What size cabinets do you have?
Comments (5)I asked a similar question a couple of months ago. I only got one response, but it might help you a little (see link below). We ended up getting custom cabinets that are a standard depth. We haven't moved in yet, so I can't tell you what it's like. I'm pretty sure I'll have to have a little step-stool in there. I did have a really good (I thought!) idea of an invention to help with this. Wouldn't it be nice if you could store all of your stuff in there, but each liquid would have it's own screw on tap. You know, like on a keg of beer? You would just grab the hose and push the button to squirt it right into the container on the washer. I asked at the appliance store where I bought the washer and dryer if anything like that existed, and he looked at my like I was nuts. ;-) Oh well. Comments (13)Do you have a picture of your refrigerator now? Is it in the same location it will be after the remodel? Does your doorway have an actual door? If not, consider eliminating the trim/molding around the doorway and make it an "opening". It will be a lot easier to work with. As an FYI, the wall next to our refrigerator is not flush with our refrigerator carcass/box. To "build-in" the refrigerator, we put panels on each side of the refrigerator with a couple of inches extending out past the wall. Then, we mounted the cabinet above the refrigerator flush with the panels. I think it looks fine, but it would be up to you how you like it if it's even an option for you. I guess what I'm saying is that if you make the wall no deeper than the refrigerator carcass/box & eliminate trim around the doorway, then you won't need to worry about hitting the trim with the door and not being able to open the refrigerator door fully...without having to add wasted filler space. Comments (13)Here are directions to turn a narrow upper into a horizontal cabinet like xonatxo has suggested. They've used an 18" cabinet to fit between counter and uppers. Not sure IKEA has a 12" x 30" tall upper, but plans for Cool IKEA hack nonetheless. https://inspiredkitchendesign.com/ikea-kitchen-hack-cabinet-many-uses/...See MoreMachines on pedestals?
Comments (8)My new-to-me house came with Duet front load washer and dryer already mounted on pedestals. I love them but I'm 5'7" with a bad back. My laundry room is next to the master bedroom, so I prefer to fold everything while watching TV in the bedroom. For service, I think it'd be easier with pedestals rather than harder as the extra height makes them easier to move away from the wall. We just had the water inlets/solenoids replaced and access was from the top and the top of the back. We have not (knock wood!) had to do any big part like a drum or counterweight so I don't know if that'd be different. We just installed a laundry sink and are now going to get cabinets installed. I too had looked at the over-the-fridge cabs since they're 24" deep and I thought they'd be easier to reach. But that created a problem with the cabs on each side since those are only 15" deep and taller: it seemed to become very complicated with including fillers for door-opening clearance and the different heights would bug me. So what I'm planning now is a normal 15" deep wall upper cabinet but with a pullout drawer on the bottom "shelf" (and also the middle "shelf" too) with Ikea cabinets. With the cabinet frame being 14 3/4" deep and the drawer 13 1/4" deep, the front of the full-extension drawer will be 28" from the wall. The front of my WD is 34" from the wall, so I'll be able to reach just fine. I do plan to check with one of their kitchen setups while at Ikea before ordering though, to be sure.
