Do You Have Dinners or Parties For Your....?

Do you have dinners or parties for your adult family members? I know if you don't live close enough you couldn't but am wondering if any of you do have dinners or parties for them? We do and usually combine a dinner for more than one if they are fairly close. Mother's Day we celebrate, Cheryl and Terri's. Father's Day and our son's. Husband and our Granddaughter get a dinner. I get a dinner sometime in Feburary with son in law. We get together several times during the year for a meal and visiting. Do you?

Kids live too far away, but when we all lived close we did it often. It needn't be a special occasion, sometimes just a weekend cookout. Or if I made a big pot of beef stew or pan of lasagne. We loved having the grandbabies and kids. Sure miss that!

Also had LOTS of friend parties before we moved. Every weekend we had a Saturday night potluck. Friends can be "family", too.

That is the easiest rose napkin I've ever seen. Glad to share it with you. I made several Christmas aprons from the panels they sell in the fabric stores. I buy them on clearance after the Christmas is past. Wish they sold Valentine panels.

Our Easter dinner will be on Sunday afternoon. We only have about half of the family. Our oldest son and his family are vacationing in FL. I have a very easy meal planned. The cooking will be done on the grill. We'll have ham slices and I think I can heat the twice-baked potatoes on the top shelf in the grill. I hope to bake some special bread tomorrow. For dessert we will have Strawberry shortcake and lemon bars. We will only have one little kid, but we will have a egg hunt, indoors. I think the weather is expected to be nice and warm. Yesterday was up in the 70's, which is amazing for MN, but it is already humid out there.

IMHO, you are probably just trying too hard. Lots of good advice above, but here are my own house rules: [1] I only prepare tried and true recipes for entertaining. My go-to entertaining meal is lasagne, which can be made a day ahead and is also a great choice when some of the guests are children. When guests arrive, I simply pop the lasagne in the oven and let it cook while I sit and enjoy my guests. [2] I have one menu star; everything else is simple prep, such as salad, steamed green beans, etc. Since I am not a baker, dessert is often just purchased, but if I were to make dessert, it would also need to fall into the make a few days ahead category. [3] Regarding wine; don't go overboard. There are plenty of great, drinkable wines for [4] Deep clean your house a week before the party. A day before the party, spruce up with a quick vacuum and dusting and re-clean the bathrooms. The day of the party, cleaning should consist only of picking up and spit-spotting. [5] Casseroles and other one dish meals might be considered old fashioned, but they are a real timesaver and host's best friend. Don't discount them. [6] Instead of formal service at the table, consider either setting up a buffet style line so guests can serve themselves, or have the food at the table family style. [7] The dishes can wait, just clear the dining room, rinse and stack in the sink until the next day.

Here's another NO. I don't like people in my kitchen trying to help. Like any good hostess, I have as much done ahead of time as can be so that there is no need for them to help out. I want to enjoy their company too. They are my guests and shouldn't be working in the kitchen. Don't want them to help with the clean up either. I know where everything goes. Don't want to go searching for a utensil I need only to not find it in the spot where it is supposed to be. Leave it all to me. I invite them over for companionship, good food and conversation, not KP duty. NancyLouise

Yes, we always do DD and my Dad's birthdays together in March. SIL sometimes does my Mom's with her twin boys birthdays which are all in June.

My birthday is almost always the same weekend (sometimes the same day) as my Dad's side of the family reunion. There have been years that I had to remind DH, DD, DM and DDad that it was my birthday. Almost like having a birthday on Christmas I guess. Never feels very special.

Yes but I prefer to take others to dinner or have them take me to dinner. It beats cooking.

We usually all get together for each family member's birthday. A lot of the time it will be on the Sunday afternoon/early evening nearest to their birthday. They are all so busy with the kids in sports, we have to work around it.

With my cousins, we go out to lunch once a month. When the month rolls around that our birthday are in we celebrate it on our lunch day with gifts.

We all live in the same town.

My aunt and uncle that raised me had 5 children of their own....plus me. Between us there were 20 grand children and now lots and lots of greatgrands. Also quite a few great greats too. Only two of them moved away. The two that moved away were both greatgrands and both boys named Scott.

Only five of them have divorced.(that is among the children,grands and great grands.

And four have passed away...the aunt and uncle that raised me and one of their daughters and one son in law.

All the rest of us still live here. Says a lot for family and our town, at least I think it does.

When the weather is nicer, my sisters and I have 'sisters night' at the home where Annie lives. Usually we all show up. We each bring our own food, take turns getting a fast food meal for Annie, and just chill out for an hour or two. And we all get together for her birthday, plus we hold a Christmas party there too.
