Very funny! I am beyond the "advertising age" but did need to use a shaper last September for very dear Step DD wedding. I worked out & dieted & worked out & dieted my da&M #SS still needed help! I got a shaper at a dept store & it did the trick! My DH had no clue that I was wearing one. I will say that I was impressed that the shaper was not hot or uncomfortable at all night - we danced & had fun & all was good.

I don't see any difference between them and make up. :)

I have Spanx that I got for a wedding. They don't really make you look a lot thinner, they just smooth out all the lumps and bumps.

Mine go from right under the bra almost to the knee. I have only worn them a few times and I hate them. Last wedding I wore them too, I went to the bathroom during the reception and took them off and shoved them in my purse! LOL. They are not comfortable.

I always wondered about the false advertising thing with the padded push-up bras!

When I was a teenager my mother told me a story about a date she went on when she was younger.

Seems her date was a breast man and couldn't seem to stop staring and touching her busty sweater. At the end of the date, after he tried once more to access what was under the cashmere, she reached in, pulled out her falsies and handed them to him saying "here, if you like them so much, they're yours." Yes, my mother had a sense of humor. LOL

Yep me too. A girdle is a girdle no matter what name you give it.

I remember when panty hose came out how liberating they were. Same with those horrible over-structured bras stitched into cones or heavily padded. Who would have thunk that girdles and stand along bras would return as something "new" for this generation of girls and women?

Sadly they even have padded bras in the little girls department. What message is being sent and who sending it?

I wore a girdle in HS when I had to wear nylons. I was skinny and yet this was part of the "uniform". I remember getting my first bra at about 13. I hated it and asked my mother if I had to wear this the rest of my life. Well, when pantyhose came on the scene, the girdle went in the garbage never to be replaced. Now I don't wear pantyhose either...hate them and only wear a bra in public, not at home.

HOSTAPASTA,what did you wear that made the difference?
I tried one on and it was to cover my thighs, waist and my midrift and then there were straps that went around my bra.
I was like a couple of pigs in a sack. I wrestled with it in the dressing room until the sales clerk came and said "OK that's enough."

Falsies - I'd forgotten about those. My mother used to wear them too. Jodi, I could see my mother doing the same thing yours did. That is so funny!!

I wear spanx or a similar product 90% of the time if I am leaving the house. I don't even realize I have them on, sounds like either the wrong product of the wrong size is being used. I think it makes a difference in the way clothes fall and it gets rid of the bumps and bulges on the 58 year old body, especially those only visible from the back.

I guess I didn't completely get my point across with my OP/ What I was getting at was...the body shapers are like going back to wearing girdles. Not for me....ever again. Not even panti-hose, and I;m like Lilly316, not even a bra at home. I do remember having to use talcum powder to get that Playtex girdle on, and when it was time to take it off, that too was a struggle because, it being latex, it stuck because I sweated so much. Now they sell such devices as a weight-loss gimmick. it is true......everything old IS new again.

Ellie45 - I wore one that started a little above my waist and went down to my mid thigh. No shoulder straps I think it reduced my waist and hips in about 1/2 inch. I got it at a Macy's I think. I tried on "medium" and "heavy" duty and got the heavy duty. I didn't wear pantyhose as I wore sandals and it really was very comfortable! Pretty easy to get on & off and easy when I went to the ladies room. I would wear it again.
