Oh my! Spied this swinging single, I used to know

And the aging process did not serve him well.

We used to be in the same singles group, and all the women sought his company, including ME! Though I never got his attention, then.

We're the same age, but goodness!

He's had a face lift, does not look good at all, thinned hair and looks like he teased it to stand up. Noticed he's no longer wearing a wedding band.

Didn't speak to him, but I did gawk!

Sure hope my aging process looks better on me than his does on him.

Big sigh!

There's something about a man who tries too hard, not accepting aging with a little grace and dignity - so superficial. Give me a confidant man with a bit of a pouch ? thinning hair? a hearing aid? who is happy and content with his life and can offer more than 'show' any day!

I doubt if he's single because his face lift didn't go well, the man may have no depth or character...

Ok..Let me see if I can help you too here since I can honestly say I never have any issues with mine unless 'I' make a mistake. South facing window? Very good! Stop the hydrogen peroxide. There is no need for it if your mix was made correctly. Remember. TOO much air to the roots is not good either. Use vinegar instead at 1 tablespoon per gallon of water to unlock the nutrients in your mix if for some reason you are using a high pH solution, that being your tap water. Did you somehow let your tree overly dry out at least ONCE? Yes, it only takes once on gardenia for fine roots to rot if you have waited until it wilted. But many will survive the first round. It can take a while to recoop while it can looses many leaves and roots. Forget a second time, you can say farewell to it. I am not kidding. They are one of the only plants I own that can not take wilt, no matter what the books say. I don't believe though that rot is your issue at this point no matter what you think or you would not have such nice white roots at all. If you are using the gritty mix and not sure of how to water, and yes, after all this time, you need to go back to the wooden dowel method. Don't be afraid to depend on this method for certain plants, I still do. Your fertilizing method is ok, but right now I would stop all together until the roots start doing their job properly again. Or, until the vinegar treatment corrects your issue. I would put a layer of pine mulch on top to protect the upper roots as the lower roots tend to dry out slower and teh top faster. That is what I do and it workd wonders. I never have top root death and can hold off longer on watering to give the lower roots a chance to dry out at the same time as the top. Ruby, I would not be concerned about the bark. The fact that you have bottom roots that look nice and healthy while the top is dry, tells me you are holding more moisture below the surface than on the top. I showed you how to fix that. Now, as for rot and why I think it's not that?....If you had root rot, your leaves would fall a deep yellow and not look like that. To me, it looks more like your tree is in need of nutrients, a nutrient defficiency, locked up by using a water solution too high in pH. That should be corrected without fertilizer at this point. Just use vinegar and water when you water next time. Soooooo 1. Don't worry about your mix. It has done fine for you, and should continue to do so for another year or two. 2. Your fertilizer is fine, just hold off until the pH of your mix is corrected. 3. Don't worry about the bark. 4. Get a wooden dowel and use that until you get the your watering practice corrected now that your tree is in-doors. 5. Keep your plant where it is, in good sunlight. 6. Cover the top of your mix with a light layer of pine mulch or just extra bark for added top moisture. And 7. Relax. If your plant is keeping many leaves, which it seems to me, not all is loss. Kristin, If you want to put a row cover on your plants, you can but I am not sure it will help since they (or their eggs) are likely to be all over the plants, and even underneath the plants. Check the backs of leaves for eggs and remove them and destroy them and that will go a long way to cut down on the population, especially with regards to squash bugs. I don't worry about cucumber beetles although, technically, they can carry and spread disease, although in my garden they generally don't. It could be that I have a healthy population of beneficial insects that keep their numbers low for me. I'd be more concerned about squash bugs, and especially about stink bugs if they show up too. One way to get the squash bugs is to go outside with a small hand-held vaccum and vacuum them up off the plants. It works like a charm, especially when they are young and small and don't have the sense to run away when they see you coming. Another way is to lay a board or shingle down on the ground right beside the squash plants. The squash bugs will seek shelter under that board during the heat of the day and then all you have to do is lift the board and step on them and squish them. Simple as pie If you put a small container of water in your garden (something like the saucer to a flower pot or an aluminum pie tin), it will help attract toads, frogs, lizards and other beneficial creatures that like to eat bugs. I have a bird feeder and bird bath in my garden too, and the birds that come to visit them often sit on the garden fence or on the scarecrow (who apparently does not scare them) or on the tomato cages and eat bugs throughout the day. Some people sprinkle garlic (chopped and minced by their own hand, or purchased garlic powder) on the ground around their squash and cucumber plants, and feel it helps repel the squash vine borers, squash bugs and cucumber beetles. You might give that a try. Don't worry about monoplizing the board. You are using it exactly as it is meant to be used and it gives us more to talk about on hot days when we may choose to spend less time out in the garden and more time inside in the air conditioning! Good morning! I too try to visualize people and it rarely, if ever, works out. it is nice to put faces to names. Shirley, still thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers. i know that's your daughter, brittney and dawson -- who are the others (inquiring nosey minds want to know) and as for your mom, you never know what the next roommate may be, perhaps you can hold off on the move until you see what comes in LOL, however, I think I'd want to be with my own and her secrets kept!!!! annie your dogs are beautiful, as are you. my aunt and uncle, for as long as i can remember, were the first home for service dogs until they were ready to go into training. they had several different dogs from what i recall. sorry about your lizzie...i know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet. my next dog is going to be a shepherd, but it's been decided that we will only have one dog at a time now, so I have to wait my turn. (we'll see) i made an anniversary cake for a group i belong to, it was our 7 year anniversary so i made this massive cake. i filled it with alternating layers of buttercream and lemon curd, and dang, if it was not tasty. I was able to take a slice home for the family to taste and seriously wish there had been more leftover, would have made a nice breakfast!!!! a real nice combination, even though it started out that i was going to use raspberry as well...i just couldn't get enough to cook them down to make a nice sauce/filling. it's still so cold and seems to be staying that way until at least next week, when it's supposed to go to the high 40's, with rain. by then, i'll think it's summer. this cold is bone chilling and of course, they are calling for more snow. we haven't got much of it, but.....this year it is bothering me like mad! i shouldn't complain, there are parts of the country that are in the negatives, so i'll just keep my mouth shut on this subject any further! so whose left to post their pic? come out. come out whereever you are! speaking of which, jeanne, how are those triplets of late? is mary ellen still a part of this group? i feel like i haven't seen her in a long time...maybe since she became a grandmom, or right before that? hae a nice thursday! maryanne

