Do you have something to eat from your garden, every day?
Comments (57)"can’t imagine doing without running water for 4 months!" It was . . . interesting. Fortunately, there's both an indoor pool, and a campground nearby that let us use the showers. And a neighbor let us fill jugs at his house. "You use green beans as dried beans? That’s a first! What do they taste like?" Dried beans are basically beans that have been left to get mature. So they just taste like beans to me. They're not as pretty and fun as, say, Vermont Cranberry Beans, and the flavor isn't as specific as most dried bean varieties, and also they're not as big so they don't shell quite as easily. But they're great for a lazy person :) "I guess you cook when you travel. The security check at the airport must be interesting with all that produce in your bag. You don't have a frying pan in there too? [g]" A fry pan -- lol! Well, on road trips I have been known to travel with a salad spinner and Cuisinart :) Always have to have a kitchen. Or someone else's home cooking. Really dislike restaurant food. Self seeded veggies are wonderful. And yes, the ones I mentioned come out good, even if not exactly true to seed, it all tastes good. (though they seem to be true, as well) If you'd have to pay for hay or straw it doesn't seem worth it. Maybe ask a couple neighbors if you can have their grass clippings and/or leaves? (those who don't use herbicides) It sounds like the next few years hold some exciting experimentation for you! You'll have to report back and tell us how it goes. I'd love to hear how you do with fall lettuce and greens if you try them this year....See MoreEvery have a day(s) where you think
Comments (15)Like faerycat, my problem isn't so much "rattiness". It's sloppiness, lol. I just never seem to get around to doing the things that need to be done in spring. The weeding, mulching, transplanting, etc., that, when done early, helps lower the maintenance throughout the summer. So, since it's not done early, by this time, there are beds which I'm just getting around to, and man oh man, are they a mess! Which makes me lose motivation. Sometimes I just sit and stare at them, thinking about what needs to be done, and about what I didn't do, and how I should have done it - and there goes any time I had to actually do anything, lol! But luckily for my own sanity, I can pick out the bright spots in these messes. I can appreciate the plants I planted on purpose, lol, in amongst the tallest weeds, or I can visually separate clashing colors from plants I meant to move because they didn't go well together, etc. The way I look at it, if I didn't (and don't) have the time to organize and maintain things the way they are, I certainly don't have time to rip things out and start again! :) Dee...See Moredo you wash your dishes before you wash your dishes?
Comments (20)One of the reasons to *not* rinse/prewash dishes is if you use an enzyme detergent it needs the food particles to work better. It'll etch glass and stuff if it doesn't have the food particles. I can't explain it well, but it's easy research for a more thorough explanation. Most just recommend scraping the dishes (and really, who wouldn't?!) then into the DW. I haven't had a dishwasher for more than 30 years but I'm starting to miss it. I would get grossed out though when it left stuff on it. When washing by hand and using a good soap it gets clean. Sure, you just put it back in and rewash but it still bugs me. It also bugs me to see people leave dirty dishes in the DW for a week before washing them. Argh! If it takes a week to fill it, you should have a smaller DW or use a top rack only feature. This is what impresses me about the F&P Dish Drawers. And geez, I can wash a few dishes FAR faster than an hour or two for a dishwasher! LOL And when you compare the time to load the dishwasher vs washing, it's pretty close. Time's not a factor. It's the hassle of washing them. I soak my dishes and a quick swish, rinse in HOT water and into the drainer to dry. Putting them away is comparable to time in a DW. Oh, and one thing I found out quickly, the way you load it makes a big difference. You have to learn how the water sprays and make sure it's not blocked for effective washing....See MoreEvery day dishes suggestions needed
Comments (35)I've had the Aspen dinnerware (from Crate and Barrel) about 3 years now, and LOVE IT! It never chips or scratches, even when I have (horrors!) banged it accidentally on the faucet or edge of the counter, it hasn't broken. What I also like is that you can buy pieces individually, so you can add more or different pieces (we have two kinds of bowls, and could have two kinds of mugs if we chose). Also, it is a "generic" white, so I can add in pieces from Target or Homegoods when I like. One other note, I have some Palms pieces from Homegoods, and they do chip. Grrr....See Morewhitdobe
