please help with washer dryer installation question
Comments (10)Hello: Hopefully someone can help me with this situation. I live in a 1 bed/1 bath condo in Los Angeles without a laundry hook up. I am in the process of remodeling my bathroom. When talking to various contractors, I spoke about wanting to hook up a washer/dryer combo in the bathroom area. They had this suggestion that I put the unit in a front hall closet that backed up to the shower area & then piped it from there. I was not really sold on the idea, but decided to go for it & do it right with getting a new Bosch Axxis washer & dryer set. My contractor does everything by the book & pulled a permit on the job (big mistake in LA for something like this remodel as I have been without a shower to use for almost a month!!). When the plumbing inspector came out, he said he would never approved of a washer & dryer in the unit cause I do not have 2 inch piping to support the washer. Here is my question to you all out there: 1. Is there anyone out there that has put this unit into a apartment/condo that had a 1 1/2 inch pipe to drain the water. 2. If so, have you had any problems. I know that the law requires a 2 inch pipe for a washer, but these are supposed to be for situations like mine since they don't use as much water. Bosch is NO help with all of this after calling a few times. They said they will never give out a minimum requirement due to being liable if something happens. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get around this, I would really appreciate it. I don't want to cancel the order. Everyone told me to just get the shower passed in the inspection, they repipe in the washer & dryer after the inspector leaves. Thanks in advance, Karen...See MoreIs this an indication of a weak laundry room floor?

Comments (8)Your "luck" was caused by the "installers." I would ask the store manager what he will do sbout the warranties that his guys void especially on top of the costs his guys have already caused...these machines were in the trucks handled by those installers and were damaged by them. You presume the damage happened in transit -yeah, on the last couple of miles to your house-but you can bet they left the factory in perfect appearance condition in a nice new box. These guys screwed up. They thought the smaller box was a pedastal and treated it lousily and probably scratched the larger macine in their haste to pull the packaging off. So the store already has taken a hit that they will try to pass off as a transit cost. Next time when the truck pulls up go out with phone/camera and take pictures before even letting them start with removing anything. In my case the sears guys had the item tied to a truck wall, no packaging and no protection around it and it was trashed...remind them this is the second delivery. Tell them why it is different....See MorePutting a medium sized fridge on a washing machine pedestal?
Comments (25)It is a fine idea. It can hold the weight of a smaller fridge. I did that in our barn. Small fridge with freezer on top puts your crisper drawer on the floor so basically on your knees when getting things in and out. We have a small table and a vintage hoosier kitchen cabinet...the one with the enamel counter and upper glass front cabinet style. We use the 'mini' barn kitchen for lunches, garden produce, barn parties, bbqs. Holds beverages. Great having it up and off the floor and a much better user friendly height. You will love it. We did build ours easily and if i had a small kitchen that only had room for a smaller fridge i would do it again. I considered doing it in our vacation home remodel but have figured a way to fit a good size bottom freezer model. The pic above with the Smeg is a bit odd with the handle so high up....See Morekazmom
