Automatic temperture control vs. manual control

My husband told me to get an automatic temperature control to be installed with our thermostat to save our energy bills by keeping STEADY temperature. However, although it is true for what he said (and I read it many times before too), it is not necessarily true in our home.

I work most of the time at home, so I can control whatever the temperature I want at home. Usually, I am quite good at saving energy by lowering temperature for heat in winter and increasing it for A/C in summer. I adjust the temperature before my husband comes home, as well as guests arrive. Since I am home alone most of the time, our energy bill stay as low as it can be. I don't see why installing an automatic thermostat would help. I only adjust the temp whenever I need irregularly for a shorter time. Don't I save energy more this way? Why do I need an automatic control set to keep temp steady to save energy? I mean: we already have a thermostat to set a temp. If that is true, then we can just set one single temp all year round!!!!!

Plus, I adjust temp so irregularly, so i don't think that there is such an automatic control set designed to be set many different temp setting each different day.

Do I need one like my husband told me? Thanks
