I agree with you angelaid. I'm not into meat that wasn't obtained from the grocery store.

I also dont like anything gamey tasting, although I've never tasted it. Just the thought, ick!

Cottage Cheese - never tasted it and never will. I know I hate it. It looks like curdled milk.

Buttermilk - Same as cottage cheese. The lumps and smell are just nasty.

Liver - gross. Sorry for what I'm going to say, but it looks like a big blood clot.

LOL I love venison. I have a friend back in NH that hit a deer on the way to work early one morning. He called his wife to come pick up the deer and take it to the butcher.

Veal is at the top of my list. Tripe os second on my list. Squid is another that I just can't eat, but I'll eat oysters on the half shell and anything else from the sea. One of my customers brought me fried frogs legs for lunch a while back. Well it didn't taste like chicken and I won't be ordering them for lunch anytime soon.
Parsnips is probably the only veggie I've never tried.

steph, Are you sure you've never had lasagna with cottage cheese in it? It really doesn't taste like curdled milk in the least. It's kind of yummy; I just had some for lunch. And, bet you've had buttermilk in baked goods and didn't know it either. The best choc. cake I've even had was made with buttermilk.

Frog legs. Everyone says it tastes like chicken - SO EAT CHICKEN!!!

City girl here too. When we were newlyweds, we went to spend a weekend at DH;s uncles farm. I almost died of starvation and thirst befere we got back home in the city, and his uncle must have wondered what the he!! did his nephew marry. LOL. On the farm, they drank...gasp! well water and fresh milk. I almost ate the meat at supper untill uncle mentioned it was from the deer he got during the last hunting season. Then I found out the eggs, made for breakfast, just a little while ago were under the hen!!!
Well, I've grown up.....some. Still wouldn't drink fresh milk or venison. Also don't want any innards or squid. Also won't eat lamb or veal because they were baby animals.
Oh, Uncle Glen decided I wasn't too bad and learned to like me. LOL dottie

I hear you Joan, NO lutefisk here either. I cooked some once for the ex and it smelled so gosh-awful. Ex said it was okay to toss it. Thought I'd give the dog a taste because she liked eating awful things. She took the pan outside and buried it! Most of the other things I've tried and actually liked - except for bugs. No bugs for me, ever. When DS would go to his dad's for weekend visitation, he liked stopping at a store there to get "cricket lickets", a clear lollypop with a cricket inside, and a bag of chili-flavored larva crisps. He insisted on eating them in front of me - tooooo gross!

I will never eat the testicles of any animal. You can call them "mountain oysters" or anything else if it makes it easier for YOU to swallow them, but I ain't puttin' critter testicles in my mouth. Not now. Not ever.

Very few. I find that I really like most anything. Of course, there are a few that I'm not jumping up and down to get to.

I agree! Once when my mother and I were in Deadwood, we went to our favorite restaurant to eat. They said before they seated us that they were out of Rocky Mt. Oysters. I said people actually order that? She said it's surprising how many people eat them.

Despite it being the "in" thing out here, I have tried or ever will try sushi. Yuck! Also hate tuna, salmon, or anything tasting fishy, and only like creamed spinach, not any other kind.

When I was a little girl Grammy made something called Finn and Hattie with dried cod in a white sauce and on the Fourth of July salmon (canned) and peas (fresh from the garden). I never tried them but I still don't want to.

Liver. Mom used to tell me all kinds of things to get me to eat it. I'd drop it 'on accident' for the dog. She'd pick up my plate, and there'd be a ring of liver under it. I hated it then and I won't even try it now.

It's actually "finnan haddie", smoked haddock. Smoked cod is often treated the same way. It's often poached in milk and served for breakfast. I actually like haddock, but no finnan haddie is going to pass my lips - firstly, it's smoked, second it's breakfast! The DH has to get it when we're in GB. He likes kippers for breakfast too. ICK!

I am extremely picky about food. I eat chicken, turkey, beef and pork. I have tasted venison but wouldn't eat it again. Ditto duck and goose. I would never eat game like possums, coons, or bear. I wouldn't eat rattlesnake...ditto on alligator. I will eat shrimp and oysters and other seafood, but no fishy tasting fish. And when I eat seafood, it has to be fresh...and I mean really fresh...like right off the boat...preferably our boat. I cook with milk but I don't drink it. Ditto on buttermilk. I don't eat peanut butter or drink coffee or eat beets, pickled anything except
Claussen dills, eggs except very mixed with other stuff like in potato salad. Cooked tomatoes, cooked fruit....I could go on and on.

