Getting out Mildew smell from colored laundry items
Comments (4)Before you wash the clothes again, smell the washer. If it is stinky, run an empty load with HOT water and bleach. Leave the lid/door open between loads. As for the the smelly items, wash or soak them in as warm/hot water as you dare and add BORAX, like Borateem. I have found this laundry additive to be quite effective on smells -- so have many mothers who wash cloth diapers. Good luck....See MoreGetting Rid of Smells in Furntiure
Comments (4)Sunshine and fresh air! The next sunny day you have drag everything outside in the morning. Take it apart as much as you can (such as removing cushions, opening the recliner, etc.) and spread it out on your patio or on a sheet in the grass. Let it bake out there for several hours, all day if you can, and bring it all in again at dusk. While it's out there, be sure to throw open the shades and windows in that room to air it out as well. Professional cleaning helps, but I find good old-fashioned sunshine kills odors (and the bacteria behind them) naturally and thoroughly....See Moreridding jacket of mildew smell
Comments (4)If it is mold or mildew, bleach added to the wash water will kill it. Mildew and mold are living organisms and you must kill them and their spores. You do not need to use a whole lot of bleach, just a little added to your laundry. Also use HOT water. If you think the jacket will fade too much by using bleach try washing it with ammonia instead of bleach added to your detergent. Do not wash it in soap! Use detergent. Soap leaves a residue that begans attracting odors. I like Tide. Tide seems to remove odors quite well and they even have different light "springtime" scents, that remain on the clothing after you wash them....See MoreMusty Smell... How do I get rid of it???
Comments (2)It isn't crazy, but I don't think it will work. :) It is possible the odor is in the leather and it just isn't going to come out. If it were mine, I would use a leather cleaner that has some sort of scent to it. Then I would buy several bars of soap with a strong scent - Irish Spring or some nice lavender soap - and unwrap the bars of soap, put them in the bag and leave them there for a few days or a week. Or sachets sold in places like Yankee Candle company - that would give you a choice of scents. The idea is to overwhelm the current scent with a new scent....See Moreczechchick2
