On the other side someone asked what to put on their computer desk, and it reminded me of a topic some friends and I did asking what's on ours, because they can get real messy.

So, what is on your computer desk?

Mine.

Lamp

Clock

Note pads

Pen and pencil

The TV remotes

Bag of Halls cough drops

Face moisturizer

Tube of eye shadow (don't ask)

Christmas list buried under the junk

Dust wand

Big spoon to scratch my back (I bet that's a first)

Piece of sugar free candy

All my papers and stuff is on a shelf next to the computer.

Good morning! I don't have a computer desk, so our laptop sits on our dining room table in our sunroom. Not much here except a stack of papers and pens. It's still very dark out this morning and foggy, so the view outside my windows is like something out of a horror flick; dark, leafless trees barely visible against a gray curtain of fog. Eek! No birdies singing yet. Oh, and there's a big cup of coffee here, too :).

-stacks of text and art manuscript for new textbooks
-laptop and separate extra-large screen and keyboard
-assorted pens, pencils, clamps, clips, sticky notes, white-out
-standing file folders with assorted files
-a beautiful glass orb from Murano, Italy
-a petrified clamshell, nice and heavy
-three pairs of glasses
-a nail file
-box of tissues
-a folder of Thanksgiving recipes
-my appointment book

We have 2 other desks with computers in the house; this one is in my dedicated office--and it runs along 2 walls. I'm a college textbook editor. The other desks are neat and tidy with nothing but pens, pencils, and tissues. I'm a compulsive neatnik, but my office is always in a state of controlled chaos! I won't tell you what is on the floor...

Love the big spoon as back-scratcher!

I doubt if you can find it for that amount, and if you do, I think you will soon be disappointed. According to some info found via Google, it is made in China. also...Built with Poplar hardwood solids, engineered wood, cherry veneers, When I think engineered wood in furniture, I think of glued together sawdust. I'd suggest you trying to find something of better quality (wood) used, possibly via Craigslist, if that is available in your area. Sue

Pictures will help, but in the meantime, a few things to consider: - Super-glue (CA glue) will strengthen failing and flaking particle board. Use the thin stuff and drip it in and let it soak into the surrounding area. - Fill loose holes with epoxy. Epoxy putty would work well for this. - Most knock-down (KD) or ready to assemble (RTA) furniture uses connectors of some sort. Having seen the pics, these desks strike me as very light-duty, poor-quality items that shouldn't be in a school. You've got a variety of problems for which there's no one magic bullet. You can certainly patch them together somewhat, but getting "many years" more use out of them is not likely. The material is particleboard with a melamine coating - not "laminate." The "connector bolts" you referred to aren't bolts at all. The are a common type of knockdown fastener. Lee Valley carries them, so you can see a picture of the uninstalled fastener here. The post of each fastener is threaded into a barbed plastic insert that's simply pressed into an undersized hole. These fasteners assemble quickly and avoid having screw heads showing on the tops of the desks, but they aren't very strong. When they are pulled loose the barbed plastic fittings are likely to enlarge the once-undersized holes they're in; you can tap the posts back into their holes, but they'll loosen again fairy easily. To make any real headway, assume that each desk will have to be completely disassembled and every compromised joint will have to be fixed somehow. The posts of the knockdown fittings should be tapped back into their holes or turned to screw them deeper into their plastic anchors. Screws that have stripped must be replaced with longer screws, with coarse threads, for which you'll need to drill pilot holes. In the first picture you need to straighten everything out so that the vertical PB (particleboard) member isn't splayed away from the keyboard tray, and tighten up the loose fasteners where possible. Then you'll have to improve on the original design by adding something to keep the problem from recurring. My inclination would be to add a couple of triangular wood gussets between the desktop and the outer face of the vertical PB member that carries the keyboard tray slide. In the second pic you might remove the desktop and try to get the posts of the knockdown fasteners appropriately seated by tapping them down or (maybe) turning them to thread them more deeply into their embedded plastic anchors. As mentioned above, they'll probably come loose again, and do so more easily the second time. In the long run you may have to drill down through the desktop and drive some screws into the legs. This may be an unappetizing thought but, done right, it could add a lot of strength. It's harder to see what's going on in the third pic, but perhaps the keyboard tray falls in the student's lap because of the splaying shown in the first pic? Adding the gussets I described, to prevent the splaying, should address this problem as well. In the last pic, where a chunk of the PB is gone, there's no way to put Humpty Dumpty back together the way he was originally. See if you can relocate the fastener that blew out to another, undamaged part of the edge.

Hi Emily, didn't expect any activity 2yrs later! I did end up buying Maison Dumond Cambronne. The size actually worked out better than expected, however, the delivery was a nightmare and the quality of the table doesn't live up to the expectation of the price. It is a nice enough table, but not without flaws ...

My PC is in a computer cabinet with lots of cubbies

Post-It notes line the upper shelf with all kinds of reminders and info - I live and die by my Post-Its!
3 paint fandecks - my niece and a friend are both in major paint decision mode at the moment
a flashlight (you never know when you have to get into the tangle of wires in the back of the bottom shelves!)
tape measure AND rolling rule - don't ask
pens, Sharpies (to label CD's), empty printer cartridges that need to be sent in, rubberbands, paper clips

On the inside of the left door there's a Susan Branch calendar.

On the right door are caricatures of the members of a small decorating group I belong to done by one of the members years ago - she drew us as she imagined us from all our online talk and what we revealed as we got to know one another - I really cherish those.

I uae a maple butcher block DR table , we had it in our breakfast room years ago and I didn't want to part with it. I am seated on a chair that my greatx3 grandfather , David Smith , made. Left to right on the desk top:

We have an actual office with a desk and the desk has shelving above it, so we're able to be pretty organized in there. On the desktop itself there is only the monitor, a pencil/pen cup, a framed photo, a red leather box and a small lamp, oh and the mousepad, and in the back corner (under the shelving) I keep my camera camera docking station. The desk has drawers and a shelf underneath which is where we keep paper, post-its, etc. There are also shelves above, we have books, cds there. My hubby displays some of his vintage GI Joes on top of the shelves. The office is actually *his* room and decorated to his tastes.
Funny though, he rarely uses his laptop in there!

Our desk is topped by plate glass, so underneath the glass we have a growing assortment of photos. Above our desk I made a large bulletin board that's the length of the desk. It's fabric covered Homasote, which is cat-claw resistant.

Pesky it is a clean desk is a sign of a sick mind LOL!!
I sit on sofa with my laptop when home. DH computer desk is highly organized, nuff said.

My computer desk is the coffee table. :-) (Nowhere in tiny house to put a regular computer desk.) I work mostly on a lapdesk, though, with my feet on the coffee table. LOL

Golddust, the mousehole is going IN.

A wall in the hall is framed to accommodate a mousehole. LOL, it was a big decision. I need it big enough to get furniture into.

I wish I could tell ya there's so much stuff on it! When I painted the office I moved the desk and put a nice mid-century style lamp on it w/ 2 or 3 picture frames of the kids and a wedding picture for DH. Broke out a leather blotter that I'd had for DH. Nice wood post it holder and wood business card holder. Squared away the printer/ fax on one side and a really cool wooden clock. All for DH.

Now about the only thing I can visually see is the computer screen and top of the lamp.

Oh well! I just grab the lap top and sit on the sofa.

Mine is an antique library table. Unfortunately the most noticable things on it (at least to me) are the scratches and dings from using this table so harshly.
