CVS, sometimes makes me go, arghhhhhhh, over prescription refills.

I've been twice this week and mix up after mix up over the numbers. I'm supposed to get 90 each time. First time, only 30, had to call doctor and they said they called in 90. Went back yesterday, and there was a "hold" on my prescription.

Doesn't happen all the time, but has a few times.

Now this morning, on my answer machine they have called me 3 times saying it is ready. FINALLY!

I know around where I live every Jan the Dr's office & Pharmacy ask for our ins. cards. I think it is a yearly thing they have to do, just like having to make out all your medical record forms every so often even though nothing has changed. I am afraid this will only get worse

In fairness, the doctor's office or the pharmacy have no way of knowing whether your insurance coverage has changed or not. A lot of companies change insurance plans every few years. Like everyone, the company shops for better deals/contracts with insurance companies.

So, yes, they are right to check your coverage when most changes happen.

A lot of drug coverage plans are changing the coverage. Ours now only allows a 90 day prescription IF you use the mail order plan. If you walk into a local pharmacy, you're only allowed to get a 30 day supply--BUT IT COSTS THE SAME AS THE 90 DAYS WORTH FROM the mail order house. No brainer--we mail order our maintenance drugs now.

But as to the incompetance? You do get what you pay for--Walmart is Walmart. If you want decent service, that's NOT the place to chose, really. I don't know anyone in the WM pharmacy, but with dd being an optician, we know a lot of WM opticians and WM is NO place for any professional to work--they're treated horribly and disrespectfully. Any professional who has the opportunity for any other position isn't going to be working there.

I've found that you have to judge each pharmacy by the performance of the individual pharmacists.
You went from a Walmart pharmacist whom you were unhappy about to Rite Aid. In my case, I did the opposite when I found a Rite Aid pharmacist short changing me on the number of pills for a very expensive drug. I reported him to the both Rite Aid and Blue Cross, got a phone call from the Rite Aid district manager....but guess what? That pharmacist never missed a day of work.
I switched to Walmart.
So - that was a few year ago, and I have not set foot in a Rite Aid since.

I go to a small family run pharmacy in my town. I love that they know my name when I come in. Ive tried the bigger pharmacies and was never happy.

I was getting a couple of Rx's at Walmart because the price was $10 for three months.
I ran into the same problem as Kathleen.....Rx not ready, rude and uncaring clerks, etc plus I had to drive 30 miles round trip.
I went to our locally owned pharmacy and asked if they would meet Walmart's prices.....they said they would and I much prefer dealing with local businesses. They are willing to go the extra mile.
It never hurts to ask.

I had trouble with both Walmart and Walgreen in AZ when I have had to go to urgent care traveling. They refuse to honor my Blue Cross/Caremark card in AZ. I even called BC and they said they could not do anything about it. I wrote a letter to Walgreen and sent it to the CEO. Got a really nasty call from AZ and asked why and I explained why. The head person said it would be taken care in the future, but I will not go to Walgreen again. Ran into the same situation with Walmart in AZ. I deal with a local pharmacy in the medical center we deal with. They are great, know out names, answer any questions we ask and even will call the Dr. if necessary. And they are about the same price.

Ah well, you're going to get that anywhere from time to time. Like Glenda, I have had my problems with CVS but I will say that they caught a problem my Vets office made. Wrong dosage of phenobarbital was called in. CVS caught the mistake and called the Vets office, then was told the dosage was correct. The pharmacist called it to my attention and we called the Vet back. It was wrong. Problem was, this happened before and my dog started cluster seizuring, me not knowing the dosage was wrong. Yes, I still go to that Vet but trust me, they are very careful in their approach with my pets. It's been 1 year this month since we had to have Quincy put to sleep because of his seizures. :(

Sorry for going off in that direction. I still miss Quincy tremendously. :(

walmart is the Pitts and so is CVs they can't count.I have found Rite-Aid to do a better job.Had a problem with one Rite -Aid and email their manager and every thing has been forgiven.You can't really blame the chain stores .It's the druggist who get's fired and runs from chain to chain.I know because I worked in the pharmacy for years and know that some of the people are crazy themselves.A tipp when you bring in your rx sit and wait for it.The management gives them orders to say "ten min"They want you to walk around the store and spend money.This is the honest truth

Last year right after I moved from Ohio to Massachusetts I had to have a minor outpatient surgical procedure and the doctor gave me a prescription for an antibiotic he wanted me to take for 7 days prior to the procedure.

On the way home Jan asked if I wanted to stop by her pharmacy to get the prescription and I said we had to stop at Walmart anyway, so I would just get it there.