What a nice yard sale find. Well actually it was a 'moving' sale, and I spied the tomato plants all loaded down and asked for a few, and was told to help myself as several others had too. I asked if the nice concrete wire tomato cages might be for sale. "No." How about the big old iron wagon wheel (in a flower bed)? "No." The doghouse? "No."

No, my mouth dropped wide open!

He used to be "an eye catcher" in a good sense, now an "eye catcher" in not such a good way.

Although he carried himself fairly well, as he was a golfer back then. That must have helped him, but I would doubt he could swing at a ball now, and hit it.

Wow, hard for me to believe.

There was a group that I joined and it was fun for a while.

Funny lots of us would stay out until the wee hours of Sunday am, and then see eachother at the singles Sunday School class in church :o)

Well, here's the truth. Now that I'm older I understand why older men go for younger women. It's because they don't find us older women attractive. But you know what, I don't find older men attractive either. They wrinkle sag and look just as frumpy as women their own age--they just don't realize it.

There I said it and I'm glad I did!!

Actually, for the most part, I think the women age better than men. We can still have the zippy hairdo's, make up and great clothes. The men have to rely on comb-overs and au natural...not so good. Well, there's always the money. LOL

you talking about how that guy looks reminded me of a joke I heard recently

A couple decided to go to Las Vegas for a week for their 25th Wedding Anniversary
As they were checking into the motel a cute young blonde came over and got rather friendly with the man and he quickly and rather tersley sent her on her way.
His wife says, "You need not be so rude to that girl, she was only being friendly"
He says"friendly my foot, she was a hooker and when we get to our room I'll prove it."
So then got to the room and hubby tells his wife to wait in the bathroom, out of sight, and he called the desk and asked them to send Bambi up to his room.
When Bambi arrived the man asked her how much her fee was, and she replied $125 plus tips for extras. He says, I was thinking more along the lines of $20, and with that the girl quickly left the room. The wife came out of the bathroom totally amazed, then later the man & his wife were sitting at the bar and having a drink when Bambi walks up and boldly says.."See what you get for $20".

Old single men....what can I say. Some are just out of kilter- except for Ole Joyful of course who is a pleasure to know and full of wonderful wisdom and stories...could talk to you all day. I would deem you my spiritual friend. A woman would be lucky to have you.

But joyful, what Glenda has experienced is so common among single men of a certain mindset. Yuck. It is sad that we laugh at them but Patti43 said it all. They don't want us and I don't want them who think they are all that.

I think married men who love their wives and have that wonderful 52 years of marriage like Georgysmom has are different. The family unit and the love keep these men centered. As they say, the love of a good woman...

I can verify this with my own ex huband who found the right woman for him. It is true. He is a happy, loving husband to his wife. And he keeps in shape for her. But that part is irrelevant. He shares a great love.

Glenda, think of him in a speedo. I wish you had gotten a picture.

Ladies, seems to me that we being a little bigoted here.

How many women have the confidence to go au natural through life. We freak out at the sight of the first grey hair, wrinkle or sagging chin. There is nothing more ridiculous than an 80 year old women with red, (or black) hair! We still use gallons of makeup to paint our selves up to look younger, etc, etc. For what?? To build our self confidence when we go out in public. An attempt to fool ourselves and others into believing that we are still attractive. And sometimes we do it very badly. LOL! Why critize a man for doing the same thing.

Don't have it in my aging years!

But I can still enjoy the memories!

I wasn't as swinging as some of them :o) and in today's world swinging single is a lot different to back then, I feel certain!

Ha Ha my thoughts are same as Chloe's..I'd be worried that he was thinking the same thing about me.....Since I was single I have aged a good bit, I'm looking old and tired and my hair is gray and honestly, I've gained about 40 lbs.....I'd be hesitant to start telling my friends how old someone looked....I'm pretty sure I'm just a few months older than you and I sure am showing my age....

Don't downslide.

I admit that when I read your post quickly I thought he was full of himself when you saw him. Didn't see him as distressed. I am so sorry about that. But the posts about this have been interesting.

Women putting themselves down because they have changed.
That isn't you, Glenda. You love to laugh and see the silly side.

I know women who were close to me who have married in their 60s and 70s. My grandmother was one and my ex MIL was another. They didn't wear a ton of makeup -just a good haircut (their hair was grey) some lipstick and an addictive smile. Oh, and lovely crows feet that showed they had laughed a lot in their life.

Recently, at the farmers market in Olde Towne an older couple got married by the fresh coffee where they met a couple of years ago. Everyone cheered. What a glorious lesson.

From what I have seen, it's 2 good people who are lucky to find each other and their eyes and their cheerful nature show how grand it is in the here and now.

I agree, Glenda. Some people have too much time on their hands. Maybe Glenda was gloating a little, but I have done the same thing. Maybe that makes me a shallow person easily judged by those more righteous, or maybe that just makes me human.
