucet to sprayer and it was much better. I thought I'd have to use the sprayer setting *all the time* - very annoying - the sprayer does "lock" on my faucet, but it unlocks as soon as you turn off the water.

Then I discovered the aerator sitting there. Oh, what's this?? I screwed it in. Much better. :-)

Don't know if it helps any with your situation. Probably not. LOL!

(Have to say, though - I do love my faucet. Heck, after three months, I love having running water in the kitchen!)