I turned the prescription in at Walmart pharmacy and we went shopping a while. I returned to the pharmacy about 40 minutes later and they told me it would be $94 and my insurance wouldn't cover it. I asked if they could call the doctor and see if he could prescribe another drug that was covered and I got nothing but a long list of double talk and lip service, so finally I told them to just give me my prescription back. Then I told Jan to stop by the CVS (her pharmacy) on the way home and I would see if they would call the doctor?

I got to CVS and explained to the pharmacist that my insurance won't cover the drug that was prescibed and asked if they could call the doctor, or if I called the doctor, could he call in the scrip?

The druggist says "Let me see your insurance card" then he took the prescription and returned with a package in about 5 minutes. As he handed me the bag he says, "That is exactly the drug that your insurance prefers, in fact, there is not even a co-pay for that one."

Then while I was standing there Jan jokingly says, "yea, you have it, but can you match Walmarts price?"

The druggist burst out laughing and says "Sure I can match their price, if you insist, but our price is only $67 and the quote from Walmart was $94."

Needless to say, I immediately set up an account with the CVS. Now when my doctors call in a prescription I can go to the driveup window in 30 minutes and its ready, and on refills, they set them up automatically and call me to say I have a prescription ready.

marie--Blue Cross--while seemingly nationwide--is actually a bunch of small entities, and your coverage is usually limited to your state. If you do a lot of travelling, you might want to check to see if your BC medical coverage goes with you out of state (I've found it doesn't and had to pay the entire bill for an ER visit while on vacation). Unless things have changed with BC, I'm not surprised that you had a problem using your card out of state.

Live in a high income area, NOT ME, live in a condo, and couldn't afford the area unless I live where I am, BUT our WalMart, you can't beat their customer relations.

Had a bad bad fall, years ago, on an unmarked water area, and they were so quick to give me the ultmost attention. And a settlement which was acceptable.

I love and enjoy my WalMart.

We get ours at Safeway.
Used Medco for awhile but we weren't getting the meds when we needed them. Same thing happened to my Mom.
Tried Walmart, they weren't bad but it was usually busy.
Tried Walgreens, once we were out of state and they transfered the prescription but when I went to pick up my meds after I got home they continued to tell me they had already been filled somewhere else. 3 times I explained that we were on vacation that one time, they said they'd correct it. The 4th time they said that the meds were in another state I switched to Safeway, so far have been happy with their service.

Its true, Blue Cross is not wide area coverage. This year, my wife changed to Anthem, a Blue Cross outfit. I looked at their literature and found that Anthem does not operate state-wide, only in a set of counties in the eastern part of the atate. Its about one-fourth of the state.

After starting on prescription allergy meds almost 3 years ago, I just naturally had them sent to the Rite Aid closest to us. After a year of paying $110 a month I checked out Medco, which is the prescription plan on our insurance.

I could kick myself for not checking sooner. The same drugs that cost $110 a month/$330 every 3 months costs about $80-$85 for a 3 month supply from Medco.

I just love the one pharmacist at our Rite Aid, she is an absolute doll, but Rite Aid, at least in our area, isn't the cheapest option. I don't think I've ever had a script filled at WalMart

We get all of our prescriptions at WalMart, never have any trouble. And we can get them filled in either Florida or Minnesota, with no problem.

Both Rite Aid and Walmart have terrible reputations in this area. I have been very happy with Walgreen's, but am thinking of switching to Publix because several of my meds are free there.

I drive through the local grocery store. I try to call a few days BEFORE I need the re-fill. Now, if the doc's office calls, that's a different story. You could be dead or cured before they get it--not all the time, but it's happened.

We recently had a GD have surgery and at her check up the doc said he wrote the pain script for more mgs. than they gave her. I was made as a wet hen, and went and told the pharmacist, and sure enough, he printed out a copy of the script, and the doc was WRONG. So, stuff happens from both ends. I'm just gonna become a Christian Scientist someday and quit worrying about it. LOL

Goldy, I have brought them in and waited for them, but then I'm sitting there for at least 40 minutes if not longer.

Moonie, sorry about Quincy, don't know if I would trust that vet again. I know they're only human...but still.

I'm thinking of switching to another drug store in town that I used to go to. It's small and closer to my house. I don't remember why I switched now. I need to call and ask about the price of my medication. I'm down to one daily and one prn (my inhaler).

I have been using Wal-Mart for a long time now and in more than one state. I really like their service and I have never found a single person that was rude. The Pharmacist have always been the best. My husband often stops by to see the Pharmacist for one reason or another and they always take all the time he needs. I love the Wal-Mart Pharmacy.
