Housetohome--I actually e-mailed them two years ago about it when the show first came out--got pretty much the same response--although they said something about looking into it (which they obviously didn't because they still don't know!). I don't think her tile is identical to the one I got, but it's close. The tile I got was on the low end of Walker-Zanger. I don't think they still make it. It's the Orielle line 4X6 subway tiles in Tanager (green). I think it was $11.50/sf (which I thought was ASTRONOMICAL at the time...then I started pricing out marble basketweave for our bathroom floor!! Yikes!) I have seen some that are a little more "uniform" lately--these are all handmade tiles with a glaze on that red pottery-type tile--so they aren't all identical as you can see from the picture. I kind of like it, but I can imagine that some people might not. But still today, when I wander through our local tile shop, I still like Walker-Zanger the best--fits the decor of our old house the best. Oh, and kpaquette, the befores really were legendary on gardenweb at the time...and certainly not in a good way. Disgusting and completely disfunctional!! Eeew!! I don't even want to remember what that looked like--we were living in the front of the house at the time with the 80's apartment kitchen and our tenant (who was the previous owner--sold it to us as long as he could rent back for two years) had this kitchen. As I walk through the house, it's hard to imagine now how it was split up into a two-family. Amazing how quickly you can get used to spaces, I tell you!! :) Sarah

Thanks for the links and pictures! The contrast level in cotelehe's quartersawn oak kitchen is probably what we're looking at; love the name of the burnt sugar stain! The other kitchens are all gorgeous, but we don't particularly like our yellowy red oak floors, and since they're throughout the house and not going anywhere, we'd like to contrast them and not be too close in tone. rjr, those birch cabinets are stunning! I love your top cabs with the glass doors, and the shaker-y doors really highlight the wood choice. Swimmer, I'm glad that my desperation can help you too!

Natural cherry shaker cabinets with natural maple floor. These cabinets are 6 years old so they have fully darkened - it happens pretty quickly: For comparison regarding darkening, here is natural cherry in our family room cabinets which were brand new in this picture; the same natural maple floor:

I chose BM Cloud White and am very happy with it. It's one of the creamy/warm whites. I ruled out White Dove as too gray and Mascarpone as too yellow. I didn't want anything that leaned pink or peach. My finalists were Cloud White and Simply White. I liked them both, for different reasons. SW is a little whiter than CW and I was afraid of all the whiteness, so went with CW. It changes depending on the light, but always reads white. It's a rich white, one I think would taste good if it were edible. Good luck. There are so many lovely whites to choose from. And please excuse the mess in my kitchen. :)
