Oh my! That is an incredible transformation! You must be BESIDE YOURSELF with glee that you have such a fabulous space and have rid yourself of all those flowers! Not that flowers aren't wonderful, but I certainly prefer REAL flowers over wallpapered ones! Please tell us the details and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!....oh, and isn't this the kitchen with the clever (and acrobatic) dog?! I guess EVERYONE is loving the new space!

Thanks everyone! :) It's feels good to be done... traci29: This is a new custom house not just a remodel. All in all, from start, permits etc, to moved in finished it was 1 year!!! And yeah, it's nuts doing it with young kids, I am exhausted. Time to enjoy now! lovlilynne: Those were probably my pendants you saw a while back, I had posted some progress pics and had some requests about them. They are from Canadian Tire here in Canada. brutuses: The paint is from BEHR and is called Clay Pebble, I really love it! odiegirl13: I'd have to check the flooring, I don't remember the manufacturer. THe range, I like because it's dual fuel, which I've always wanted. I'm not fond of the touch screen, it's too sensitive, but I guess I need to get used to it. rhome410: Thank you, that means a lot coming from you! I will take pics once I clean up a little bit more, promise :)

Hi Scrappy25, I'm not sure how tall the soffits were but they seemed huge! We took down two soffits. One soffit was in a wall that we took out (now it's an archway and a peninsula). What you see now is just trim - we just ordered some stuff and played around with what would look best above the cabinetry. I definitely knew I wanted top of the molding to match the rest of the house, so the carpenter recreated the original molding for the new space - we just needed to fill a small gap (since the cabinets were semi but not custom),so that's when we played around with other molding pieces. The space between the top of the cabinets and the ceiling is nothing compared to the soffits that were there before. The house is 1940 - so nothing is even. So everything was a challenge! However, we had to leave the soffit above the sink - I just had the carpenter make the soffit itself smaller - then we added trim over the soffit above the sink. That's why the two walls look different if you're really staring at them. But most people come to the house and just love the overall kitchen. I'm really happy with how it turned out - we did the best we could with what we had, under a certain budget. It's always a game of give-and-take! The hood - I believe it's the AK2500S Zephyr Power Series Hurricane 30" Under Cabinet Hood. God luck, and happy kitchen planning!

Hello Marie Thanks for the compliments. I luv my kitchen. :) There are 8 cams in main kitchen area. As you can see in the first pic above, they are centered over the island and the walkway areas, so the spacing was dictated by those dimensions in the kitchen. I think they are 6" - but truthfully, I just told the electrician how many cams I wanted and they did the rest. The only choice he asked me about was the baffles and I chose white to make them blend in better with the white ceiling. They supplied them so I don't know the manufacturer. I have absolutely no glare - just lots of glorious light when I want it. Most of the time I just use the ones over the island, but I can really light things up if I want to! I suppose I am not really answering your spacing questions very well, am I? :) I would advise that it would be best to have more lighting than you think you may need ... you can always turn lights off or not use them ... but if you don't have enough, it's miserable. Been there, done that. :) I love my potfiller and use it constantly - even more so than I thought I would. It is a worthwhile luxury for me and I am sooooo glad I have it. It is a Kohler. HTH, MaryT

Very nice. I thought I recognized that wallpaper, my parents had it in their house for many years, it is a tad busy.

I will post more details soon, however to answer a few questions;
try_hard the overhang is about 11 in.
flyleft the fixtures are Minka Lavery and Emily does indeed still rock the house (just ask her she'll tell you)

It doesn't look like the same kitchen. You've done an amazing job of turning it into a showplace. I really like the glass door cabinets on either side of the rangetop. Nice....

Could just be the most dramatic transformation I've ever seen. How did you live with the old space for SEVEN years? It's simply beautiful, all of it. Terrific job, enjoy. Love the pooch (Italian greyhound?) although in that photo, he resembles a meerkat!

I wish my dogs had to jump to reach the counters. They just walk by and rest their heads there to see what's cooking.

Love that Kitchen!!! I so wanted to do a differnt color island than my wall cabs, and chickened out at the last minute. It looks soooo beautiful! Anyway- I have the same cabinet style doors and I've been frozen on the style knobs for like 3 months, what kind are yours?

Could you post a pic showing your stair risers? Or at least tell us what the risers are made of- did you use slate for those, or wood...?

P.S. Really like what you did with the garland above your lights? How do you do that and not have it burn?

I have three questions.

1) what is the size of the island.
2) What are the dimesions on the length of the kitchen from the end of the fridge down to the end of the cabinets (By the christmas tree) and the width of kitchen (from christmas tree wall to double oven wall.
3) what model fridge is that?

Can you tell me about the light fixtures? Are the shades glass? Are they from the 1730 Series by Minka-Lavery? I really like the shape of them and the color.

todds: Island is 3.25 x 7.75 (thats the cabinets not the granite). Length of run from fridge to end is 14 ft approx.
width from oven wall to fridge wall is 13.5 ft
The fridge is kitchenaid french door built in 42" with custom panels. Sorry don't know the model
