Which women's magazine is the best for home decorating, articles, recipes, etc.? I know there is one I like, but can't remember the name of it.

Family Circle, Women's Day, Good Houskeeping, Better Homes and Gardens come to mind.

I like 'First for women Magazine' and 'All You' really well. All You is a Walmart publication, only found at Walmart. Maybe at Sams Club too, haven't checked there.

I'm not sure I'd necessarily agree with that assessment. While it may not have much 'meat' of interest to a professional horticulturist, I think the content is very appropriate, appealing and informative for the average gardener. There is always some sort of discussion about new plant introductions or less common plants, good design tips, interesting plant combinations and various gardening techniques, all well illustrated. I quite liked the article on some common myths or fallacies regarding organic gardening practices and brought a dose of realism into what is often a blindly followed practice just because it seems like the environmentally correct, "green" thing to do, especially pointing out the high toxicity of some organic pest controls that many average gardeners are not aware of. Many think that because it is labeled 'organic' it is 'safe', which is not necessarily true.

I have subscribed to various ones over the years, recently many of them have decided to go only digital and no longer print magazines, that is very disappointing to me because I enjoy holding and reading a magazine. I had issues still left on my subscription and they offered to either continue on with the digital copy or move me over to another of the print magazines which is what I decided to do, however I never received a single one so guess I just got screwed out of them. You should check out several and see which ones best hit your interest level and knowledge level, some are just way too techy and some are more focused on stuff that is really not of interest. And since most do have a digital copy online you can take a look at. I have had all of the ones you mentioned at one time and enjoyed them. I have been getting American Patchwork & Quilting this year and I really enjoy it. But this is said with the understanding that I have never bought a quilting magazine before until this one which subscription was a b-day gift from DH so I have never compared it to other quilt magazines. I will keep reading this thread though as people post as I am curious as to which magazines people prefer most. Best to you, Sandra

All of them, LOL! I susbscribe to Old House magazine, because I have an old house, and always learn from articles like, "how to rebuild your windows,'' and to House Beautiful, cuz it's yummy. But I loved just standing at a magazine rack at a store -- try to hit the ones that discount the magazines -- and browsing through the vast array out there. I found I got ideas from everything from Elle Decor to even the ocassional InStyle (the decorating version). If I didn't subsribe to too many, I could pick and choose every month. Did I buy too many? Of course. Did my husband complain? Yes! I was about as addicted to those magazines as I am to Garden Web. But it's all knowledge, all knowledge. Now I don't buy them, but I still leaf through my old ones. It's amazing what you miss in the detail the first 20 times or so you go through those magazines. Is there a support group for addictions like this? Oh, right, it's called GW!

Country Living is a good one and their subscription is low.

All of them have to darned much advertising. Harry always tears out the double-sided ads and when he's finished, the magazine is about an inch thick! And there are still many one-paged ads in them. I'm quitting them all!

I do like Country Living, but hear they're advertising now, too. True, or not?

Each magazine has their own special tastes and selections. I don't think one is better that others. May I suggest looking for used ones at thrift shops, garage sales, from friends and relatives. At 10c to 25c sure alot cheaper that subscriptions. Also deponds on your area. Midwest Living is nice, so is Sunset Magazine (west coast) if it is still avaiable. Also the internet is good. You can also get subscriptions on Kindles.

I usually get them from thrift shops unless I see something I really like. The kids are doing magazine sales. I'd prefer just to donate money, but dh wants me to buy a magazine. I think betterHomes and Gardens is the one that I like.

I don't think Country Living is the same as Country.

And, yes, Country is now advertising. I got a new issue today and it's full of ads.

I stopped getting any magazines, like Patti said too much advertising! An have you noticed how cheap the paper has gotten, it has a bad feel to it.

If you live in the Upper, Mid, or Deep South, Southern Living is a great magazine, though it's not a women's publication.

If I had to pick just one it would BH & G. Some of the magazines offer VERY low subscription reates; they have to have a whole lot of subscribers or companies won't advertise with them. That's where they make the real money. :( Can't stand all those little tear outs!

I download the ones I want to read to my iPad. Skim, delete... Or save images/articles I want to look at in more detail.

I subscribed to All You and it's a fun magazine and the holiday versions have about $100 in coupons and lots of home dec, recipes etc etc...

I'm so sick of magazines that sing the praises of diets and show some star who has never been fat in her life hyping the latest one.......I am even getting sick of Jennifer Hudson....

Check your library to judge which you prefer.

And ... sometimes they have sales of a stack of outdated ones - real cheap!
