Would You Please Show Me Your Dishes and/or Glasses in Drawers?
Comments (22)I have a similar system as hockeymom and lisa . . . I bought pegboard and the uprights separately. The only thing I don't like is that the uprights ar little sharp on the edges and I occasionally scrape a knuckle. Next kitchen I'll track down the dowels or go for the Ikea lifters, which I think are neat. My drawer is a 36" pots and pans drawer and it works great. I do, however, keep my glassware in an upper cabinet....See MoreDishes In Drawers
Comments (31)Wow! What is it about garden web that someone asks the questions that I have before I get a chance to post them?! Those drawers all look so pretty with the nice stacks of dishes in them! I can't wait to get some new matching plates and bowls, and drinking glasses when we move to the new kitchen. We are down to two glasses (and a bunch of plastic cups), and not quite enough glass bowls for every one. Way too many large dinner plates, and not enough of the salad size which most of the kids prefer...It will be nice to get some new dishes! I have some drawers across from the sink that will be very convenient to the dishwasher. Perfect, and the kids won't need to drag chairs into the kitchen to put away dishes anymore! I need to measure the depth of the drawers (they are on the lowered end of my island, so a bit shallower) and try to find glasses that will fit in them. I almost bought some of those plate holders at IKEA recently, I'm glad I didn't-sounds like you all find them unnecessary....See MoreFor those who have few/no upper cabinets...
Comments (11)My only upper cabinet is over the fridge, and I don't have any shelves, either. Glasses are in a drawer on a cushy mat, upside-down. No dividers of any kind. In two years I have had zero problem with them staying in place. Coffee mugs are on a pantry shelf with the coffee maker (but we don't drink coffee, so all that only comes out when we have guests). They would be fine in a drawer, and could lie on their sides in a top drawer (I have several spare top drawers that aren't holding much). Stemware is in the wet bar in the next room, although I have a drawer I could use for them. Stemware might be the only thing I'd worry about putting in drawers, and I would consider some kind of divider system in case they want to tump over. But we haven't ripped out the wet bar yet, so I haven't had to deal with it yet....See MorePerfect cereal bowls, juice glasses, mugs....
Comments (21)Juice glasses--check out the Rings glasses at Crate and Barrel--the smallest size, although I think the other sizes are good too. 95 cents apiece!! My kids use these everyday, PLUS they were so cheap I copied a friend of mine and bought eight dozen for a Christmas party one year. We use them for wine and champagne, bistro-style, and I love that we are not using paper that will just get thrown away. It's a little investment but have a few parties and they will pay for themselves :) plus they fit in the dishwasher much more easily than wine glasses, and are easier to store. (They also stack, another plus.) For bigger glasses I like the "working glasses" from Crate and barrel, and probably other places too: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=150&f=1693&q=lids&fromLocation=Search&DIMID=400150&SearchPage=1 You can buy lids for them and use them as refrigerator storage. It's nice when something has two functions and isn't plastic :) Here is a link that might be useful: Rings glasses...See Morehoneysucklevine
