This is what she's chewed up in the last week.

She has a multitude of dog toys and three other dogs to chew on, but for some reason she searches out the unchewable.

4 pair non-prescription readers
2 cell phones (obsolete; forced me to become one of the cool kids: bought an i-phone)
3 bras
4 panties (tmi?)
3 t-shirts
2 pair DH's deck shoes
2 leather belts
1 nylon strap to carry-on luggage
3 pair flip flops
2 rear seat belts
1 table lamp cord--it wasn't plugged in.
4 Crocs, all from different pairs, so I now wear unmatched Crocs to garden
I think that covers it.
He has countless chew toys, stuffed animals, etc. He never chews the little animals. He treats them with total gentleness. He did chew the stuffed fox. Great Pyrenees instincts.

She loves it. She hasn't eaten anything else because so far I've been able to keep an eye on her. She's a 5 month old black lab and we had one before. They are notorious chewers and our other one kept at it until she was almost 2. That one ate the wheels and hose on the shop vac, the oak stair tread and what was really scary - she adored electric cords.

Man, I think we got off light!

Poco is 11 months now so is out of the worst of the puppy-ness. And she seldom truly destroyed things -- just gnawed them markedly. Along the way she has gotten:

the cord to the nunchuck for the Wii
my ipod earbuds (destroyed) and ipod (gnawed on the corners)
remotes for the Tivo and the TV
timpani mallets (chewed the felt off the heads)
DH's badge for work (this was just two weeks ago - it had fallen out of his lunchbox in the carport, so it was fair game!)

We got pretty good pretty quickly about making sure things were put away/out of her reach. But she remains fascinated by wood. She'll dig up rotten tree stumps and drag them around the yard. Or drag around limbs that are 7' long and weigh as much as she does. We'll find collections of pieces of wood in the rock bed by the door. She even dragged the garden gnome from the barn up to the house and put him with her lumber collection. We call her an Alabama Lumber Shepherd.

You and your pups crack me up!!! I'd tear my hair out if we had to replace all those things!

Don't know how/why we've been so lucky but we've had 4 dogs in our marriage and not one has chewed anything - NOTHING! Breeds have been Gordon Setter, Lab, Dalmatian and Chow/Heeler mix so I don't think this is a breed thing. I'm just going to be thankful and keep reading your lists!

Oh, I forgot about pillows! She can't abide a zipper on an accent pillow and will promptly tear out the zipper. If there is no zipper, she will chew the corners off the pillow. She hasn't done this in a while. But it used to be that if left alone for a while you would find that she had pulled all the pillows off the sofa and chairs and put them in a pile.

And then there was the Ugly doll. I have an "Ox" Ugly Doll that sits on our bed, propped on the pillows. Poco, who is NEVER allowed on furniture, went into the bedroom and carefully got him down off the bed and promptly chewed one of his legs off. DH was very clever and cut down a dowel and made Ox a peg leg. The next day Poco got him AGAIN and chewed off his peg leg!

I think she is jealous of Ox, because he gets to sleep in the bed.

We have a "new to us" French Bulldog, age 1-1/2. Apparently not over the chewing phase yet. So far:

- Edges of two wooden stairs.

- A $60 basket from PB that felt like a big splurge, but it fit sooo perfectly on the bottom shelf of my coffee table and looked perfect with stacks of magazines in it. Something about this basket was irresistible to her. Spoke to her harshly, sprayed it with Bitter Apple spray... she just kept going back to it and chewing the edges. Finally had to throw it down in the garage. So mad!

- Every branch, root, etc., that she can find in the yard. Then comes in the house and throws up. Charming.

-Edge of family room rug.

Other than that? She is the Best. Dog. Ever.

i really have tried to houseproof with the shepherd we are raising(5 1/2 mths old) and we use gates so he doesn't have run of the house... he still has gotten some things-- most recently this weekend apparantly got a green magic marker from the table and ran upstairs with it(there's a small bit of hallway he can go to that's ungated from the back stairs...)---several large blots of green ink on the upstairs hallway carpet-thankfully we didn't replace the upstairs carpeting this past spring like i was debating!!

he also got a cookbook, and a couple of pairs of earbuds... and chewed up some baseboard molding when he was 'little'!!

