Anyone have a GE Profile Colossal Capacity Washer?

Hello! I have started the search for a new washer and dryer. I don't think I want a FL. I sometimes am running around so much I forget to take the load out right away and I have heard icky smell stories.

I liked the TL Bravo's but after reading reviews on them, I think I will pass. I don't need fancy but I would like as large a capacity as I can find. Has anyone used the GE Profile Colossal Capacity Washer? Any other suggestions?

Icky smells are not from forgeting laundry in the machine,unless you leave it there for days.
It is combination of things.
Luck of use of HOT water, improper dosing on detergents. Not properly rinsed laundry.Detergent choice didn't cause me any trouble either.Powder or liquid,cheap or expensive. The only diference I saw was inthe cleaning power.Now I'm using Persil only, hot cycles and sanitizing only.
I never use tub clean or bleach and I don't wipe the rubber seal,I just check it sometimes b/c little lint builds up there. No mildew,no smell. I leave the door open in between washing and I clean pump filter. That's all.
I've been using FL for over 30 years without smell.

Most of the smell problems were related to early maytag Neptune products which are no longer made.

FLs are excellent, my recommendation are the Whirlpool-built platform which is the Duet, Kenmore, maytag, and Kitchenaid brands.

IMO, GE does a lot of things well, but laundry is not one of them.

buy the extended warranty.....always

I had a GE Profile PDW7800 about 4 years ago and it only lasted about 1.5 years. It had continual problems with the intake pump (making a loud noise when filling with water) and the upper rack rollers would ware out and would not roll. Both parts were replaced about 5 times over the 1.5 years that I had it. One of the guys that came out to do the repairs said these were common issues on a lot of GE dishwasher, even the highest-end unit. After all the repairs, Lowes agreed to give me an in-store credit, which I used for an Electrolux wave-touch dishwasher, but it had some issues too and only lasted about 6 weeks and had 4 repairs. Lowes took it back and at that point did a refund back. I was without a DW for about 1.5 years since then, but last month got the Miele Diamante G2143SC. I've had absolutely no issues with it. It is quieter, cleans better, and is built better. If you're looking to spend $1000+ on a GE Profile/Cafe, I'd recommend spending a little more for the Miele.

I purchased the washer two weeks ago from Home Depot and unfortunately we have had problems just connecting the drainage hose. The hose is not long enough to reach the drain pipe. We had a plumber/friend come by and add an extension and he did a lousy job - flooded the basement! He then made a few adjustments and we thought it was all set, so I did my first load of whites last night - I was so excited to be using my new washer, well the hose let go and flooded the basement again. As for the washer itself, it was so quiet and my clothes did seem to be clean. I spent a lot of time researching washers and picked this one because I read many good reviews on the Home Depot and Lowes or Sears websites. So my only advice is to make sure the drainage hose is long enough to reach your drain pipe or sink. I also noticed that the drainge hose did not come with an end that is hooked to fit into the drainage pipe - I think if it had then it would have fit. We are calling an appliance repair man to come out (soon- I hope). Good luck.

Yes, it does have an internal heater. Per the manual if your house hot water heater isn't set to 120 degrees or higher or if the washer is far from the water heater, a load can take up to 30 minutes longer. (I always run water in a nearby sink until it is hot to ensure that the washer gets hot water quickly.) You cannot use hot water on every cycle. You can pull up a copy of the manual on the web and there is a chart showing what the cycle and temp choices are. The manual does not mention profile washes, it could be that the water heater is there strictly to create steam during the steam cycle washes which are about a half hour longer than the regular washes. I am sure that if you asked Electrolux via email they would answer any questions you have. If you have an unusually long dryer vent, I would look into the matching Electrolux Dryer, The reviews of the dryer are quite nice.

We have recently seen a big rise in sales of the new colossal capacity units and so far(4 months or so, so not very long) so good. A few customers who have called in have said they love them because of a few of their more interesting features. appliancedude is correct when he says buy warranties on these. Hopefully you'll never use them but with the cost of parts and service it's a no brainer.

I do agree though from a long term stand point that the whirlpool platform units(under it's many labels) is the better unit. We have had fewer problems then average with them outside of the occasional control board issue, but still strong machines

I've had these units since December 08 and posted a "First Impressions" a while back that you can search for. I love them! No problems yet. I did get the service contracts for them for 99.00 ea w/ Home depot.

For a reliable no-frills top loader there is only one choice and that is Speed Queen.

I've only had one good GE washer, and that was several decades ago. Since then, every GE appliance I've owned has been nothing but junk. My cousin has the complete GE Profile line of appliances - they came with her new home - and she is not happy with several of them.

I have a Maytag Bravos w/d set and am extremely happy with them. I have relatives who absolutely love their Whirlpool TL's - they do say the top of the line TL washers are the only ones they will consider. If you can find a repairman who is totally unbiased, that would be a great resource. I needed a larger capacity than what Speed Queen makes, plus I wanted more features.

I must amend my last message. I do have a GE fridge which is the best fridge I've ever owned.

The GE lemons I've owned were washer, dryer, dishwasher, and range.
