Blanco Silgranit drop in Kitchen sink but undermounted
Comments (5)I wish I knew how to post the pics. I was unsure about the undermount, until the Cambria installer came to make the template, he had a glack silgranit sink in his truck, after looking at it in the sunlight, I was hooked, this is a beautiful sink. But very worrisome and iffy on the undermount install. He told me he had never had one complaint on the many had had done. After two days of back and forth on my part, he said "just do it, you will love it". So, I did it. And I have not regretted it, it is beautiful. Wish I was not such a dummy when it comes to uploading the pics....See MoreSilgranite vs. stainless kitchen sink
Comments (29)The water is pretty dumb where I live and can't find it's way to the drain unless it runs downhill. Probably 99% of the sinks these days are installed in dead flat counter tops, and spills easily drip to the floor. With top mounts, splashes have to jump over the rim to get into the sink. Even with bottom mounts (in addition to their other problems) splashes are just as likely to find their way to the floor as into the sink. My favorite sink was in my first house: a cast iron monster with 2 drainboards and a foot-high backsplash. No seams to gather wet gunk. My second sink was stainless, totally seamless with the counter top and backsplash -- a custom job by the former owner. In my current house, I've had to make do with a stainless sink that has only one drainboard. But I want something better. I love the Clarion Farmhouse Drainboard Sink. It's like my first one, but too overpowering for my current kitchen. Ditto the many styles of commercial sinks. Then I found the Elkay Lustertone Series. It has 2 drainboards and I can fit a dishwasher under one of them. It has a modified raised lip. It has an integrated backsplash -- though I wish it were a little higher so that I could install a wall faucet through it. And it can replace an entire 6 feet of countertop surface, thereby mitigating its cost. The kitchen is still in the planning phase, but I know which sink I'll be buying. Take a look at it before deciding on Silgranite or the more common stainless sinks. Comments (9)Thanks funky! I think you are just confirming what I already know - that I should stick with the single bowl, even if it is stainless. They do sell the single bowl Domsjo, but it's only 24" vs 36". I don't really want to size down to the 24" as then I'll have wasted space in the sink cabinet, or have to deal with 6" fillers on either side. Maybe I should reconsider that though :/ Thanks for the info on undermounting in laminate. I think we are just not that brave. I wish we could spring for the granite, but with our first baby coming in July it would not be a smart move....See MoreDurable Sinks - White vs. Dark, Undermount vs. Drop in
Comments (10)Hi Joseph....I was hoping you'd respond! :). I'm an avid fan of yours (blush). We prefer an undermount sink because it's easier to wipe counters off onto the sink and as well because the emphasis will be on the countertop (Cristallo quartzite with gold and copper veining). The only reason we are considering a top mount (which we have now) is because it's easier to replace the sink (hubby might be able to do himself), should it need to be replaced in the future. I'm a bit of an OCD when it comes to the house/kitchen looking pristine all the time (and I both cook and bake A LOT). We are having a difficult time deciding on what sink (Brand, etc.) and color to get. White is out of the question as it's too intrusive next to our stone. Hubby wants a copper (my original idea), but two factors for us to consider is: We have hard water, and heard that may spot the sink, and also PRICE. Paying 2-3K for a sink is out of the question (financially) for us. We are stomped! Our kitchen cabinets are honey maple, our island (in works right now) will be a creamy white color, and then we have the Cristallo quartzite....See Moredesertsteph