Pickled herring in sour cream. ECK! It even looks disgusting!

Hog Brains. My dad used to eat these, and I just could not do it...ever!

Fish roe...fish eggs...eck again!

I grew up on a farm where we buthchered our own meat and liked most of it. Tongue, liver, head cheese are all delicacies, especially Grandmas home made liver sausage. But, I do have to draw the line at chicken gizzards and raw fish. Come on.... isn't that why we made such a big deal about discovering fire eons ago; so we don't have to eat raw meat.

There are a lot of things mentioned here that I will not try but one thing that comes to mind is Tripe. Yuck!!

Msmarion-I don't know the laws are in NH but here in TX it is against the law to pick up a dead deer off the highway,even if you were the one that killed it.I think even before you can have one butchered you have to show proof that you were actually deer hunting when it was killed.
There's a heavy fine,besides the fact that one is breaking the law.Don't think it would be worth it to me to take the risk.It would be my luck there would be a Game Warden behind a tree!LOL

At first I thought there was nothing I would never try but I have to say after reading the above posts that there are a few things. Of course, if they put animal testicles in bologna and hot dogs (which I'm pretty sure they do) then that cancels out that one right off the top. However, I would never knowingly just eat animal testicles. Would not try intesitines, pig feet or snout, animal brains.

Now I won't say I'd never eat insects because if I get stranded somewhere in the desert and that's all I can catch and I'm dying of hunger, well, I would probably eat just about anything.

No raw oysters-had a friend who almost died from a bad one. That did it for moi. No tripe, brains, tongue. If I had a chef and those were the only things he/she served, I would finally get rid of the pounds I gained in this past year!!!

Now there's a thought. Are chefs really expensive? How can I get an intern?

I eat and like so many of the things that others have listed.

For me it's all a texture thing. I won't eat anything slimey like head cheese. Now if you served me a chunk of meat taken from a hogs head I'd be fine.

So for me it's not what it is but how it's prepared.

carla, I know I've never had lasagne with cottage cheese, only Ricotta cheese. There's just something about cottage cheese that grosses me out.

And buttermilk, I dont mind it being baked or cooked into things. My great grandmother used to make fried chicken with it, and my mom does still, and it's the best, but there is no way I'd ever taste it by itself.

Seems like something wrong with a law that says you have to throw away a carcass that you have killed accidentally, but can shoot it with a weapon and then it's fine to eat.... What do I know....there MUST be a reason????

I agree that I can't imagine eating the Rocky Mountain oysters...I even think there's another dish made from the REST of the male cow genitals, too, which I also would not eat. I think its probably safe for me to include ANY animal's genitals on my list.

DH and DS both really like Menudo. I have made it in the past but it stinks something horrible. Their are many other mexican foods that make me say "Thats not meant to be eaten!"

What makes me giggle is that I have tried most of the things on this list and I really like most of them. The only thing I am a little askired of trying is brains, but if it is in front of me I would try a little just so I can say I did. I haven't yet tried the rocky mountain oysters, frog legs, or headcheese, but I would try them all. I love cottage cheese and buttermilk and sushi and chicken innards. What a freak! It helps that I grew up with a mom that made us try everything and I currently have very adventurous friends. The one thing I tried and will never touch again is Uni (sea urchin). My friends love it but I think it is one of the most rank things I have ever tried. Salty and fishy and mushy. Ugh!

I've always lived in a land locked state. Seafood is nasty to me unless I'm someplace near an ocean where you can get the fresh stuff.

The problem with venison is a lot of people don't prepare it correctly. You have to soak it in saltwater to get the blood out otherwise it is gamey.

Ate as a child (or was made, at least, to try) and will never, ever eat as an adult: brussells sprouts, liver, thuringer (? some type of big sausage with HUGE visible gunks of fat.) I'll also never eat anchoveys, organ meat, little yucky fish in tins (sardines, etc), eels, oysters, or anything with a head still on it.

We didn't eat too many wierd things when I was growing up, except the above. But I remember that my Czech grandmother talked fondly about blood soup and she also ate lard sandwiches (bread smeared with lard, then drizzled with chopped parsley). No wonder heart disease runs in the family!

99.9% of any offal.......yuk!