My "pup", has never been a big chewer, however, she has been bad about eating things she shouldn't. The worst was when she was still young, she got a plastic meat wrapper out of the garbage. I had opened the door (garbage is in cabinet), and saw her go after the garbage, but didn't know she actually got something. She ran and hid. A couple of weeks later she started have gi issues and we had her tested. A bit of bacteria did show up in her stool tests, so she was given medication. About another week later, she started scratching at her sides, but we thought it was from a new flea/tick med until she started vomiting. Poor little thing, she was miserable and we were beside ourselves. An x-ray showed a non-solid something in her tummy and I had taken away a toy that she had torn and we thought it was fiberfill. I cried my eyes out over her having surgery. To this day, the meat wrapper is still in her file at the vet. She was quite the topic of conversation for a few days. The wrapper had gotten down in her stomach, going into her intestines. Thankfully it was discovered in time and she had no permanent damage. I felt awful for not knowing she got the wrapper!!! Now, I never throw away a wrapper without putting it in a plastic bag first!

How could I forget this one - we've had 4 Rottweilers in the last 20 years and the only female one used to climb into the bath tub to eat the bar soap. My elder son complained that his brother was using his Mach 3 razor and then throwing the blades away. Well one day I happened to see Cleo heading into the bathroom. I waited a moment and then discovered her eating the Mach 3 blade- not the razor itself, just the blade. Then it occurred to us that she liked the taste of soap!

Solution - we had to buy one of the hanging shower caddies to store the razor and soap.

OMG, I keep seeing scenes from the Marley and Me movie in my mind and can't stop laughing.

Ellie, our new little pup is 4 months old now and I have to say she's been amazingly good...so far. (knock on wood) The only thing she's mangled is the heal of my DH's slipper (which she put back in it's place after she was done) and one of my flip flops has her bite marks on it. We've noticed too that she hasn't destroyed any of her toys yet either. She's really into shredding paper towels though and has learned that if she brings me the pieces, she can trade them for treats. :c) I sure hope it's not just because she's young, reading all these stories about labs has me scared! LOL

ROFL, all - wow! Well, we can all say that our pups of various ages are doing their part to help the economy, with all we have to replace due to their 'decorating' efforts, huh?! Here I'd been thinking that Sierra chose to eat my reading glasses because she somehow knew I hated them, and now find that they are a favorite of several pups! As I tell my two monsters daily, it's really lucky for them that being cute is their stock in trade, and that they're sweet, loving, cheery...and remind myself of that as I clean up the leftover parts of whatever they've torn to bits! I definitely can commiserate.

Anyone come up with an attractive way to incorporate a black metal x-pen into the decor? Christmas bows, maybe? Boughs of greenery would get eaten in a heartbeat! ;-)

I also remind myself that DD was just as destructive as toddler, in her own way, and she outgrew it...By 5 or 6, I'm sure they will, too.

You know those bolt covers that are supposed to be on toilets? We can't keep them on our toilets. Our lab, Murphie, loves to grab them and show us that she has one by bringing one into the family room and tossing them around.

...and paper. She loves kleenex and toilet paper (clean).

Cooper and Bailey have slacked off the eating non- edibles.
We now have a metal trashcan for the back yard with a chain and lock on it. racoons had been knocking over the cans and dragging stuff out and the guys would find a smorgasbord for breakfast.
We got the can in September- after both had eaten lobster shells(yep the one time we cooked lobster. ever.)
Back when Bailey was 1 and 1/2 and Cooper was 6 months- one or both got into a bottle of advil- in the middle of the night- we were lucky- DS came home and woke us up when he came home and found the chewed up bottle on the floor in his room. They both spent the weekend on IVs in the emergency vets. very lucky pups.and expensive too.
and then there was the time when one or both ate two corn cobs- which can be deadly- and we were outside until 3 am waiting for them to through up the emetic the vet said to give.
that resulted in a kitchen trashcan they cant open.
soon after one or both of them ate a pumice stone.Sensing a theme here? Partners in Crime! The vet did xrays and came out and said it was Bailey- but brought me a bag of little rocks she had eaten. So we never did find out who ate the pumice stone- it had crumbled into tiny pieces.( and the vet sent an assistant to buy one to see if it would show up on xray.)
so we not only just about qualified for a diners club card at the vet- Cooper and Bailey had done their bit to advance veterinary research.
so we keep them out of the really bad stuff by dog proofing - but heck they are golden retrievers- so we have piles of sticks in the yard in various stages of chewiness, and they try to bring them in. Bailey steals bits of sandpaper out of the workshop while I am working.And she loves to eat paper- napkins, envelopes, money,as well as pens. Cooper prefers my socks.
oh and as puppies, add anything they could get in their mouths and chew!

I forgot. DH's wallet. Had to notify various bank card and license agencies. ("Yeah, right, your dog ate it.") No money or photos were eaten, which I find fascinating. Then there was the chewed up copyright information from a book I was using as a source for a research project. Countless catalogs and decor magazines. Several rubber gloves and pot holders. Brooms.
