Gap Between Crown Molding and Ceiling

I just returned from vacation and noticed between my crown molding and the ceiling, the caulk line separated for about 24" in length and left a small gap. I assume this is from wood expansion or settling. I now have a very small gap between the ceiling and molding with "jagged" looking caulk. My thought is to get a knife and carefully remove the caulk and then re-caulk between the ceiling and crown molding. Does this sound OK? Thanks for your usual great advice!
